Since I haven't posted my OWENS family in some time, thought I would in case some new OWENS researchers have joined the search. My OWENS have got to be one of the worst for 'disappearing' - I have found one cousin, who is descended from Enoch OWENS but she's had less luck than I have. I am descended from Catherine OWENS and James R. BROOKHART. Here is my OWENS family - I would really like to find a descendent who can fill in the blanks about some of the children of Henry and Leah - also when and where Henry and Leah died and are buried: After 1846, Henry (b. abt. 1797) and Leah (b. abt. 1803) OWENS moved from Beaver Co., PA to Bloom Twp., Columbiana County, OH, with their children. Henry and his sons worked in the iron furnaces. Henry, Leah, Henry (the son), Julia, Sarah all 'disappear' after the 1860 census in Ohio. Children of Henry and Leah: Samuel OWENS, b. about 1835; d. ? Catherine M. OWENS, b. 20 Mar 1837 PA; d. 13 Apr 1912 OK; m. J. R. BROOKHART Enoch OWENS, b. 22 Nov 1839 Beaver Co., PA; d. 9 Feb 1910, OK; m. Mary EWING Marvin/Mervin OWENS, b. 22 Nov 1840, PA; d. 13 Dec 1917 Hinton, OK;m. Mary Williams Henry OWENS, b. 1841; d. ? (survived the Civil War) Cooper OWENS, b. 1843; d. 5 Jan 1863, Battle of Holly Springs, MS Julia OWENS, b. 1844; d. ? Sarah OWENS, b. 1845; d. ? I have the children of Marvin and Mary (WILLIAMS) OWENS but hit a dead-end as to any descendants there (OK>NE). A slight twist to this -a previous Brookhart researcher (1950's) shows Henry OWENS' wife's name as Katrina/Katherine HUBLER (VON HUBLER) - so......who is Leah? Nickname or second wife? I will probably never find out where Henry and his wife came from but I really would like to learn when they died and where they are buried. Any help greatly appreciated! www.heritagequest.com has the 1870 census index for every OWENS found in that census year. The CD is $19.95. If you order that, you should be able to find where they went. They have done this for every name found in the 1870 census. Then if you wish you can order the actual Census CD from them that will have all their details. In addition, the LDS has available the entire 1880 census on CD - fully indexed. If I remember correctly that sells for $50.00. Since you find them in Oklahoma, it would be my guess that they were just moving west through IL, IN, IA, MO and some of those states. Good luck. meg Julia Conkey wrote: > > Since I haven't posted my OWENS family in some time, thought I would in case some new OWENS researchers have joined the search. > > My OWENS have got to be one of the worst for 'disappearing' - I have found one cousin, who is descended from Enoch OWENS but she's had less luck than I have.
