    3. For what it is worth....to those of you who have Axelheath/Exolheath PAGE of Goochland Co., VA as your ancestor. I was going through some of the brochures that we've collected in our trips across this great country and found the following in a booklet about Pella, Iowa....a community founded by Dutch people in the mid-1800's. This may not have any bearing on our Axelheath/Exolheath's name, but for what it might be worth I'm sending it on. Some time ago, I reported that Axel was reported as being "Nordic"....from the book "First Names First" by Leslie Alan Dunkling, Universe Books, New York. The following is not from this book....it is from the booklet mentioned in the previous paragraph. Following are the first two paragraphs in an article in it. "Dress From the 'Land of Axel'" "One of the most unusual Dutch costumes seen during our Tulip Time Festival is that of the 'Land of Axel'. Former resident Emily Dieleman is the owner of one of the oldest and most authentic in the sea of costumes seen during the festival. Her costume was given to her by a relative in The Netherlands and dates from over a century ago. The 'Land of Axel' as it was known is in southern Zeeland. It was once an island village. The area was settled by French Huguenot refugees who were farmers and craftsmen as well as groups from neighboring villages of Walchem and Zuid-Beveland who brought Protestantism to a predominately Catholic region." NOTE by DCR: This is not to even intimate that our Axelheath/Exolheath PAGE was from this area, but I thought the above was interesting and worth sharing. Have any of the rest of you seen any references to Axel or Axelheath as a first name....the origin or whatever???? Dolores

    3. I think I've mentioned before on the maillist that there were many of that name from Sweden who settled in the midwest. e.g. My aunt Henrietta md Ray Bloomquist, whose father was Raymond Axel Blomquist. However clerks managed to spell those names as Axcel, Eccsel, etc. One of his earlier relatives was Axel Leonard Blomquist born Lsarueda, Sweden. At 11:49 AM 06/23/2000 -0700, Dolores C.
