Hi Cheryl, Looking on Mapquest, I found 2 Thompson, PA One is in Susquehanna Co. and the other is in Beaver Co. The best guess would be the one in Susquehanna Co. It is situated one county north of Lackawanna. Perhaps the county boundries have changed? Hope this helps. Sue
Can anyone tell me the location of the town of Thompson? I have a 1924 obit that gives this town. I'm not sure if it is in Lackawanna Co. Reading the obit, it would seem that the town was/is near Carbondale in Lackawanna Co. Thanks for any help. Cheryl
Kim, Heritage Quest will sell you a CD of any surname you chose for the 1870 Census. In your case, it would be KIDD. For the entire US for 1870 - they are $19.95 for each surname. If you join for $29.95, you pay $14.95. They are a great company and very reliable. I buy all my census CD's from them - the real thing. You buy those just like you would if you were looking at the film at the National Archives or such. The numbers for each CD match those films. The 1880 Census has one Robert Kidd in PA. He is located in Allegheny Co, with his parents and is 16 years old. The information is: Robert Kidd - head - 64 yrs - b. Ireland E. J. Kidd - wife - 50 yrs - b. Ireland Maggie Kidd - dau - 19 yrs, b. PA Robert Kidd - son - 16 yrs, b. PA James Kidd - son - 14 yrs, b. PA Harry Kidd - son - 12 yrs, b. PA George Kidd - son - 7 yrs b. PA I would certainly investigate this family. If Robert Sr. and E. J. both lived past 1885, there is a possibility of finding a death record for them in Pittsburgh at the courthouse. In addition, I would look for an obit for both of them and see what they say. This family lived in what was Allegheny City - now part of Pittsburgh. Good luck. meg LiamTurner@aol.com wrote: > Still looking for my great grandfather, Robert Edward KIDD, born somewhere in > Pennsylvania, April 1864. I cannot find him on the 1871 so far. Still looking for my great grandfather, Robert Edward KIDD, born somewhere in Pennsylvania, April 1864. I cannot find him on the 1871 so far. He moved to Lincolnshire, England and became a fisherman, so I do find him there in 1895, when he married. Pretty sure he became a fisherman apprentice in 1882 in England. Father's name is William. I have found one possible family with a father named ROBERT (William could have been a middle name, I guess). Anyone with church records and time, please give a look. Thank you. Kim
My gggrandfather was George R Smith, married to Sarah Emenheiser. According to Census data, George R Smith was born in Ohio but his father was born in Pennslyvania. I do not know George's father's name, however, thought I would try and find someone who may know. I would love to correspond with someone who has any information regarding a Smith who was born in Pennslyvania, but moved to Ohio before 1822, when George as born. Thanks for reading my e-mail. Yes, Fort Pitt was/is Pittsburgh. The old Fort Pitt Blockhouse still stands. I remember going there as a kid on school field trips. During the French and Indian War of the mid-1700's this was the battle ground, the "point" where the Allegheny and Monongehela rivers meet and form the Ohio River. That piece of ground is called Point State Park. Pittsburgh was the Gateway to the West in those days! More information can be found at the museum's web site: http://www.fortpittmuseum.com/History.html Hope this helps! I was born and raised north of Pittsburgh, and still have alot of family members there. I suppose it will always be home to me. Sue Reno, Nevada

Folks, For those of you who are not aware, you can purchase 1790 - 1930 actual census records - (not transcriptions) on CD and have them in your own home. If you join Heritage Quest - I think it is $29.95, you can buy the Census on CD for $14.95 each. It would be like looking at a roll of film at the National Archives or anywhere else. They have a catalog of the films/CDs and you order accordingly. I have been buying from them for several years now, and would not do it any other way. While the CDs are NOT indexed, I have not minded that a bit. I have found more family only because I was looking line by line! However, Some Census years are indexed - such as Ancestry is working on 1920. Also, for 1870, Heritage Quest will prepare a CD for you by surname. It includes very person by that surname for 1870 and covers the entire United States. For those of you, who are stuck, and do not have access to information, this is a great way to keep going. And if you should choose to not join Heritage Quest, you can still buy the CDs for $19.95 each. While I appreciate the responses I've been receiving telling me my e-mail is working, please stop! <great big grin> I was NOT asking if my e-mail was working; I was responding to the request of the listmaster when she asked us to respond. Still it's very nice to know there are so many helpful people on this list. Happy Thanksgiving to each of you; I'm thankful you are all out there.
