I am searching for the family of my 4x Great Grandmother, Jemima B. Page. She and her husband William Harvey lived in North Carolina from approx 1775 to approx1810, when they moved to Indiana. They had eleven children: Evan, Sarah, Mary, John P., Elizabeth, Benjamin, Michael, William Jr., Absalom, James and Nancy. Has anyone ever heard of Jemima B Page? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nan
Hi, Lee Co. PAGE researchers, Oops! I didn't run off a copy of that last message; so, when it appeared on the BB, an error leapt out at me! In the information on the Lee Co. Tax Lists about Peter and John, I later added the note on the 1808 tax lists in parentheses, forgetting that I had quote marks below Peter's information for John. So, this is to tell you that the quote marks for John PAGE pertain to the words after Peter----NOT to the words just above John PAGE. Sorry! You probably already figured that out, however. Dolores
For all of you Lee Co., VA PAGE researchers..... Here are some records that I think will be of interest to you.... LEE COUNTY, VA Peter PAGE first shows up on the tax lists there in 1807 (no taxes were collected for 1808, so no tax lists) John PAGE " " " " " " " " " 1809 Your Peter and John, the earliest PAGEs in Lee Co., VA, may have been the men of the same name in these Personal Property Tax Lists. CHARLOTTE COUNTY, VA Peter PAGE in these tax lists 1800-1806 John PAGE " " " " 1801, 1803, 1805-1808 I know that the unusual first names of WILLIAMSON, CHESLEY and LAMPKIN were used in your PAGE family, so I watched for these names also in this and the next county named here. Here are some other interesting names that I found in this County: (given name is first and then family name) Page Parkerson Williamson Price (also called William Price and sometimes said to be of Amelia Co.) Chesley/Chisley Daniel (he was one of the list takers) DINWIDDIE COUNTY, VA Although I didn't find either Peter or John PAGE in this county, I did find the following interesting names that could be connected in some way to them: Page Coleman Williamson Coleman a number of WILLIAMSONs (last names) several DILLARDs Hope that this gives you some new ideas for your research. I'm looking for information on my great grand mother, Mary Ann Farmer, nee Page. In 1901 she lived with my great grand father, George Farmer at 48 Metchley Lane, Edgbaston Birmingham, England. One of them may be related to members of the Margetts family.
Previously I stated in a msg. that I found in the NY Fed. Census for 1810 (only one year proceeding the painter's birth) only two Page family entries --- Levi Page and Levi Page, Sr.. [I was disappointed to also find that the census records for that county were missing from my Automated Archives, Inc. CD-ROMs for the next couple of censuses! Does anyone have Albany Co. NY Fed. Census records of Pages for 1820 and 1830?] In a book ["William Page - The American Titian" by Joshua C. Taylor (Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1957),p. 1] I found that the Levi Page who m. (2?) Tamer (Gale) Dunnell were the parents of the famous painter, William Page, born January 23, 1811 in Albany, New York. William Page's mother, Tamer Gale, was originally from Worcester County, Mass.. She was m.(1) to a Dunnell by whom she had several children that she brought into the Page marriage. Their child, William Page the artist, was the only child of Levi Page to survive beyond infancy. William Page's father was indeed Levi Page, b. 3 Feb. 1772 in Coventry, Tolland Co., Conn., who was the son of Thomas 4 and Azubah (Strong) Page of the line of John Page of Haverhill through Thomas 3, Cornelius 2, and John 1 Page of Haverhill. Levi's father, the first mentioned Thomas Page, went to Coventry, CT from Haverhill, MA in 1746 and was the progenitor of the Pages in the former town. Until now there was no info as to what happened to his youngest child, Levi Page, but only his brothers Elias and Gad Page remained in Coventry, Conn. and had children. Gad Page, b. 5 March 1764, d. as a Captain on 26 Jan. 1841, m. Abigail Loomis on 27 Nov. 1788 in Coventry and received a pension for service as a Pvt. in a Conn. unit in the Rev. War. Elias Page, b. 22 Oct. 1761, m. Ester Kingsbury on 2 Mar. 1786 in Coventry. The youngest child, Levi Page, a man of firm Protestant belief, was described as a plane-maker and tool-maker in New York directories [See "Longworth's New York Register and City Directory, 1821-29"]. When William Page was nine years old (c. 1820) his family moved to New York City. William Page, the American Painter, in 1833 m. (1) Lavinia Twibill who was beautiful and served as a model for at least two of his most successful paintings. They had three daughters born in NYC (Anne Page, b. April 1834, m. Pietro Fortuna and had a daughter Emma A. Fortuna, b. in Rome in 1858; Mary Page, b. in 1836, m. Virgil Williams; and Emma Page, b. January 1839, m. John W. Watson). Lavinia became enamored with a Mr. Harrison and left home and family to be with him. She bore him a child who was named Zelda, and William and Lavinia were divorced without difficulty about 1841. The three children were placed with William's aged mother. They were later placed in the care of a Mrs. Ripley at an experimental community, Brook Farm, where they remained for almost 15 years, leaving only in 1855 to join their father in Italy. On May 14, 1843 he m. (2) Sarah Augusta Dougherty and in 1844 went to Boston from N.Y.C.. They went to Rome, Italy, where they were united with William's three daughters. She eloped in the late autumn of 1854 with a an Italian, Count Cerelli, and they were divorced in June 1857. William Page m. (3) in Rome, Italy on October 8, 1858 widow Sophia Candice Stevens Hitchcock and by her he is reported to have had six children. He first son was William S. Page, b. in September 1868. William Page lived the last years of his life at Eagleswood, NJ, and died at Tottenville, Staten Island, NY on Oct. 1, 1885, at age 74. The other Pages mentioned in the forward and introduction of the book who were no doubt descended from William Page include: Henry A. Page who owned the self portrait of William Page painted in 1830; and the late Bylnn S. Page. William Page (b. Jan. 23, 1811, Albany, N.Y., U.S.--d. Oct. 1, 1885, Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y.), American painter known for his sedate portraits of prominent mid-19th-century Americans and Britons. Page was trained and initially influenced by the famed inventor and Romantic painter Samuel F.B. Morse. From 1849 to 1860 he lived in Rome, where he painted portraits of friends such as Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. His best-known works, "Self-Portrait" (1860; Detroit Institute of Arts) and "Portrait of Mrs. William Page" (1860-61; Detroit Institute of Arts), typify the serene dignity of his likenesses, his monumental and sculptural handling of the figure, and his use of warm, resonant tonalities of dark colors. All these stylistic hallmarks show Titian's influence upon him. Most of his paintings and drawings are illustrated in black and white at the end of the book, "William Page - The American Titian."
