Thanks Robert for the quick reply I know Barbara Page Watson (tex) and have exchanged emails with Marshall Page in the past and I hope they will find my idea interesting. I was also hoping to find people that might know more about Nathaniel Page of Amelia and Charlotte Counties VA from the mid to late 1700's Thanks ________________________________ From: Robert Page [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 2:55 PM To: Page, John D. Hi all, I am a long time lurker first time poster. I know that there are a few list members that belong to this Page family line and others that are familiar with the line. I descend from John Page died 1803 in Laurens County South Carolina thru his son John Page Jr. I may have found a possible lead (kind of a long shot) so I thought I would share it here and see if anyone has already done any research along these lines. I also find that I never have enough time for genealogy research anymore and while I would love to be the one to break down this Brick Wall, I am more interested in getting it broken, than who does it. So maybe by posting my idea here others can help figure out if it is just coincidence or if there is a connection. I will attempt to describe my possible lead below. In reference to John Page died 1803 in Laurens County South Carolina with the following children Elizabeth, William, Hanna, John, Frances, James, and Jane. The earliest document I have found referencing John Page Sr. is 1794 a deed of sale for some livestock and other farm equipment in Laurens SC. We know from John Page Sr.'s will (1804) that he had a neighbor and probable friend of the family named Pleasant Sneed (Snead). Pleasant Snead also signed John Page Sr.'s Estate estimate (1804) and that John Sr. and John Jr. witnessed Pleasant Snead's land purchase (1801). I have also found that Pleasant Snead married Elizabeth A Betsy Foster (5 NOV 1794, Charlotte Co, Virginia). We are also pretty sure that William Page, son of our John, married Nancy Ann Foster. Both Elizabeth A Betsy Foster and Nancy Ann Foster were daughters of John Foster of Union County, SC. Here is were things might get interesting, there are many Foster researchers that have John Foster married to Hannah Page daughter of Nathaniel Page of Amelia and Charlotte Counties VA. It looks like both Nathaniel Page and family and John Foster and family left Charlotte Co, VA and went to Union Co, SC in the late 1790's. This led me to wonder if our John Page Sr. died 1803 in Laurens Co, SC could be related to Nathaniel Page of Amelia and Charlotte Counties VA. Does anyone have any information on this Nathaniel Page of Amelia and Charlotte Counties VA from the mid to late 1700's? There may be some that would dismiss this idea or any other lead that might indicate that "John Page d. 1803 in Laurens County SC" came to SC after the Revolutionary War since DAR has him listed as a Revolutionary Patriot and serving in the 5th South Carolina Regiment. I hope that everyone will keep an open mind to the possibility that DAR could be mistaken. DAR has an impeccable reputation and usually requires well documented evidence before listing a Revolutionary Patriot. I have been to the DAR Archives and seen the original application hoping to find clues. I was surprised to find a well documented lineage to our John Page and documentation to show that there was a John Page in the 5th South Carolina Regiment but no evidence that really linked the two. I am not saying that it is not true, but I am saying that I hope everyone will keep an open mind to other possibilities. Regards, John D. Page
Hi George: I would very much appreciate any information about descendants of Thomas Page of Saco, ME, you mentioned or others that might connect up with our mystery woman Mary N. Page, ancestor of my wife, b. 16 Feb 1819 in Bristol, ME (presumably) who m. Jonathan Eastman Morrison 1843 of Sanbornton Bridge, NH, and d. 26 Sep 1895 Onawa, IA. Our info comes from census plus family accounts in history of Sanbornton NH repeated in that of Monona Co. IA. But we recently researched in the Bristol area to no avail. It seems there were close family connections in that area with Boston area, in fact, mention is made that Jonathan Morrison married while in Boston. Thanks for any clues. Bristol is just up the coast from Saco. Early on here was one Page in the area, Wm. Page in S. Bristol (b. c.1750) & John (b. c.1781) & William II, on down several generations to an Otis in California with whom I've had contact. We have had much success with discovering many Colonial ancestors but this Page we can't read! Bill (& Lee Morrison) Longman Springfield, MO members Ozarks Genealogical Society --- "George W. This may be a long shot, but it is always worth a shot. I have a Baptis or John PAGE born Nov. 1826 in Canada and died in 1903 in NY. He married Mary Jane BUTLER from Steuben Co., NY in 1856. Hello Page Researchers, I am in need of a "look up". I guess in my frugal nature, I'm trying to save myself 40-70 U.S. dollars for a book and postage for just one look up. The following is the person, place, book etc. etc. Person: Thomas Page Year: 1738 Place: America Source: The Complete Book of Emigrants in Bondage, 1614-1775. Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1988. pp. 462-920 by PETER WILSON COLDHAM Page: 600 (Thomas' records should be located on this page) Annotation: Date and port arrival, or date of sentencing or reprieve for transport and port of arrival. Name of ship, crime convicted of and other information may also be provided. I believe in an earlier version of this book is the same record. Person: Thomas Page Year: 1738 Place: America Source: Bonded Passengers to America. 9 vols. in 3. Can you do a look up for me? I so, can you tell me exactly what this record says for this Thomas Page. I believe there has been a few supplements or additions to these books but I don't think my particular Thomas Page is in them? Regards from Australia Stephen R. Page

Dear David, You wrote, "The use of Harrison as his middle name has me to somewhat believe it might be a family surname, but . . . . . . " Yes, this is usually the case but another habit was to name children after presidents. William Henry Harrison was president in 1841. Regards, Sheila

