Reuben Harrison Page, b. 20 Jun 1823, Union Co., PA, m. Mary Kuhn, b. 31 May 1833, Boalsburg, Centre Co., PA, 4 Oct 1849 in Patton Twp, PA. He d. 23 Apr 1903, Linden Hall, Centre, PA. Reuben mustered 18 Aug 1862 in Co. G 148th PA Vol. Inf and was assigned to the ambulance Corps on 28 Dec 1862. The 148th was at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Po River and Spottsylvania, as well as Appomattox at the surrender of Lee. He was discharged with his Company 7 Jun 1865. It runs out Reuben is my 'brick wall' as I have no idea who his parents might be or where they were from. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please send a post to this list about at least one of your direct ancestors who fought in a war. Your listowner,
I have ancestors who have fought in several wars since the 1300s in Britain, Europe, and America to include the Rev. War, War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam (me), Iraq, and Afghanistan. Here is one of the earliest in America who was K.I.A. during King Phillip's War, which most of you know nothing: King Philip's War, sometimes called Metacom's War or Metacom's Rebellion, was an armed conflict between Native American inhabitants of present-day southern New England and English colonists and their Native American allies from 16751676. The war is named after the main leader of the Native American side, Metacomet, Metacom, or Pometacom, known to the English as "King Philip." It continued in northern New England (primarily on the Maine frontier) even after King Philip was killed, until a treaty was signed at Casco Bay in April 1678. According to a combined estimate of loss of life in Schultz and Tougias' King Philip's War, The History and Legacy of America's Forgotten Conflict (based on sources from the Department of Defense, the Bureau of Census, and the work of Colonial historian Francis Jennings), 800 out of 52,000 English colonists (1.5%) and 3,000 out of 20,000 natives (15%) lost their lives due to the war. Proportionately, it was one of the bloodiest and most costly wars in the history of North America. More than half of New England's ninety towns were assaulted by Native American warriors. Capt. Isaac Johnson, b. 11 Feb 1615/1616 in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire, Eng. d. 19 Dec 1675, Four Corners, Sakonnet River, RI, buried Cocumcussoc Cem., Wickford, Washington Co., RI Eldest son of Capt. John Johnson, came to America with his father in 1630. Was made Freeman March 4, 1635. He was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company-1645 and was chosen its Captain and leader in 1667. He was Capt. of the Roxbury Co. in Narragansett Expedition, and was K.I.A. at the head of his company in the famous Fort Fight on 19 Dec. 1675, near Four Corners, Sakonnet River, R.I. known as "The Great Swamp Fight". He m. Jan. 20, 1636/7 at Roxbury, MA, Elizabeth Porter, bapt. 10 Feb 1610/1611 in Ware, Hertfordshire, Eng., d. Aug. 13, 1683. They had six children: Elizabeth b. Dec. 24, 1637; John b. 3 Nov. 1639,d. Dec. 16,1661 (Dec. 18th in Roxbury-town records); Mary b. Apr. 10,1642; Isaac b. Nov. 7,1643, bapt. Jan. 1, 1644 Joseph b. Nov. 9, 1645, d. Dec. 12, 1645, Roxbury, Mass.; and, Nathaniel b. May 1, 1647. I had an even earlier death of relatives: Thomas & Elizabeth (Felkin) Page, probably in a raid by Native Americans in Saco, in the Provence of Maine on 21 Oct 1645. GWP Col., US Army (Ret.)
