    3. Hello, i found this at this web site below and thought someone might find it helpful. http://www.knight.org/advent/cathen/11394b.htm Veneralble Anthony Page English martyr, born at Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middlesex, 1571; died at York, 20 or 30 April, 1593. He was of gentle birth and matriculated at Oxford from Christ Church, 23 November, 1581, being described as "scholaris Mri-Wodson". He entered the English College, Reims, 30 September, 1584, and received minor orders, April, 1585. He was ordained deacon at Laon, 22 September, 1590, and priest at Reims, 21 September, 1591. Dr. Anthony Champney, who was his contemporary at Reims, in his manuscript (q.v.) history of the reign of Elizabeth, as quoted by Bishop Challoner, describes him, as being of wonderful meekness, of a virginal modesty and purity, and of more than common learning and piety, and as having endeared himself to all by his singular candour of mind and sweetness of behaviour. He was condemned for being a priest, under 27 Eliz., c. 2., and was hanged, disembowelled, and quartered.

(b. c. 1622 in Hingham, Norfolk, Eng., d. 15 Feb. 1697 in Haverhill, MA) who was the dau. of George & Elizabeth (Key) Marsh of Hingham, MA is fairly common knowledge. In 1993 I had correspondence with Charles E. Page, RD#1, Box 270, Oneida, NY 13421 (315)363-2578 who addressed the Parentage of John Page of Haverhill in a letter to me: "John Page (b.c. 1614 (not 1619) near Hingham (sic), Norfolk(sic), England - 23 Nov. 1687 in Haverhill, MA) of Haverhill, MA line is well documented in a book, "The Family of John Page of Haverhill, Mass, A Comprehensive Genealogy From 1614 to 1977" by Lynn M. Case and Paul Sanderson. I have a copy of the book in my possession. I have had correspondence with other researchers of this line who have identified the English origins and ancestry of this emigrant: He was the son of Thomas & Cicely Page who were m. Oct. 4, 1607 in Rattlesden, Norfolk, England. The emigrant was however b. in Worlingham, Suffolk, England, not in Norfolk county as formerly believed." There are other researchers who have researched this further but found no conformation of this ancestry: Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 02:40:07 -0500 (CDT) X-Sender: bjnobear@mail.cjnetworks.com X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Light Version 1.5.2 To: gwpage@erols.com From: Betty Long <bjnobear@cjnetworks.com> Subject: John Page of Haverhill Dear George, My name is Betty Jo Long and I go back to John Page of Haverhill, Mass. I go then to Benjamin. I also have a copy of the book you mentioned in you latest e-mail to the Page line. I also have several records from Rattlesden, Suffolk, England and find no Thomas Page marrying any Cicely. A Thomas Page buryed his wife Bridgitt on the 25th of March, 1607. Thomas Page and Joane Baker maryed on the 13 Sept. 1607. I went back to 1600 and did not find Thomas and Cicely. Can you please tell me where this information was found so I can find it in a hard copy? My Page line comes down to James Page who married Lestina Wood in Vermont. He came to Kansas about 1875 and died in Abilene, KS. I have been watching this rootsweb line and have tried to help others and have sent information out to those who wish it and if it helps them. Would you be able to help me? I would really appreciate it. Sincerely Betty Jo Long bjnobear@cjnetworks.com _____ Col. George W. I was told that when Joseph PAGE's daughter Rebecca PAGE 1853 died she had a cousin Charles PAGE 1860 of the Sand Springs Orphanage visit Robert Marion BEEN and offer help. Robert told Charles Page that he was going to keep the unmarried children together at home. I checked the library in a book of Charles Page's life and I found that his father was James William PAGE. Charles PAGE was born June 2, 1860 on Arnott Stevens Point, Wisconsin. James William PAGE who died in 1870 when Charles was ten. James William was listed as a rather severe and puritanical man of French-Scotch parentage.