I would invite Cannie Page-Harding, My Grandmother, I only knew her for a total of 15 days of my life. We lived in California and moved to Virginia just months after she passed. I would love to say "Thank You" for teaching all of her children to be good people. I would also like to say "Thank You" for being such a wonderful person herself. She made such an impression that at 43 I can still clearly see her face when I have a "Dr. Pepper" (her favorite) and still can hear her saying "Mychal" with her soft Virginia drawl. As to questions, I could keep asking till Christmas since I know very little of her side of the family. I would like to know if her Uncle Jesse C. Page and his Sister Mary Alvis Page were named after their Grandparents. They all lived in Beautiful Buckingham County, Virginia. Happy Thanksgiving, Michael Harding Sarasota, FL
The Y-DNA results of Billy Charles Page was recently reported to the members of the group. The results were found to be from a different Page Family Line than Col. John Page who immigrated from Co. Middlesex, Eng. to Williamsburg, VA in the mid 1600s. Here's part of my report to the tested members in the Page Family Group: "Y-DNA1-25 results have been posted for Billy Charles Page, kit 71110, a member of our Family Tree DNA Page group in Family Line N. He has exact matches with several in that Family Line with whom he definitely shares a common male Page ancestor. He is definitely NOT descended from a male PAGE of the Col. John Page line (Family Line F)!" Billy Charles Page, and several other Pages have traced their ancestry to Mathew Page, b. in 1625. Over the years many have incorrectly assumed this Mathew Page, b. in 1625, to be the Mathew Page who was the elder brother of Col. John Page, b. 1627. Col. John Page's brother, Mathew, lived several years in Virginia. He had a son named Matthew who was mentioned in the will of Col. John Page. Col. John Page had a mortgage on a farm at Middle Plantation near Jamestown called Neck of Land which belonged to Matthew Page in exchange for a loan of 104 pounds on 21 Dec. 1683 for redeeming said son Matthew from slavery out of Algiers. [RCM Page's book, p. 22]. A Family Bible of George Murrell Page ( b. 7 Mar 1816, VA & d. 28 Sep. 1903 in Barren Co., KY) says Matthew Page, b. 1625 was an ancestor. Mary Jane Murrell "Jennie" m. Robert Page, b. 17 Sep. 1743 in Albermarle Co., VA and they were the progenitors of the Pages who went to Adair/Green Co., KY after 1805. George Murrell Page was the son of Samuel B. Page & Elizabeth Smith [Source: KY 10-5 in Robert E. Page's "Pages of the Carolinas"]. Robert Page, and his brother, William Page, b. 1742, from whom Billy Charles Page is descended were the sons of John (d. 1744) and Elizabeth (Nichols) Page of Prince William County, VA. [Robert E. Page's chart VA 60]. Billy Charles Page's known Page Family History is as follows as submitted by his wife, Susan: "John page born Bedford Virginia 1805 married Nancy Humphrey in Bedford, Virginia his father was William Page born 1742. I think Robert Page of Albermarle and Amherst County was his brother. I think William was born in Price William County, Virginia. I think his father was John Page Who died cc 1745 in Prince William Co. Virginia. His father was most likely William Page who died cc 1712 in Stafford Co. His father was Matthew who was a brother of Col John page. If not this brother, then Robert Page. Col. Johns other brother who went back to England later. (sic: The Y-DNA refutes this possibility! - GWP) The only other possibility by names association would be Thomas Page in the Nansemond County area in the late 1600 and early 1700's. William of 1742 bought and sold land in Bedford county during the same time period that the Robert page who helped to form Bedford Co did. I think there is a family connection there. William bought land from Col Johns granddaughter in Bedford. There seems to be a family connection in that general area between Ole Johns linage, the Carys and Terrill's and Tate's Jennings, Humphrey's etc If you need more info I can provide what I have I don't currently have a digital file to send you All that info was lost 2 years ago via a lighting strike to the computer. I am currently getting ready to recreate my files and they will be placed on a backup external hard drive. that will only be turned on when I am backing up my files. it will keep them free from harm of any way word virus." A Matthew Page, age 20, on 27 Apr. 1635 was transported from London to Barbados on the ship "Ann & Elizabeth" under Capt. John Brookehaven. [Peter Wilson Coldham, "The Complete Book of Emigrants - 1607-1660," pp. 139-140 citing PRO: E157/20] This Mathew was too old to be the Matthew in question; but he could have named a son Matthew and been the one who lived and died in VA. These stories are great. What a wonderful idea!! Isn't this what is truly important - understanding who are ancestors were beyond a name and a date? We believe one of our family stories occurred about three weeks after Thanksgiving, 1811. It involves what was apparently the great New Madrid earthquake of 1811-1812, centered around the junction of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. It was the most powerful quake ever in the contiguous United States. Scientists believe it was in the range of 8.0 on the Richter Scale, making it many times more powerful than the better known San Francisco Earthquake a century later. Entire land masses fell, creating new bodies of water such as Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. The Mississippi River changed course and actually ran backwards for two days. The quake rattled church bells all the way back in New England. Trapped by the rapidly rising flood waters, my ggggrandfather and ggggrandmother refused to succumb; they attached a long rope to the wagon; she swam ahead with the rope, tying off to trees on high points while he swam the team behind, depending on the rope to keep the wagon aligned and safe from being swept away. From point to point they made their way to higher ground and safety. The story is tied to a huge earthquake when the Mississippi ran backwards, so we believe it would have to have been the big one. Interestingly, it consisted of three major shocks, with the first two occurring December 16, 1811, just three weeks after Thanksgiving. Maybe there was a more recent quake that produced a similar, if somewhat less devastating result in the Tennessee-Kentucky-Missouri part of the world. If anyone knows of such an event, I would like to hear about it. A date closer to the middle 1800's would fit better with our family history.
