I've "rescued" an old photograph which is identified as the brother of Grant HART. The photograph was taken at the T. W. Rogers Studio in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, likely sometime in the 1880's. The man in the photograph appears to be in his 30's or 40's at the time the photograph was taken. I'm hoping to locate someone from this HART Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family, or if you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

May 28, 2007 Rows of New Markers, and Untold Sacrifice by Civil War Soldiers By GLENN COLLINS Conrad Joachim, a German immigrant, marched off to war from his home on Greenwich Street in Manhattan on May 13, 1862, enlisting as an assistant surgeon in the 15th New York Heavy Artillery. Charles Joachim, whom historians believe to be his son, had already joined the same unit. Four months later, Conrad was dead; and in another year, so was Charles, at about the age of 20. They were buried in the same grave at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, beneath a marble headstone that is an exquisitely carved open book inscribed with both their names. But the stone slowly sank into the earth as the centuries turned twice, and the cemetery and the city were completed around them. The Joachim familyâs sacrifice may have been forever lost to history if not for a formidable labor of detective work involving hundreds of volunteers and lasting longer than the Civil War itself. Now the Joachims are among more than 1,200 Civil War soldiers with new gravestones at Green-Wood. And today, for the first time, the cemetery is honoring the full known complement of veterans of the countryâs deadliest war. Dozens of veteransâ descendants, some from as far away as Spain, will be joined at 9 a.m. by volunteers and Civil War re-enactors for a public ceremony. There will be a parade, a color guard, a fife and drum corps, crashing salutes from an artillery battery and speeches of welcome and remembrance. Then, descendants and history lovers will read the names of the veterans. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/28/nyregion/28civil.html --------------------------------- You snooze, you lose. Dear List, I wrote to the lookup volunteer and got my letter back as undeliverable. Is there anyone who can check on the following will and estate record for me? Thank you I am looking for information in the will of Margaret MITCHELL TAYLOR listed below. WILL: Will File No. 4163 - Registry Date: Oct 24, 1893 - TAYLOR, Margaret - Executor/Administrator: John TAYLOR - Book 7 Page 107 - Date of Death: Oct 6, 1893 I don't know if there is anything in the estate file, but if there is, could you tell me what is listed for John TAYLOR? ESTATE: Estate File No. 2648 - Registry Date: Jul 20, 1872 - TAYLOR, John Sr. Administrator/Executor: John TAYLOR Jr. - Book 4 Page 390 Thank you very much. Pam Pam
I am looking for information on the family of John TAYLOR and Margaret MITCHELL. He died between the 1870-1880 census and she died about 1893. I believe she may have been related to the Shadrach MITCHELL in the census records. John and Margaret (MITCHELL)TAYLOR lived many years in Washington Twp and she was in Franklin Twp in 1880 living with her daughter who was listed as her sister. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Pam

My Mary was married to Michael. They had a son John who would have been 22 in 1930. Cecelia is a mystery as with all of this family. Thank you and would appreciate any additional info you may find. I will keep this info, you never know how it might fit in. Have a great day! Carol Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Fantastic site! Jocelyn in Ohio I've been working on a project for several months and am pleased to announce it before Memorial Day. I have a few finishing touches left, but the bulk is done.
Lists, I've been working on a project for several months and am pleased to announce it before Memorial Day. I have a few finishing touches left, but the bulk is done. Patricia Wilson submitted over 300 WWII photos for *some* WWII veterans of the Mon Valley area [Roscoe, Stockdale, Allenport, Fayette City, Charleroi, and many other areas are included.] And some for WWII veterans who had worked at the Corning Glass Plant in Charleroi, PA. These include men who were POWs, or KIA with memorial cards. The newspaper clippings were saved by the Roscoe American Legion, and taken from "The Roscoe Ledger," published in Roscoe, PA. [*Note: This does not include *all* men of Mon Valley.] Almost all have newspaper photographs or portrait photos. Volunteers from the Washington Co Rootsweb List helped me with this project. Typing help was given by Carole Clarke. To supplement these clippings, SSDI research was provided by : Kathleen Gregory, Rebecca Pauley, and Stephen Fox. Thank you to each of the volunteers, and to Patricia and the Roscoe American Legion for making this project possible! Also, folks on the Washington County list were patient with my questions about WWII and contributed info for the project. Although I knew the majority of men probably died already, it was kind of sad to actually get the volunteer look-ups from the SSDI. I got to know a little about a hardy selection of men, and learned more about the Allenport Steel Mill and that area of Washington County. If you know anything about the ones not listed in the SSDI, let me know. A few men were from outside of Washington County, and a few were from out of State with relatives in Mon Valley. The Mon Valley Veterans and Corning Glass Veterans are linked from the home page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/ Or, to get to the index for the Mon Valley Vets: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/military/wwII/index.html Or, the index for the Corning Glass Veterans: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~florian/mills_plants/corning-glass-charleroi-pa/index.htm There is an alphabetical index of links. Also, the new Google search box seems to be picking up more of these pages - more than Pico or Freefind searches. The veterans project is not limited to Mon Valley. If you want to submit articles or photos of veterans from your family, submit them to [email protected] and include dates of birth and death, location, your name, how the veteran is related to you, and if you want your email used. [And any other info you want included.] If the service person is still living, please get their permission for me to use their photo, article, and personal information. Happy hunting! GREGOR, wife, age 20; CECELIA GREGOR, dau., age 5/12; MIKE GREGOR, father, age 75, retired; and MARY GREGOR, mother, age 56. Could this be the same family that you are researching? According to the Census, JOHN and his daughter, CECELIA, were both born in Pa. The others were born in Czechoslovakia. The years of immigration for them are: MARY T., 1920; MIKE, 1902, and MARY, 1906.
