Hi, First I want to thank everyone for the continued submissions to my websites. I seem to be adding new photos and info every week... so do keep checking back. I also need to ask that anyone who submits items also needs to add this address [email protected] to your "accepted mail list." If you don't, I get bounced as "spam." That means if I have a question about anything you have sent to me, I cannot get through to you. I have had to sign out of that email and go to this one to re-send the mail. From now on, I won't do that anymore-- it just takes up too much time. If I can't contact someone about a submission, that means your submission might end up with errors if I cannot reach you. (that wouldn't be good :-( In our current Internet world of spam filters and "accepted mail" filters, folks just have to remember to add email addresses to your side if you want replies. Blocked mail affects people trying to make contact from RW Lists, webmasters you deal with, and even just other researchers who might be trying to help you with new finds. If I had to re-stamp and re-address snail mail envelopes several times to reach someone in the real world, I just wouldn't do it... so I'm not going to jump through hoops on the Internet either to reach people. Hope no one thinks I'm being harsh - just being practical. I am frustrated in finding a newspaper article, mostly because there are so many ways to search! So I thought I'd ask for help from others who have Ancestry or access to Washington Co newspapers. Ancestry searches are not great-- for example, I searched for "Frank E. Lane" - nothing... but when I searched for "Jane C. Lane" I found Frank's obit-- as "Frank E. Lane" -- duh to ancestry's search capabilities-ugh. In his obit it just says "Brethren." -- see my explanation below about how hard it is to locate just one church by name. Background: Ten Mile Church of the Brethren (COB) was also locally known as Dunkers, Dunkards, or simply Brethren. It was also called "German Baptists" but after 1908, it should be Church of the Brethren... but newspapers just called all of these churches "Brethren." However, these are NOT "United Brethren" -- a different denomination. Ten Mile COB had a daughter church called Pigeon Creek Dunkard (NOT the Pigeon Creek Baptist -- again, different denomination). If you went past Pigeon Creek Dunkard, out and around the bend and further down, you'd get to Pigeon Creek Baptist. Sometime after 1910 to 1930s I think, Pigeon Creek Dunkard was hit by lightning in a fierce storm. Within years, it was torn down. The church was close enough to Bentleyville that I'd think it would be in the Charleroi Mail. So I tried church hit by lightning, church struck by lightning-- got other churches. Many hits on just "Brethren" but many are for Dunlevy's United Brethren ch. So I thought I'd ask if other people could try different phrases or searches and see if anyone can find an article about this church. Thanking you in advance. Judy PS Originally these 2 churches had members from Wash, Greene & Fayette. -- Washington County PA Websites: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/ http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~florian/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/
