Thanks for the Sampson Page info. Right time frame, just don't have any children that match my Richard S. Page's birth year :-( Any more out there on my list? Steven, I'm a great believer in naming patterns, but sometime families just grab a name from nowhere (like Exolheath?). Then I have a Dale family in KY (married into Page) who named the sons after the counties they were born in! Woodford, Shelby, etc. Certainly made them easy to find once I figured it out! However--the next generation followed the traditional pattern--that's how I finally decided I had the right Dale line--when Shelby pops up twice... . Good luck! Karen Dale
Has anyone had a chance to do a quick look up in those Page's of NC surname books to see if they find a Robert Page, McCullock Page, or anyone with the last name McCullock, or a John or Sampson Page in the Sampson County, NC area? Going by "traditional" naming patterns, this "odd" name in the list of children for my g-grandfather may hold a clue to who his father was? Steven Page Got a business? Got a hobby? By looking at what people have posted to me about traditional naming patterns of the 1800's, I am not any more enlightened about who my g-grandfather Richard S. Page (1832-1912) father was. Going by the tradition... 1st son father's father... His first son was named Hardy Scott, which would have been the mother's father. First daughter mother's mother... First Daughter named Harriet Cooper - which doesn't match the grandmother but Cooper was Sarah's mother's maiden name.. Second son mother's father... Second son named Robert McCullock - which doesn't match any side, though this child existed and there is a headstone for him, he is often overlooked by family historians. He only lived to age 11. Second Daughter father's mother... Second daughter's name Franklin Dobbin - again, no matches The only "close" naming pattern I can come up with is that several first and middle names of the 13 children were the same as Richard's wife's mother, father and siblings which leads me to believe that "possibly" Richard may have been adopted? possibly the "McCullock" in his second son's name is a clue? Any McCullocks (or similar spellings) or any Robert Page names show up in any of those Page Families of NC books? Steven Page

If anyone has a copy of the Lynn, MA Vital Records, would you please adv ise if the PAGE name is listed under "births". Specifically, I am interested in the given names of Asa, Charles and Thomas between the yrs 1650 to 1725. I will appreciate any help offered.
Does any one know of a Helen Montague PAGE b. in VT ca. 1850's. Probably lived in Wilmette, IL for a while with her brother Charles W. Page and then went to LA. She died a spinster in LA ca. 1922-1933. I know nothing else about her. Gwen in WA State

I am new to the list and I'm afraid I don't have a lot to contribute at the moment as I have just started to research my husband's family for him. But as they say "every little bit helps" My husband's line that I am on at the moment is WOOD but there is a marriage with a Page and I managed to get a little on her and her father (very little I'm afraid) but perhaps it will help someone. John Page, a surgeon of Woodbridge, Suffolk, England had a daughter named Maria. (died 1848) She married MATTHEW WOOD (born 1768, died 1843) who was Lord Mayor of London (England) in 1815-1816 and again 1816-1817. He was created a baronet by Queen Victoria in 1837. and thus became SIR MATTHEW WOOD. They had three children that I know of: JOHN PAGE WOOD, who later inherited the baronetcy when his father died in 1843 and was a minister and was thus titled Reverend Sir John Page Wood. He was the secretary and cleric to Queen Caroline. (Born 1796 died 1866) WILLIAM PAGE WOOD who became Lord Chancellor and was raised to the peerage with the title of Lord Hatherley. (born 1801 died 1881) WESTERN WOOD who was a member of Parliament for London (England) (Had one daughter that I know of called Maria) The Reverend Sir John Page Wood had 13 children, one of whom was Henry Evelyn Wood, a renowned Victorian soldier. He is known for his part in the Zulu war and the Boer war and became Sir Henry Evelyn Wood with many distinctions and merits. (born 1838 died 1919) I realise I have given you more WOOD people than Page people but as Maria was the wife, mum and Grandma to a reasonably distinguished husband and off -spring the stories may have been carried into your "Page" family branches. I know in Brian's "Reid" side they all know about the Lord Mayor bit and about Evelyn Wood's army life, though not in detail until I started searching. Although Maria was from Suffolk, England, Matthew's family were from Tiverton, Devon, England and all their children appear to have been born there, of course they would have had a house in London for his terms as Lord Mayor and he was a member of Parliament after 1817 until his death in 1843. As far as I know the house at Tiverton was Hatherley House. Hopefully someone can pick up something on this. Lena (Reid)
I am new to listing so thought I would see if anyone has any knowledge of: Levi Page , born ca 1823 Georgia. His middle initial may have been either a T. , R. or L. He married ca 1845 to Mahala ?____?. The family is found 1850 - 1860 - 70 - 80 Jackson County, Georgia, although Levi is not listed with family from 1870. Known childrens names: James Monroe Page; John Lewis Page; William S. Page; Sarah Elizabeth Page; Pricilla Frances Page; Thomas John Page; Martha Jane Page; Nathan C. Page & Levi Page. Some of the children stayed in Georgia, others went to Texas & Oklahoma. Does anyone with Page family in Georgia see anynames familiar?? Thanks! Tommy Nichols

