Just passing this information on. This bible can be found on EBay. 1807 BIBLE, CAIROLI, WALKER, DOVE GENEALOGY Item # 1492703688 Welcome! The bidding is on a large leather Holy Bible from 1807 which contains the Old and New Testaments along with the Apocrypha. The most interesting part of this particular Bible is the family history of Cairoli, Walker, and Dove. There are four pages of family births, deaths and marriages with most from the early to mid 1800's. I couldn't find any places mentioned, though I bought this in Pennsylvania close to Philadelphia. Some examples are: Sarah Maria Walker was born on Tuesday about two O'Clock PM the second day of March Eighteen Hundred and twenty four. John Stevens Cairoli was born on Thursday August 14th in the year of our Lord 1845. Departed this life at Sea on the first day of May 1854 - Captain L. A. Cairoli, aged 41, 1854 Eleanor Dove was born on the ninth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and forty one.
On EBay-UK: 1806 HOUGHTON FAMILY BIBLE w/Engravings BIG!! Item # 1493321754 Description: Here is another one of those huge old leather bound Bibles (I have two on eBay at the moment, so please have a look at the other one too). This one measures 15 x 10 inches and is a little over 3 inches thick. As you can imagine it is quite heavy, but I have a shipping option that allows me to send it to USA for only $22 (airmail). Within UK it would be parcelforce standard at $15.This bible has excellent prints, which are mostly nice and clean (a few have a little foxing). The frontispiece print is badly foxed. The first few pages are loose, including the title page, the frontis., and a few pages that have the family history of the Houghton from the 1760s to the 1820s. Here you have three full pages of names, births and deaths of the Houghtons. The rest is well attached to the binding (must be over 1000 pages). There is some foxing hee and there throughout, but it's not bad overall. The leather of the binding is quite worn, and the front board is detached. Published by J. Tregortha of Burslem, 1806. Interestingly, it has the original spine label in gilt red leather, preserved inside the front cover. This label bears the name Joseph Houghton and is dated 1809.
Genealogical information back to 1630 Christoff Ludolff in Germany. Many many pages of family notes. Thought someone would like to know. : 1798 FAMILY BIBLE +HEATON Family Records 1630 Item # 1493320761 WONDERFUL 18th CENTURY King James Version BIBLE, LEATHER BOUND, CONTAINING COPIOUS GENEALOGICAL DATA from 1630 onwards.Large family Bible, 11 x 9 inches, and over 3 inches thick. It is the King James version Bible and comes with his dedication. Printed by John Burges, printer to the University, Cambridge. Contains both old and new testaments. All pages present and correct. There are no prints in this Bible, but some very interesting genealogical scribbles: the flysheet is full of family tree information starting in 1777. There are also five separate sheets with family details going right back to 1630. Very interestingly, the family had its origins in Hamburg, Germany (the name is Christoff Ludolff), but they must have come to England in the late 1600s or early 1700s, and when we get up towards the 19th Century they have English names like Heaton and Gaunt.Condition: Not bad internally.
The Mischievous boys A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble, and their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons were probably involved. The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining mischievous children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, but asked to see them individually. So the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the afternoon. The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?". The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there with his mouth hanging open, wide-eyed. So the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "WHERE IS GOD!?" The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time, dude. God is missing - and they think WE did it!"
I am just testing to see if the lists are still up and running. If you notice I have the date and time on my e-mail. Might be a good idea don't you think? Renee Waring
I'm sorry to tell you but unless you have sent me an attachment today your system is infected with a virus. Renee Waring
You have sent me a virus this morning. Sorry to try to contact you this way but my message to you was returned. Renee Waring
Please be aware that many individuals that do send out Virus do so intentionally. They will create an imaginary email address and send it out just to create problems and for kicks. The best thing to do is to install a virus scan, many are on the market and do a fantastic job of protecting your system. Sorry to hear that people do this for kicks, beware that the year 2002 is suppose to be really bad for this such activity. Bill Filber Spring Lake, Michigan
This morning I rec'd a virus within an answer [or I suppose it was] to a message that I posted last night on a Querie Board for Pennsylvania re: Alexander Taggart in Pennsylvania c 1780. This virus came from someone named Doyle T. Brittain an it looks like the list from which he got/sent this is PANORTHU-L which I never heard of before this morning. I can't find this list at Rootsweb...[only took cursory look this morning!] The virus was the W32 Badtrans.B@mm virus. This wipes out your hard drive. I do not know this person...so if any on the list know him would you please get in touch with him and tell him that a virus is attached to his messages. I tried to e-mail him back but it bounced back to me...so I don't know what that means. He should know that he is unknowingly sending this out to others~! Thanks, Carol E. Taggart, Windsor, Ontario tagg@sprint.ca