    3. In hopes someone has ran across my Richard S. Page from Sampson County, NC, or new members haven't seen it...I will repost this message: Steven Page ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Richard S. Page (known as Uncle Dick) born: March 12, 1832 Sampson Co., NC died: July 19, 1912 Clinton, NC - buried at the Page cemetery married: April 16, 1856 Sarah Elizabeth Bennett born: April 26, 1834 Sampson Co, NC died: August 14, 1908 Clinton, NC - buried at the Page cemetery The parents of Richard S. Page are unknown at this time but there are three possibilities of whom his father might have been. They were listed in the 1840 Census Records for Sampson County as: J. (John) Page (age 20-30) S. Page (age 30-40) Owen Page (age 30-40) All the above had a male child falling within the correct age bracket as Richard would be in 1840. Owen worked for the Bennett family and where there are land deeds mentioning PAGE, Thomas and Owen Page's names come up the most in conjunction with the Bennett family. Owen owned 150 acres in 1815 within Sampson County. How he obtained it is not known. This Bennett / Page connection would lead us to believe that Owen Page "may" be the prime candidate for Richard S. Page's father. Owen died February 1850. In the 1860 Census Records Richard shows up living in the Piney Grove township. Richard served in the Civil War: Pvt., Co. C, 5th Cav., Regt 63 - Enlisted May 16, 1862 in Clinton, NC. Served under Lt. Col. Elias Faison Shaw who was under orders of Army Corps. Lt. Gen. Richard Stoddert Ewell. Captured July 6, 1863 (National Archives show July 3) at Cashtown, PA during the battle of Gettysburg. Confined at Fort Delaware and paroled due to overcrowding. Received November 15, 1864 at Venus Point, Savannah River, GA for exchange. Issued clothing December 28, 1864. (Fort Delaware Prison located on Pea Patch Island at Delaware City, DE south of Wilmington, DE) Most Page families lived in the Dismal township and a few settled elsewhere including Sampson (earlier known as part of Duplin county), Cumberland and Wayne counties. The Page cemetery lies on the old "Dick Page Place" located between Coharie Acres and Coharie Creek on the outskirts of Clinton, NC along Hwy 24W between Clinton and Bonnetsville, NC and across from Go Chevrolet and lies in the middle of a harvested tobacco field farmed by the Holland family. The land may have been obtained through his wife Sarah. She inherited land from her brother Fleet Sampson Bennett in 1864 who had received half of a 300 acre tract from their grandfather Sampson Bennett in 1862. All of this land was divided up in 1915 to the children and their heirs. Over the years, much of the land was sold and some was auctioned for taxes during the depression. Dr.Oscar Lee Parker bought a large portion. He sold much of it for housing (Coharie Acres) and to the Coharie Country Club - which he loved to golf at. Parker died in 1984 leaving about 22.9 acres undeveloped he obtained in 1955 and divided between his three daughters - including Mrs. Catherine P. Waters of Clinton (formerly Catherine P. Watson). The Page family is supposed to own the rites to the cemetery but deeds were improperly drawn up and never corrected. As it stands, the cemetery is not on record and is assumed a part of the Parker property. Richard Henry Edwards, grandson of Richard Page, tried to buy back the property but was turned down. He also attempted to have the property ownership documented but was unsuccessful prior to his death in 1972. He did erect a fence around the property in the 1960's to protect the land from farm animals and a road that use to run towards the cemetery has long been lost. Dr. Parker was a descendant of the Cooper clan that was part of Sarah's family. At this time, at first inspection, only 3 headstones are visible. Two has double names, Richard Page and Sarah E. Page; Henry H. Edwards and Dobbin Edwards; and the third has Robert M. Page. Richard's is on the right as you enter the fence, Dobbin's is on the left and Robert's is at the back wall. Briars and heavy brush prevented closer inspection for fallen headstones but it's suspected that more bodies are buried there, including John David Page. (Courtesy of William Nelson McDaniel of Clinton) Sarah received 13 negro slaves as a wedding present from her grandfather. There is an old slave cemetery on the Faircloth properties around Fox Lake and last known in the 1930's, still contained wooden markers with the surname Bennett on them. Richard was a member of the old Boykins Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the fraternity of Masons, Hiram Lodge, No. 98 - who arranged the funeral services. Became a Master Mason in 1867. Rev. J. L. Stewart of Brown Baptist Church, a lifelong friend and neighbor of Richard, preached the service. J.L. "Jonathan LaFayette" Stewart (1835-1920) became part the family by marrying his second wife, the