Hello, I am looking for information about Penelope PAGE b. abt 1808 TN., d. abt 1871 San Augustine Texas. She married John Worsham 1826 in Mississippi. ---------- Page researchers, thanks for all the encouraging words, and thanks, George, for the very good advice. I checked out several books today from the library to help me follow your suggestions. I have just today found another bit of information on Charlie Page. Although the family lived in Illinois, my dad says Charlie was originally from Pennsylvania. That's where I'm going on vacation, so I should be able to do some productive research. PA is a long way from Texas, so I'd better make hay while the sun shines. My mother always told me that our Pages were "Black Dutch." Does anyone know what that means? Seems I read somewhere it has something to do with Appalachia. Daniel, your names don't ring a bell, but you never know. Good luck to all Page researchers, and keep digging. Gene Johnson

Hello, I am new and this is my first post. Does anyone belong to a Page family that left North Carolina in the late 1850's and went to Texas (Leon and Anderson counties)? If you do let me know, we may be working on the same line. Jeremy A Fountain http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/7170
Ah--so there are people out there. I have a testimonial to those of you new to the list or frustrated because no one else seem interested in your Pages. A couple of weeks ago I knew nothing about a Page line until I found some tintypes of Pages with names and a couple of relationships, but no locations or times. I posted the names. I now have about ten times more information on these Pages and their ancestors than I ever dreamed of! Now I need to concentrate on these later generations in Logan and McCracken counties, Kentucky: 1. William Johnson Page, b. 5 Mar 1824, d. 3 Nov 1887. M (1)Louisa Sanders 2. Their son, James William Page b. 22 Oct 1852, d. 9 July 1895. M. Hepsey Lucinda Taylor 3. Descendents of J.W. and Hepsey--I have only a couple of names: Will, d. of typhoid fever, age 44, McCracken Co. Was there also a Russell? All help and suggestions appreciated! Karen Dale

Testing, testing! I haven't received a Page post in over a week now. Where did everybody go???? Karen Dale
Karen, I'm here, but I've decided nobody on the planet is researching my Page line but me. I've looked everywhere for any trace of a connection and found none. I'm still looking for ancestors or descendants of Charlie Page who was an engineer on the steam engine train the John Bull, now in the Smithsonian. I don't know dates, but I think his son Nathan Page signed up in IN to fight in the Civil War. The family was from IL. Nathan Page had a son Arthur Page who had a son Early Andrew Page who was my grandfather. Early Andrew Page married Birdie Belle Holt. Helloooooooo...any distant cousins out there? Gene Johnson MJohnson@neto.com
Yes, Robert PAGE of Goochland Co. also had land in Amelia Co., VA. You gave the deed whereby he sold this land, here is the deed whereby he purchased that land: Amelia Co., VA Deed Bk. 2, p. 566: William Wood of King & Queen Co., VA Made: 21 Nov 1746 to Robert Page of Goochland Co., VA For 25 lbs. (money) - 150 acres "lying...ye South fork of Storks Creek" bordering the lands of Thomas Wingo, Col. Samuel Cobbs and Thomas Whitworth, Wits.: John Maulden George Pollard Shadrack Turner This record can be found on Microfilm #1035749 of my book "PAGE Family Records in Virginia Counties", Vol. I which was filmed by the Mormons in 1985 and can be ordered and read at any of their branch libraries. This book covers my research into the records of 82 VA counties in VA from 1967 to 1983. Vol. 1, although put in book form and copyrighted, has not been offered for sale as yet. I am now working on Vol. 2 which will cover my further research into the same counties (and more) to date. Don't know when it will be ready as I'm now working on a book of the Personal Property Taxes in the Virginia Counties for this family. As I do the research, I type it up for the books and then put it together when I'm finished. Some other items of mine on VA families that have been filmed by the Mormons are as follows: "Abstracts of Virginia Families", publ. 1987, filmed in 1990 - covers too many family records to list here, but they can be found on the Locality lists at the Mormon Libraries. This includes many early Goochland Co. families other than PAGE. (Film #1597677, Item 12) "Goochland Co., Virginia Court Orders, 1728-1794 - WILLIAMS Family", publ. 1983, filmed 1985 (#1035749, Item 2) "Goochland Co., Virginia Deeds, Wills & Inventories, 1728-1817 - WILLIAMS Family", publ. 1983, filmed 1985 (#1035749, Item 3) "Goochland Co., Virginia Court, Deeds, Wills & Personal Property Tax Lists" for the following families: (#1598221, Item #4) HODGES - Deeds, wills & inventories, 1728-1826 Tithable Lists, 1746-1774 LEE - - Deeds, wills & inventories, 1728-1803 Court Orders, 1728-1765 Tithable Lists, 1735-1781 Personal Property Tax Lists, 1782-1793 Hope this is of help to those who are researching the PAGE and related families of VA.
