In hopes of new people, I am finally reposting my PAGE information. Duh...I must have become brain dead with soooo many irons in the fire! That "new" puzzle with the Bennett household who had common names to my great-grandfather's children was his wife's family. They were her brothers and sisters! Apparently most of the children were named after them. Why???? It's not that traditional for the times. Steven Page
Re: Richard S. Page (1832-1912), Sampson County, NC I am still at a brick wall and was unaware about how those 1850 census index books were set up until someone told me they only contained heads of households (those who's first and last names were written down) rather than everyone so had to start looking for each name one-by-one in the counties. I came across the surname which my great-grandfather married into (Bennett) and that particular household had a Page living there (female and too young) and 5 of his children had the same names as my great-grandfather's children including uncommon names! Just another puzzle to look into! Steven Page
Hello everyone, I am at present researching my Pages from Devon and Somerset in England. Is there any one else on the Page site that happens to have ancestors in those areas. Rhonda Maher
For all of you Lee Co., VA and Hendricks Co., IN PAGE researchers, here's something I just dug up that might be of help to you. While researching the Personal Property Tax Lists of Charlotte Co., VA, I found some PAGEs that might be your Peter and John. There was a John PAGE and a Peter PAGE who appeared in these lists from 1796 on to 1809. John is listed in the 1796, 1801, 1803, 1805-1807, (no taxes collected in 1808), 1809 (for the last time) Peter is listed in the 1796-1806 lists I've been ordering and reading many of those early VA Personal Property Tax Lists for a forthcoming book and have the Lee Co. ones on order to read. It will be interesting to see just WHEN your PAGE people arrived in Lee County. Last year, I searched the Deed Indexes of Lee Co., VA for the PAGE name, but the earliest deed I found was 1830. The Index shows entries in the deed books from 1793-1844, but the courthouse was burned in the Civil War and earlier records may have been destroyed. However, if that is the case, it doesn't make sense that the deeds from the 1830's would be there and those before that would not. Has anyone found any earlier records of the PAGEs in that county....other than the Personal Property Lists? There was another PAGE family in Charlotte Co. 1782-1798, but they are in a different district and appear to be a completely different family. That family moved to NC before 1800. I think that there is a good chance that this Peter and John are you people as I also found the following interesting names in these Charlotte Co. lists: Chisley DANIEL - could be Chesley, a first name used in your PAGE family - he was one of the tax processioners Page PARKERSON - interesting because of his 1st name Williamson PRICE - Williamson is one of the first names used in your PAGE lines. In some of the lists, this man may be the one listed as William PRICE as both names have the word "redhead". Are there any redheads in your PAGE families? The Charlotte Co. Deed Indexes show no entries for John or Peter PAGE ....just for the "other" PAGE family there to 1798. For what it is worth..... Dolores

On page TEX10 in a loose leaf book I acquired several years ago from Robert E. Page III. Robert did extensive Page family research in the Carolinas and the South and prepared a two volume unbound book (fills two note books) called "Carolina Page's." He was last known to be at: Box 1195, Indian Rocks Beach, FL, 33785. His phone is 813-319-3261. Willis Weldon ("W.W.") Page (b. 7 Apr. 1831 Hinds Co., MS - d. 12 Mar. 1926 in Brown Co., TX) was the son of Nehemia & Elizabeth (Crane) Page of NC and then Angelina Co., TX, of which much has already been posted. Willis Weldon Page m. Levina Allbritten (b. 16 Jun 1831 in MS -d. Brown Co., TX). She was the dau. of Elan (b. 1803 in GA - d. 10 Dec. 1866 in Liberty Co., TX) & Mary (Lane)(d. 23 Feb 1866 in TX) Albritton. Their Children: i. Note: The naming of this first child LaFayette Page should be of interest to Sara as her "gfather James Layfayette Page was in Tx in 1894." ii. Samuel Joseph Page (b. 5 June 1859, Goliad Co., TX). iii. Mary Weldon Page (b. 13 Aug. 1864, Goliad Co., TX). iv. William Nehmeiah Page (b. 1 Mar. 1866, Goliad Co., TX). v. They are shown with a daughter Hazel Page (b. 9 May 1916 Voca, McCulloch Co., TX) who m. James D. Mullis. On page TEX50 of Angelina Co. TX, he shows additional children of Nehemiah & Elizabeth L. (Crane) Page as: i. Samuel Page (b. 1834). ii. Charles W. Page (b. 1835). iii. Rhoda C. Page (b. 1846). On page NC370 of Lincoln Co., NC he shows a James M.(b. 1815) & Sophia (b. 1824) Page with children: i. Lemuel Page (b. 1843). ii. Franklin M. Page (b. 1846). ii. William A. Page (b. 1848). iv. Elisha J. Page (b. Feb. 1850). The notes state that James M. Page sold 120 acres on Buffalo Creek, Lincoln Co., NC to W. A. Thompson on 28 Feb. 1859, and J.M. Page appeared on the 1854 tax roll of Lincoln Co., NC. I could not find a listing of James LaFayette Page in any of his AL or GA pages. George W. Page