widow of Hardy Kirving Bennett. Hardy was another brother to Sarah. J.L.'s second wife, Elizabeth Eliza Bennett (maiden name Cooper) was a daughter to Fleet C. Cooper III and another branch of the Page family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steven Page don't forget to visit: http://www.freedomnet.com/~czar/surnames.htm http://www.freedomnet.com/~czar/pres/index.htm http://www.therussianmint.com/index.htm _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Mr. G. Andrews Moriarty, A.M., LL.B., F.A.S.G., F.S.A. who was an eminent genealogical researcher was interested in this family and provided in written articles most of the known parish and will records that he found. William Sickerling and Anne Rulle were married on 18 October 1559 in the Boxted Parish Church in County Essex, England. He died on 27 April 1599 about the age of 100. I'm sure G. Andrew did a very exhaustive and complete search to find and publish all that could be found. In England some 800 existing Parish Registers go back to 1538. They were written on paper until 25 October 1597 when Queen Elizabeth I approved an order that church registers be kept on parchment (skins of animals) and that the old registers be copied into such volumes for better preservation. Many vicars copied only back until 1558 when Queen Elizabeth I ascended the throne. Those from 1538 to 1558 that were not copied were destroyed, primarily by deterioration from the acidic paper used. 3. John PAGE, Jr., b. ca. 1761-2 in Orange Co., VA, md. Mary COLLINS there on 22 Dec 1783 and moved to Madison Co., KY by 1796 and was in Howard Co., MO by the 1830 Census. He d. in 1835 in Howard Co., MO and his wf. was listed in the 1840 Census there as "Polley PAGE". John Jr.'s birthdate is estimated from the first year that he appears in the Personal Property Tax Lists of Orange Co., VA with his father, John Sr.---1783. At that time, males became "taxable" at age 21. This would put his tentative birthdate as ca. 1761-1762 (1761 if he reached 21 just after the 1782 list was taken and 1762 if he didn't become of age until 1783). On his marriage (or bond) record, it states that John Jr. was the son of John and Elizabeth PAGE....this from "Orange County, Virginia Marriages" by Vogt & Kethley. Also in this book is the record of a marriage for John PAGE and Elizabeth MIDDLEBROOK dated 1777. This is a later marriage for John Jr.'s father; but it is evident that this Elizabeth MIDDLEBROOK could not be John Jr.'s mother. Perhaps his mother was also an Elizabeth. John, Sr. purchased land in Orange Co. from 1758 to 1769. His will was signed in September of 1789 and probated the next month. He names his wife, Elizabeth, and children in the will. The children were: (the four youngest said to be "under age") John PAGE Mary FURNIS (md. to Jacob FURNIS) James PAGE William PAGE Elijah PAGE Betsey PAGE Ann PAGE The first two children were obviously by John Sr.'s first wife whose name is not known at this time. James is questionable as to which wife was his mother, but the last four were most probably by the 2nd wife The fact that James and William were named executors of John's will might indicate that James was by the 1st wife and William by the 2nd wife----to take care of the interests of the children of both wives. John, Jr. was left two tracts of land, one called "Curtis' Tract" and the other called the "Goose Pond Tract". John & Mary sold this land in Orange Co. in deeds dated 1794-1799. In two of these deeds dated 1796 and 1799, John and Mary are described as being in Madison Co., KY. John, Sr. also left land to his dau., Ann, that lay in Rockingham Co., VA, so he had holdings elsewhere than in Orange Co.. Another tract of land described as being "on the head of South River" was left to sons James and William PAGE. This was no doubt the land that he had purchased in 1760 which was described as being "on the branches of the south branch of the Rapidan River" in Orange Co. at that time. Other land was left to the remaining children that will not be discussed here. At any rate, by the 1810 Census, none of John Sr.'s children were still in Orange Co.. John PAGE, Jr. and wf. Mary COLLINS' children were: John PAGE Frances PAGE - md. Samuel COY in 1801 Polly PAGE - md. Peter FORD Ann PAGE - md. J. PARKS Elizabeth PAGE, (b. 1785, d. 1860 in Grundy Co., MO - md. John WARMOUTH in 1805 Tandy C. PAGE James L. PAGE, b. ca. 1810, md. Malinda ? - lived in Howard Co., MO St. Clair PAGE, b. ? , d. 17 Jun 1852 - md. the dau. of John & Sarah FISHBACK (who may have been the widow of a MORIN) If anyone can add or correct any of the above, the information will be welcomed by all, I'm sure. I'll be gone for 7-10 days in case anyone wants to contact me. Our son will be at the house to download for me, so my messages received during that time will be saved and I'll respond to them when I return. Happy hunting to all! Dolores in California