Hello! We are preparing a manuscript regarding the "goldrush" banking house of "Page, Bacon and Company" (who operated circa 1849-1855 in St. Louis, San Francisco, Sacramento, Sonoma, New York, London, etc.). We would appreciate any about any information folks might have about this interesting organization, including, but not limited to: 1. Anecdotal stories; 2. Genealogies for Senior Proprietor Daniel Dearborn Page (b. 5 Mar 1790; d. 1865); 3. Background/Genealogy for Henry Douglas Bacon; 4. Info. concerning S. F. bank operatives Henry Haight and Judge David Chambers; 5. Printed accounts of the bank's failure circa February, 1855; 6. Involvement of lawyer Abraham Lincoln in "Page, Bacon...." litigation (ca.1856); 7. Existing collections of "Page, Bacon..." ephemera (eg: Bank Drafts, etc.). Please contact us directly if we can provide you with more details. We anticipate publishing and posting our preliminary manuscript early next year. Hello Everybody, I was recently browsing through a Canberra Australia Genealogical Magazine when I came across the following which had been placed in the "North Queensland Register" ( a newspaper) dated Wed 25th Jan 1893.Thought I would place it on here in case it may be someones missing link. It was in the column titled " Missing Friends". PAGE , William Arthur Frederick, left his home in Bridgewater square London and sailed in the "Arundel Castle", Jan 1876, bound for Port Adelaide ( Australia). His brother Herbert longs for news and inquiries from Paris. Thought it may help someone , somewhere. Rhonda Researching Page in Devon and Somerset.
Hi David and others interested in Pages who went to California. I am researching the familly of James Daniel Page and Julia unk who came to California from Mass in 1853. In the process I have collected the following information, some of which seems to relate to your quest for information on Daniel Dearborn Page..... In Sacramento in 1853, the Colville Directory has a Page, Bacon and Company, an Exchange and Banking company. There is a Frank W. Page of MO working for them, and he is living in Sacramento at the Orleans Hotel. This same directory has an advertisement for Page, Bacon and Company with offices or branches listed in London, Boston, NY, Philadelphia, Pitsburgh, Cincinatti, Louisville, New Oreleans, St. Louis and Baltimore that lists Daniel D. Page and Henry D. Bacon both in the St. Louis office and Francis W. Page in the Sacramento office. Probably not related but also listed in the same directory are John Page from NY working for Morehouse and Brainard and a Robert C.H. Page from NY, working for Elias & Company. R. C. Page is living in San Francisco in 1850. Background is: apparently R.C. Page, C.K. Peters, and E.H. Parker (one of the Parker Bros. who helped build the best gambling casino of the day in SF, "Parker House" had what we would call prefab cottages built...perhaps sixteen homes in all...built in Boston. They were taken apart, numbered, shipped to SF CA in 1849. This infor was found in Barry & Patten's History of SF, 1850. In the 1910 SF city directories a Francis E. Boland (one of the lines I'm tracking) was an attorney with the Page, McCutchen & Knight firm....later became Page, McCutchen, Knoigy & Olney. In 1910 California census there is an Oscar Page b. 1887 in Texas living with a Ben Shirley (another line I'm tracking) in Kern County, which is near Bakersfield. SF newspaper records show the following births: 1876 Shirley Page, do Frances; 1876 Page do B. Frank; 1876 Page do JM Page; 1879 Page do HFPage. the following deaths: 1878 Rose Page 22; 1879 Frank Page age 12; 1879 Mariam Page age 3; 1879 Robert C. Page age 52. the following Page marriages in 1879: Anita, Frankie E., Henry, Henry D., John, Julie E., Lousa, Mary L., Sarah I., Winifred. Also from this same source above (SF History)is a story about Nash, Patten, & Thayor who built and owned the "Kremlin" in SF. The lower floor was occupied by a saloon, bar, and restaurant, and the upper floor by lodging rooms. During this time period, Captain Folsom shot at Mr. Nathaniel Page in the restaurant, but didn't kill him as the ball struck his watch ..... I also have information on a Page family living in Oregon who came there from Iowa. My PAGE line includes James Daniel Page Jr, born 1853 in San Jose CA, started working in law offices of E. Temple Emmet in SF at the age of 15 (about 1868), admitted to the Bar June 1878, elected Justice of the Peace in 1887, elected District Attorney of SF city and county in 1888, married Maud Shirley, daughter of state senator Paul Shirley in 1889. Please let me know if you would like additional information on any of this.....connie putnam, Falls Church VA
