    1. [PAGRE] WILLIAM HOUSTON from HISTORY OF GREENE CO., PA
    2. HISTORY OF GREENE CO., PA. WILLIAM HOUSTON, deceased, who was a farmer and stock-grower by occupation, was born in Ireland in 1791. When twelve years of age came to America and settled in Washington County, Penn., where he learned the shoemaker's trade and followed it as a business until he came to Greene County in 1836, and bought the farm in Aleppo Township which still is in the possession of the family. Here he died in 1854. In 1820 Mr. Houston married Esther, daughter of Captain James Dickey, of Washington County, Penn. Their family consisted of seven children, three of whom are living. They are W.D. HOUSTON, a carpenter and contractor; SAMUEL, a carpenter and farmer; and JOSEPH. The last two mentioned were soldiers of the late war, in Company H, Fifteenth Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. The family are highly respected in the community in which they live. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    3. Hi Randy, I'm sorry if you misunderstood, but I plan to keep the photo because I have Fonner's in my McGary line. It was passed to me from someone cleaning out a relative's house in Ohio. They don't know the names and the relative that did know has died. I'd be willing to share the images-- but I first have to figure out how to scan a photo that is probably 15" tall by 36 or more inches wide. It's inside an old frame that still has a paper backing intact attached on the back of the frame, so I can't remove it--I'd prefer to keep it as original as possible. I thought I'd have a friend take it to a large copier at Kinko's and see if they can make copies through the glass. I have Nancy Gray, married to Solomon Wright, as the daughter of William Gray and Mary "Polly" Jones. William is the son of John Gray and Nancy (you are probably right! I'm confused) ( A different John Gray family then the Gray family that Graysville is named for). This family lived in Morris Twp., which was next to Washington Twp. where Solomon Wright lived. John Gray, husband of Matilda Parkinson and Sarah "Sally" Serrel, had a daughter named Nancy J. who was born in 1850 , too late for Solomon's wife Nancy. Hope this helps. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Cuz. Do you have the other siblings of my NANCY GRAY: Born abt. 1861 in VA. You say is the d/o WILLIAM GRAY & MARY "POLLY JONES" Or of any of the JOHN GRAY'S? My JOHN GRAY I, married to SARAH "SALLY" SERRELL - GRAY (CA. 1815 AFT 1880), (& Matilda Parkinson, whom I didn't know about) Then I have JOHN GRAY II, married to BYTHENIA BANE. On our trips as a child to visit Daddy's family in Avella, PA. along RT. 40 in PA. I would always be so eager to come to that memorial to think of the greatness and strength and bravery of our "Pioneer Woman, along with their Men" just as she holds a baby in her arms and a child hugging her legs. It made my heart leap and sad; as I tried to place my self in what she was enduring as the wagon trains crepe along on an unknown, dangerous rutted dirt path. Just 2 years ago on our motorhome trip once again across this beautiful country from Arizona to New York, visiting family along the way in many States, and now an old lady, tears filled my heart and eyes. Thinking of her daily prayers for her loved ones, saying GOD will provide the strength for each new dawn if we desire. 1. [PAGRE] Another WRIGHT family in Greene County, PA?
    2. I have a Greene County, PA brickwall of many years standing. Hope someone can help. My maternal 2nd great-grandfather was George B WRIGHT (14 Sep 1824-04 Aug 1863), born "in PA." He married Lucinda BOOHER on 24 Apr 1849, apparently in Greene County, where she was born 01 Oct 1827, at Ryerson's Station, Richhill Twp., Greene County, PA (dau of Solomon and Mary COX BOOHER). Dates from a relative's DAR application. Mary COX was the daughter of Christopher COX, Jr., whose own father was a Revolutionary War soldier, buried in the Old Lutheran Cemetery, Marianna, Washington County, PA (Leckley's Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families and U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca. 1775-2006). George and Lucinda lived in Washington Twp., as he announced for sheriff of Greene County from there in Mar 1858 (March 24, 1858, The Waynesburg Messenger newspaper notice). He was elected and served from Oct 28 1858 - Nov 22 1861 (Bates History). He died 04 Aug 1863, leaving his widow and six surviving minor children. George appeared in the 1850 US Census (under the spelling RIGHT) in Washington Twp. At that time, his household consisted of his wife, one child, Mary Ann (1849-1853) and two young ladies, Elsey and Martha WRIGHT (RIGHT), who may have been his sisters, based on their ages. His occupation was farmer. He appeared in the 1860 US Census for Waynesburg, with his wife and 5 surviving children, Elizabeth, Rachel, Emma Jane, Andrew Jackson, and Nancy Ann. His occupation was sheriff, and he also had a William M. WRIGHT, age 27, living in the home with his occupation listed as deputy sheriff. This may have been his brother, as George and Lucinda's second child was named William M. WRIGHT (1850-1851). I have been unable to locate the deputy, William M WRIGHT, in any 1850 PA census when he should have been about 17, nor have I found him in any census after 1860. George and Lucinda had one more child, George B, Jr in 1861, who died in 1953. (There have been several histories of a Verna WRIGHT, born 1859, that claimed George, Sr. and Lucinda as her parents, but she never appeared in any census for the family, either before or after his death.) Lucinda married Stephen WHITE in 1865, and, in addition to the six children named above (excluding Verna), they had 4 children of their own between 1866-1872. Mr. WHITE already had seven children by his first wife, Sarah BRADFORD, but all were adults and out of the home at the time of the 1870 census. The six known surviving WRIGHT children were all accounted for in the 1870 census of the WHITE home. The only older Wright found was Louis Wright, a Revolutionary War pensioner, but his census records (pre-1850) show such a changing number of ages and sexes that he cannot be attached to anyone. He could have been George B's grandfather at best, considering his age. The only other hint as to his parentage comes from George, Jr.'s notation that the "B" stood for his paternal grandmother's maiden name of BRUCE. I have found no such name in Greene or Washington County. Can anyone attach my George B WRIGHT to any WRIGHT family in Greene or Washington County? But, I can not prove that this is true. Also, I believe that William's son Dickson, married a Margaret Glass. And I do see that there are a few marriages between the Hustons and the Glass family. 3. So, who all on these RW Lists are related to FONNERs, through FOX and GRAY (Sarah J. Gray m. George Fox as one marriage she had)? I have a very long Fonner photo (long size that hung over a buffet or couch) of Fonners that was discovered in Ohio, but could contain PA Fonners - late 1800s.
