I just have to have a library card. You might want to ask your local library if they have it. My library system couldn't afford Heritage Quest BEFORE Hurricane Katrina and the Engineers' Flood of 2005. Most branches have yet to reopen, including my own, which had its roof blown off and the contents destroyed, without the added horror of flooding. Currently, some branches are being repaired/rebuilt/replaced as money and/or volunteers permit. As with everything else, we wait patiently. There are no funds to rebuild and restore all the branches and certainly none to subscribe to Heritage Quest. Some day. . . 1. [PAGRE] Spelling names in Greene County, PA, 1850; missing Index 1870
    2. In the 1850 Census, the Greene County enumerator spelled "Wright" as "Right" throughout the county. There were about 5 Wright families who got their name spelled with a W. Perhaps they were picky and spelled it out for the enumerator. The Wrights had their names spelled correctly in 1860. But don't forget, there WERE some who chose to spell their surname without the W. For those who are considering requesting a search of the 1870 Census for anyone in Greene County, Ancestry.com still has not indexed it. Apparently their people overlooked an unknown number of counties across the US as they indexed the various Censuses. Ancestry.com advised me that they were working on these problems in order of the number of complaints received. I fear we will be near the end of their list. 2. Hello My Geni Cuz Gail, & Fellow Fox's I see in the pages of the book DULANY - FURLONG & KINDRED FAMILIES On Page: 103, there mentions a * " LEFE FOX."............................ A quote from Samuel P. Bates in the "History of Greene County, Pennsylvania. (1888) Mr. John Fox is quite a genius in his way and successful in almost every undertaking. His principal business is farming and he owns 475 acres of land in Greene County. I don't see a JOHN FORDYCE, but on page 93 - (just perhaps these Fordyce's may direct you to others) 151.342.4 HAZEL OLA HICKMAN, b. 15 April 1881; d. 14 November 1915; m. Now I have to search and see where I seen the name Phineas ? ? Happy searching my Fox Cuz'zs CARPE DIEM, Lori CHUCKLE: If you sleep like a baby at night, it's a sure sign you don't have one! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ______________________________________________ Does anyone have a female FOX in their line that was probably born around 1845-50, worked as a housekeeper for the Phineas HEADLEE family in Perry Twp. in the 1860s, and had a child out of wedlock during that time? My husband's great grandfather, Lafayette HEADLEE, was supposedly the illegitimate child of Joseph K. HEADLEE and an unknown FOX. Lafayette (aka Lafe) was born 8 Apr 1865. His father Joseph was only 19 at the time and still living with his parents, Phineas and Nancy (KEENER) HEADLEE. The story goes that young Joseph got the family housekeeper pregnant, and that Joseph's parents raised the child. However, I can't find any evidence of this at all...no census listings, no mention in Phineas's will, nothing. I haven't found young Lafe living with any FOX families, either, nor with his father Joseph K. HEADLEE, who later married Mary Jane DULANEY (daughter of Abraham and Susannah LEMLEY DULANEY). The only real "proof" I have of Lafayette's parents' names is his own death certificate, which lists his father as Joseph K. Headlee and his mother simply as FOX. The informant was Lafayette's wife, Mary (KIGER LEMLEY) HEADLEE. I do have Charles Fox's FOX book, which by the way is a fabulous resource, but it hasn't given me any leads on this mystery. Roland Dulaney Furlong's book mentions this family, but I believe his information regarding Lafayette is incorrect. So...if you're still with me :) does anyone have a female FOX in their line that was probably born around 1845-50, worked as a housekeeper for the Phineas HEADLEE family in Perry Twp. in the 1860s, and had a child out of wedlock during that time? Thanks in advance for any help! Gail Headlee ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.
