Thanks, Ron. While I have no name for his father, in census's, Reuben staes his father was born in Pennsylvania. So, while the Reuben part is great to see, Georgia isn't quite PA. I wish it was that easy . . . . . May all of your searches be backwards.
I'd like to ask my 3rd ggrandfather, MELCHESELDIC D PAGE, (born abt 1806 in NC, died 1867 Taylor County, Florida) how is an "agriculturist" (his response to the occupation question on the 1850 census) different from a farmer? LOL! Think he was just showing off his snazzy vocabulary.
I would invite Susanna Gilman Page. 1. Who were her Gilman grandparents? 2. Where in New Hampshire did they live ? 3. What was your mother's maiden name? 4. Tell me more about your brothers David and John Gilman.
David, I have Page family named John Reuben Page. It seems to be a Page family name. I live in Georgia. All my Page family members that I have been able to find have lived in Georgia. Dear List: I enjoyed reading your replies but I would want nearer ancestors: My grandmother Lamora Page and my grandmother Missouri Frances Fisher. I would love for them to retell stories so that I could write them down. I would love for them to identify people in their pictures that no one alive now can identify. My grandmother Page came to Brown county, Texas from her birthplace of Dallas county, Texas when she was a young girl of about 15 to 17 (ca. 1890) and I would love for her to tell about that. My other grandmother came to Texas as a young bride from Tennessee around the same time. I have been able to piece together almost nothing that makes them real to my children and grandchildren during these times. I loved both of them and they loved me so I would love to have them back, even if it was for just a day. LaFon (Stone) Commander

...a Happy Thanksgiving to all American cousins! I am in England and if hosting a special meal I would invite my troublesome ancestor Joshua Page of Rotherhithe - as he would now be about 226 years old I'd probably send a taxi over to Rotherhithe to pick him up. He has a lot of questions to answer - for instance is he aware of another Joshua Page in Rotherhithe who appears to have been born the same year (1780) but has a father with different name.My Joshua has a father called John Page, but the other Joshua has a father called Thomas Page. I am wondering whether this is one and the same person and some transcriber has mixed up the abbreviations Jho and Tho, and if so which is the correct name of Joshua? Also, I know Joshua is a sailmaker, but was he working for a small private company, or was he employed in the naval dockyard? Maybe he went to sea and was a sailmaker on a sailing ship .... I would love to know, as Joshua has been my brick wall for over 10 year... he'll be very welcome at that special meal, but he needs to spill the beans.... Those of us in the US will soon be celebrating Thanksgiving. Listmembers, if you could have one of your ancestors with this surname join you for Thanksgiving Dinner, which ancestor would you invite? What questions would you ask him/her? If you are not in the US, which ancestor would you like to have join you for any special dinner, and what questions would you ask? Please send a post to this list telling us about this ancestor - and please remember to include dates and locations. Carol C-H <[email protected]> http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/

Does any have further info on the ancestry of this James Madison PAGE or know how to contact the reviewer, "jiblais" (Palm Desert, CA United States) ? James Madison Page was 2d Lieutenant Company A, Sixth Michigan Cavalry during the American Civil War and spent time in several Southern prisons, including Andersonville Prison. Given the number of reports by fellow prisoners of their treatment while incarcerated, Mr. Page felt compelled to provide a truthful and fair report on his prison experiences. In particular, he desired to set the record straight about Major Wirz, who had subordinate charge of the prisoners of war (in 1864) and was, in Mr. Page's opinion, the recipient of "exaggerated and often unjust reports of cruelty and inhumanity to the Union prisoners. He in collaboration with M.J. Haley) were the authors of a book, "<http://www.amazon.co.uk/True-Story-Andersonville-Prison-Defense/dp/1582181462/sr=1-3/qid=1162655553/ref=sr_1_3/202-0677081-0815862?ie=UTF8&s=books>The True Story of Andersonville Prison: A Defense of Major Henry Wirz" The True Story of Andersonville Prison, April 11, 2001 Reviewer: <http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A15XIMBMG85Q59/ref=cm_cr_auth/104-6809297-5191113>"jiblais" (Palm Desert, CA United States) - "James Madison Page was my husband's great grandfather and we own a copy of the original edition. Mr. Page went on to be a Montana pioneer and surveyor. The book was very controversial when it was published, but to his dying day Mr. page stood by what he had written. It is quite a contrast to the generally accepted view of Andersonville Prison. Possibly, the prison conditions were not uniform at all times or in all places of the prison. The rather antiquated, but clear, prose alone is reason to read the book and get a taste of the past." George W. Page
To the Redheaded Wonder: Since I had Page relatives in Yell County, Arkansas (which turned out to be no kin this Harrison L Page) I can provide you benefit of many, many days of digging, so here goes: Your Harrison L Page is listed several ways, specifically Lemuel Harrison Page born 1847 in Union County, South Carolina. Lemuel Harrison Page father was Robert Page, his mother's name was Jemima. In 1860 this Robert Page family along with Lemuel showed up in Forsyth County, Georgia. If you know Yell County history I believe this to be the connection between the Martin wagon train from Georgia to Arkansas. Anyway in 1870 Robert Page is censused in Yell County along with Lemuel Page now 22 who is working on a farm for some of his Page kin. If you review the census you'll see the two farms are census next to one another. In the 1880 Yell County census Lemuel H. Page using the name Harrison and shown as "cousin" still working on one of hsi relative's farm. His father Robert Page is still alive @ 62. In 1900 census of Yell Co. Lemuel H. Page is listed along with his first wife and a son, James H.(killed in WWI I have been told). In 1910 census of Yell Co. Lemuel H. Page is shown as Harrison L. Page along with an incorrect birth date. In 1920 census of Yell Co. Lemuel Harrison Page is shown as Garrison L. Page, where as if you review the actual sheet it says Harrison L. Page. Lemuel Harrison Page's second wife was Verdia Meyers. They had seven children together: Gradola, William Edward, Ernest Lee, Verid Viola, Mary Edna, Bonnie Beryl and Lula Grace. Eva, Do you know the City, County, State or even the Country for your Harrison L. Page and his children. Do you know any date of births or date or deaths for these people. Even an "about" date sometimes can be most helpful. Regards, Stephen R. I don't have any info on Harrison Page, however I do have a brick wall with a similar name. I have a Reuben Harrison Page, b. abt. 1824 in Union Co., PA. He died 23 Apr 1903 in Linden Hall, Centre Co., PA. He married Mary Kuhn, b. 31 May 1833 in Boalsburg, Centre Co., PA on 4 Oct 1849 in Patton Township, PA. Reuben enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War at the age of 39, which made him considerably older than most enlistees. He had a brother, George Page who was b. in Walker Township, Juanita Co., PA. He also was in the Civil War. I would like to find the date of Reuben's birth, (it is not on his enlistment papers, nor any of the extensive pension papers he filed.) and I would very much like to find his/their parents. I found a very, very tentative fact saying they MIGHT be Adam Page and Elizabeth ? . The use of Harrison as his middle name has me to somewhat believe it might be a family surname, but . . . . . . Any help would be extremely appreciated. Many thanks in advance. David C. Wolff
