    3. Hi, Would appreciate any help in acquiring the information from an obituary on John E. GATZ b. 08 May 1904 died 29 May 1988 Montoursville, Lycoming Co. PA. I'm trying to connect him to his mother Edna Graden GATZ (?). She remarried sometime around 1907 her husband Joseph GATZ having died in 1904, Syracuse, NY. She then moved to Bitumen, PA in 1907 presumably having remarried. Many thanks. Joan in Central New York --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. WALTON Catholic Lines
    2. I am working on the WALTON Catholic line from England-Ireland to PA and NY but not have much success finding them or finding the connection from the WALTON Catholic line to the WALTON non-Catholic lines. Seems most of the WALTON lines I am researching first settled in NEPA and settled in Hawley and surrounding areas in Wayne Co; others moved to the Scranton, Lackawanna Co areas. The Wayne County group moved with the canal to Roundout/Kingston area of New York where some moved to NY City and others to upstate New York. Most of the Scranton group stayed there and raised their families. Looking for any connections, information. Please contact me at wsullivw@aol.com Thanks and regards, Walton J. SULLIVAN

    1. Brigance Surname
    2. I am looking for the Brigance surname in PA. According to the 1850 census on a few of the Brigance family members, some were born in PA between 1740 and 1775. I have been to the Cumberland County Historical Society (believed to be the county where they lived) but found nothing. Went to the Pa. National Archives in Harrisburg and found no Land Records (didn't have time to look up other records). Have also been to the Genealogical Society of Pa. in Philly and found nothing on the Family Tree Maker CD's that they have for Pa. I plan to return to the Genealogical Society soon to do more research. Have also done searches, etc. on the Pa. site for USGenWeb and others, with no luck. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks! Teri Tighe Southern New Jersey

    1. Surname - Seavers
    2. Marnell Smith
    3. I am trying to find descendants and information on the family of Christopher L. Seavers. He immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1832 with his parents and came into the Port of Pennsylvania. I would like to know if he came with siblings or if they had more children when they arrived. He was born in Hanover, Germany on January 10, 1815. His family located in Chester County. In 1835 he converted to the Christian religion and became a life-long member of the M.E. Church. On October 23, 1837, He married Deborah Lemar who was born in Queen Anne County, Maryland on April 20th, 1815. He had 7 children. In 1853 he moved to Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois with his wife and three daughters. The girls were Caroline (Carrie), Isabella and Marilla. My grandfather George Arista was born there in 1859. In 1860, they moved to Milan, Sullivan County, MO. At that time I believe Caroline returned to PA where she married Henry Rankin and had a daughter, Lizzie Rankin. Sometime between the time she was born and two years, they moved to Keokuk, Iowa and they had Herman there. Isabella married William Scott and had three children in MO. She died at the age of 26. Marilla died at the age of 17 and is buried in Pleasantville Cemetery in Mystic, MO in the plot with Christopher and Deborah. Christopher died in Keokuk on July 3rd, 1904 at Caroline's home in Keokuk, Iowa. Deborah died on July 22nd, 1891. My grandfather George married Melissa Ella Stahl in Green City, Mo and the moved west, spending time in Nebraska, where my father was born, Christopher Lemar Seavers. They had 10 children. Some born in Missouri, Nebraska and the remaining in Calif. For a time, they moved back to Oklahoma in the Enid area. My father was a teenager. I have a picture of a cousin named Isaac Seavers (I also had an uncle named that). I do not know if he was my great-grandfather's cousin or my grandfather's cousin. It was taken around 1927 and he was elderly. His daughter, Minnie Stowe, was in the picture also. My search now is centered on Siblings of Christopher L. and George Arista. There are two brothers and one sister that I have not been able to find as yet. I think they may have stayed in PA because I'm sure they were older. Christopher and Deborah were 45 when they moved to Milan and my grandfather was a year old. In the 1880 census, George was the only one living with them in Milan. I hope this is not too lengthy but I mention several names in case someone is familiar with them. My name is Joyce (Joy) Ella (Seavers) Smith I was born on June 25, 1930, I was my father's only child. I will have been married to Marnell Smith (a Kentuckian) for 48 years on October 3rd. We have four children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I hope someone can help me research the missing members of my Seavers family.

    1. Alms House Records with Ships Names 1855-1858 (New York
    2. Lorine McGinnis Schulze
    3. Hello everyone, New York City was a very busy port for ships. One of the difficult things about searching for ancestors arriving there is that the ships passenger lists aren't indexed from 1847 to 1896. However I've been working on a project to transcribe the Alms House Admission Foreigners & Nativity Records ( New York City, NY) Bond Registers 1855-1858. These records contain the names of individuals who were impoverished, and who sought help at the Almshouse. The transcribed records contain the place of birth of each individual as well as the name of the ship they sailed on to reach N. America. The year of arrival is also noted, and the ports of departure and arrival. This is a wonderful resource for the unindexed NY years! Dating back to the colonial era, New York City assumed responsibility for its citizens who were destitute, sick, homeless, or otherwise unable to care for themselves. The city maintained an almshouse, various hospitals, and a workhouse on Blackwell's Island (now called Roosevelt Island) for the poor. The information fields are: Date of Admission, Name, Age, Nativity, Time of Arrival, Port Sailed From, Port Arrived At, Ship, Captain, Married or Single, Who Can Identify Them, How Many Times on The Island, Remarks The index to the records can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/ny_alms1855.htm Here is an example of the kinds of information found in the Almshouse records: In Mar 1856 John Coleman, age 15, single, from Ireland applied for relief. He told the clerk of the Almshouse that sailed from Liverpool on the Ship Ontario, arriving on 19 Dec. 1855 in New York. He didn't know the Captain's name, and had no one to vouch for him from New York City. It was his first time 'on the island" (meaning applying for relief). He was discharged in April 1856 Sometimes comments were added in the column for death or discharge dates. For example, poor Bridget Connor applied for relief on Apr 30, 1855. Bridget, 26, a spinster from Ireland told the clerk she sailed "about 20 months ago" from Tralee to Quebec. Bridget gave her ship name as Payoo or Payne, Captain O'Donohan commanding. This was her third time on the island, and the clerk recorded "Stupid" beside her discharge date of 16 Jan. '57 (If you find an ancestor with such a notation, or "insane" , don't be alarmed - sometimes not knowing how to add was enough to be labelled as "stupid"!) The places of origin and of arrival are not all New York. Ports of arrival include Quebec, Boston, NY, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and more. Places of origin include Ireland, Gilbraltar, Germany, England, Canada, Switzerland, Holland and more Start your search of these free records at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/ny_alms1855.htm Surnames F, M, Mc, S and W were added today. A big thank you goes to volunteer Nancy Profit for her hard work in transcribing those surnames. This set of records adds to the existing records I have already transcribed and put online for the NYC Almshouse for 1819-1827 (with 1828 to 1840 to follow) starting at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/ny_alms1819.shtml I hope you enjoy this set of records; it's great fun reading and transcribing these wonderful entries! **Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might be interested** Lorine http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_newyork.sh tml NARA & FHC film numbers for NY passenger lists after 1820 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_ny.shtml Passenger Lists to New York all years http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/searchnyships.shtml Search Engine for online Internet Passenger Lists to NY