Greetings, PAGENWEB-L@rootsweb.com I thought you would be interested in knowing about this computer Virus... Name: W32/Badtrans@MM Characteristics: UPDATE November 25, 2001 20:30 PST AVERT has raised the Risk Assessment on the Badtrans.b variant to Medium On Watch for corporate users and High for home users. We have received many reports that the virus is being seen and stopped at corporate gateways and mailservers. However, we continue to get reports from the home user segment that they have become infected. This is due to the fact that home users tend to update their DAT files less frequently. As noted below, the virus is detected as W32/Badtrans@MM as the detection technology, which identified the virus first, uses this naming convention for both variants of the Badtrans virus. This new variant of Badtrans drops a password stealing trojan which is detected as PWS-Hooker with the 4173 DATs, or greater, and a variant of PWS-AV with the 4172 DATs. UPDATE November 24, 2001 15:30 PST A new variant of Badtrans has been discovered. This is considered to be variant .b by some companies. VirusScan and other McAfee products with DAT files 4168 are protected from this variant without any updating from that DAT. The variant will be detected as W32/Badtrans@MM when scanning compressed files. This variant is a Medium risk as is the first variant. Your risk of infection is higher if you do not have the 4168 DAT files or above. See the <A href="#Bvariant">.b section below</A> for more details on this variant. Badtrans.a details: This mass mailing worm attempts to send itself using Microsoft Outlook by replying to unread email messages. It also drops a remote access trojan (detected as Backdoor-NK.svr with the 4134 DATs; <I>detected heuristically as New Backdoor prior to the 4134 DAT release</I>). When run, the worm displays a message box entitled, "Install error" which reads, "File data corrupt: probably due to a bad data transmission or bad disk access." A copy is saved into the WINDOWS directory as INETD.EXE and an entry is entered into the WIN.INI file to run INETD.EXE at startup. KERN32.EXE (a backdoor trojan), and HKSDLL.DLL (a keylogger DLL detected as PWS-AV (was DUNpws.av) are written to the WINDOWS SYSTEM directory, and a registry entry is created to load the trojan upon system startup. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\kerne l32=kern32.exe <I>Note: Under WinNT/2K, an additional registry key value is entered instead of a WIN.INI entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\RUN=%WinDir%\INETD.EXE </I> Once running, the trojan attempts to mail the victim's IP Address to the author. Once this information is obtained, the author can connect to the infected system via the Internet and steal personal information such as usernames, and passwords. In addition, the trojan also contains a keylogger program which is capable of capturing other vital information such as credit card and bank account numbers and passwords. The next time Windows is loaded, the worm attempts to email itself by replying to unread messages in Microsoft Outlook folders. The worm will be attached to these messages using one of the following filenames (note that some of these filenames are also associated with other threats, such as <A target=_blank href="http://vil.nai.com/vil/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=98797">W95/MTX.gen@M</A >): Card.pif docs.scr fun.pif hamster.ZIP.scr Humor.TXT.pif images.pif New_Napster_Site.DOC.scr news_doc.scr Me_nude.AVI.pif Pics.ZIP.scr README.TXT.pif s3msong.MP3.pif searchURL.scr SETUP.pif Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif YOU_are_FAT!.TXT.pif The message body may contain the text:Take a look to the attachment.<I>AVERT first received an intended version of this worm (10,623 bytes) on April 11 from a company in New Zealand.</I> <A name=Bvariant> Badtrans.b details: This mass mailing worm attempts to send itself using Microsoft Outlook by replying to unread and read email messages. It also mails itself to email addresses found within files that exist on your system. It drops a keylogging trojan (detected as PWS-Hooker with the 4173 DATs, or greater) into the SYSTEM directory as KDLL.DLL. This trojan logs keystrokes for the purpose of stealing personal information (such as credit card and bank account numbers and passwords). This information is later emailed to the virus author(s). When run, this variant copies itself to the WINDOWS SYSTEM directory as KERNEL32.EXE and creates a registry run key to load itself at startup: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunOnce\kernel32=kernel32.exe This variant replies to incoming email messages and sends itself to email addresses found in "*.asp" and "*.ht*" files. The sender address used by the virus when emailing itself to others may be chosen from the following list: <FONT size=3><XMP>" Anna" <aizzo@home.com> "JUDY" <JUJUB271@AOL.COM> "Rita Tulliani" <powerpuff@videotron.ca> "Tina" <tina0828@yahoo.com> "Kelly Andersen" <Gravity49@aol.com> "Andy" <andy@hweb-media.com> "Linda" <lgonzal@hotmail.com> "Mon S" <spiderroll@hotmail.com> "Joanna" <joanna@mail.utexas.edu> "JESSICA BENAVIDES" <jessica@aol.com> " Administrator" <administrator@border.net> " Admin" <admin@gte.net> "Support" <support@cyberramp.net> "Monika Prado" <monika@telia.com> "Mary L. Adams" <mary@c-com.net> </XMP></FONT> Additionally, the virus prepends the return address used with an "_" (underscore). Thus replying to an infected message will fail to reach the intended recipient. The message subject is typically: "Re:" The message attachment name will be one of the following: <!-- HIDE ME is created from three sections. Sounds like you have been barred as well. Do a test. Meantime, here is another list for PA people that have been barred from there. This group is very nice. The list manager is Nate Zipfal, a retired Marine and a friend of mine. When he found out about me being barred from the PENNSYLVANIA List he personally invited me to join his list. He has his hands in lots of genealogical pots and is a valuable friend, though one with very little time. PAGENWEB-L@rootsweb.com Renee
