Yes, Fort Pitt was/is Pittsburgh. The old Fort Pitt Blockhouse still stands. I remember going there as a kid on school field trips. During the French and Indian War of the mid-1700's this was the battle ground, the "point" where the Allegheny and Monongehela rivers meet and form the Ohio River. That piece of ground is called Point State Park. Pittsburgh was the Gateway to the West in those days!