Hi folks. I have just received another virus from someone that I know, and I know that someone would not have sent me this on purpose. All you have to do is take out the _ that can be found in the address and it will be ok to notify them that they have a virus problem. It will then be deliverable. Unsubscribing from the lists is not the answer either because it is not coming from the list but from saved messages in other's systems. You can however change your email address with your server (aol allows seven address's) and block the old one so it cannot receive mail. That way if the virus sends itself to old messages that someone is saving in their cabinet it will be blocked from coming into your system. The way this thing is working is apparently it does not do a lot of harm (what is a lot?) but will keep sending itself out till the person is notified that there is a problem and they clean up their system. Lets not be mean about this, lets just take care of it. Can't through the baby out with the dishwater you know. Sincerely, Renee Waring
Hi everyone. Today, I have received 6 virus's in my mail box. They all had an attachment but nothing in the letter portion of the E-mail. I was smart enough not to open them, but replied to the address's of the sender's. Everyone came back that there was no such address. Then I completely delete it out of my system. This is something new, before you could at least warn the sender that they had a problem. I have no idea who's system is sending these out. Just thought I would warn everyone. Sorry if this breaks protocal.
Sorry to break the rules but I think this is soemthing that all should be aware of. I have been doing genealogy work on several families in my husband and my family both. Today I recieved five diffrent emails with Re: then surnames that I had been researching, all with no message but a huge attachement I was smart enough not to open them but think that you should be aware of this. I tried to email all of them back but they all came back. SO IF YOU GET AN EMAIL ON SURNAMES THAT HAS NO MESSAGE ON EMAIL JUST AN ATTACHEMENT EITHER EMAIL THE PERSON IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE OR DELETE THE MESSAGE BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL. That is last thing. Sorry to break rules but this kinda pertained to genealogy since it is someone using surnames etc to spread viruses-I have talked to many many people all getting same thing from same addresses... Heather PS EMAIL ME PERSONNALY IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS SO NOONE GETS IN ANYMORE TROUBLE. oklahomamom@olp.net or heather74127@yahoo.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <Reneelwaring@aol.com> To: <PAGENWEB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2001 9:16 PM Subject: PLEASE, PLEASE WATCH FOR VIRUS'S!!! > Hi everyone. > > Today, I have received 6 virus's in my mail box. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------9D40BBB2F75F759C1C2547A8 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Someone kindly let me know that I'd omitted the county I am looking for this information in! lol It is Luzerne. Just a side note - I have called the parrish office of Sts. Peter and Paul and was not able to get any information. I did call all the Szalkowski's in the phone book and was able to find one person who told me that her Szalkowski's are buried at the top of the hill of the cemetery, but I looked all over there and didn't find any. Perhaps I need new glasses. Thanks everyone for your help. I have reason to believe that Michael died some time between 1910 and 1912 as STanley was born in 1904 and remembered having to go door to door to relatives to tell of his father's death at the approximate age of 7. Their names were Michael Szalkowski who was 18 on the 1900 census and his wife, Nellie Orzechowski. They had a daughter, Genevieve, who does not appear on the 1920 census, and two sons, Stanley and Walter. On the 1920 census, Nellie is remarried to Alex Vankowsky (spelling may vary) with additional biological children: Stephen, Josephine and Victoria. Walter and STanley are listed as step children, retaining their name as Szalkowski (which has ALSO been spelled various ways). STanley's name was later changed to Schall, but I don't know when. They lived on Bank Street in Plains township and are probably buried in the Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery. I have been their twice but have been unable to find their stones. Michael and Genevieve MAY have died during the flu epidemic between 1910 and 1920, but I'm not sure. Any help or insight is appreciated. Ronalee Schall --------------9D40BBB2F75F759C1C2547A8--
Ronalee, You do not say what County you are looking for them in. If you do not find Tombstones, I would suggest that you contact the record keeper for the cemetery. If you do not know who that is, then contact a funeral home in the area and ask them. They will be able to give you the info. From there you can write and obtain copies of their death certs. They are $3.00 each. Just be sure that you include your relationship, and that you are working on your family tree. Good luck. meg Ronalee Schall wrote: > I am looking for the marriage, and death dates of two people who lived > in Plains township in the early to mid 1900's.
