    1. Re: [PAGE-L] PAGE, Christopher
    2. George W. Page
    3. The Christopher Pages in my database flourished in the 1600's in Maine and Mass., and were descendants of Thomas Page of Saco, Maine who d. in 1645. I believe this Page line died-out for lack of a male offspring. There is a Christopher Page who was b. on Oct. 23, 1744 in NH who probably had descendants not known. He was descended from the immigrant Robert Page of Ormsby, county Norfolk, Eng. line through: Robert1; Thomas & Mary (Hussey) Page2; Christopher and Abigail (Tilton) Page of Hampton, NH3; David and Ruth Page of Hampton, NH4; and Christopher5. Probably the best place to start your research is with a book I found several years ago in the Library of Congress by: Ethel McLaughlin Turner, Paul Boynton Turner, and Lucia Kate Page Sayre, "Wisconsin Page Pioneers and Kinsfolk" (Waterloo, WI: Artcraft Press, 1953). The book presents Page family members from Lunenberg, Mass. starting with Joseph PAGE who intermarried (m. Dec. 3, 1730) with the GOULD family of Topsfield, Mass. (Deborah, b. Sep. 23, 1707) and had several descendants including sons: Amos Page, b. June 2, 1743, (who m. Elizabeth RANDALL on Dec. 10. 1772); Joseph PAGE, b. Jun. 22, 1745; and Abijah PAGE, b. May 14, 1749 who m. Mary SAWTELL on Apr. 21, 1784. Some of their PAGE descendants went to Wisconsin. George W. 3. Prior to 1842: Christopher Page born in NY - anywhere from 1800 to about 1822 Sarah, his wife born in NY - same date range [Dates inferred from 1860 census data, listed below] 1842 - NY Birth of daughter Sarah 1844 - NY Birth of son Moses Page 1850 - Wisconsin Birth of son Christopher Marshall Page 1854 WI - Birth of daughter Rosella 1857 WI - Birth of daughter Frances 1860 Census of La Crosse, Co, WI, at Onalaska: #2001-1713 on 6 Aug 1860 Christopher Page (68/65)* - NY Sarah 60* NY Sarah 18 NY Moses 16 NY Christopher [Marshall] 10 WI Rosella 6 WI Frances 3 WI *The ages for Christopher and Sarah were virtually illegible; I put down a best guess for him and a related guess for her. I'll be at SLC in June to look again. IF the guesses were correct: - Christopher would have been born 1772-1775 in NY - Sarah would have been born ca 1800 - Sarah would have been age 42 when first child born, age 57 when last child born; this seems unlikely - either census/ages are incorrect or Christopher and Sarah were not the parents of the last three children - and if they were the parents, could it have been that there were other children born between the 16 and 10 year-old boys, who subsequently died and so the whole family moved away in grief? Christopher Marshall Page's marriage registration indicates he was born in Sheboygan, but could find no Page in Sheboygan Co, WI around that time. 1870 CENSUS for Farmington, La Cross Co, WI (#104-110) gives the household of: WOOD, Cerlemow 60 Sophia 54 Lewis, Emanual 10 Neill, Mortimer 16 PAGE, Moses 27 VT Emily 17 WI This Moses Page is the right age to be the brother of Christopher Marshall Page listed in 1860, although a difference in state of birth. The parents, Christopher and Sarah Page are not found in La Crosse Co in that census. If have been unable to find ANY reference to Christopher PAGE and Sarah in New York, although they would have been old enough to have been listed in a census somewhere from about 1820-1840. I have not found a death date or death place of Christopher, Sr., or Sarah. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ed Page thought there was a similarity in movements and times with his family, but no names could be found in common. Would any of George Page's database have a Christopher PAGE in NY or CT?

    1. [PAGE-L] Joseph Page, Monmouth NJ
    2. MATHEW A PAGE
    3. Hello Page Researchers My name is Mathew Page and I have been able to trace my PAGE ancestry back to Joseph Page Sr of Upper Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was my 6th great grand father. Joseph Page was a native of New Jersey (probably of English descent, however family lure states Irish descent) and was born around 1740s. It is believed that he might be the distant descendant of an Anthony PAGE (__-1690) who was one of the original lot owners in Middletown, Monmouth NJ in 1667; Anthony's son Anthony Jr (__-1712) was listed as being the proprietor of the family name in Upper Freehold Twp, Monmouth Co, NJ, however, this has not been prooved yet. Joseph married Margret Ann Robins (daugther of Margaret PAGE and Samuel Robins - Margaret was associated with the Chesterfield Burlington Co NJ Quakers and parents were a John and Elizabeth Page) and moved to Connellsville, Fayette County PA in 1801. Thier childred were Joseph Jr, Jonathan, John, Timothy, Hannah, Samuel, and Rev. William Page. Timothy stayed in NJ but some of his children moved West to IL (DeWITT County) Some of the other children of Joseph children stayed in PA and other children and descendents moved to various points West to OHIO (ADAMS, CLERMONT, COSCHOCTON, KNOX), INDIANA (JOHNSON, GREENE), and KANSAS (NEOSHA and ALLEN Co). My web page has most of the surnames listed at the top of the page under the surname section. http://pages.prodigy.net/mapage/homepage/index.htm Check it out and let me know if you find a connection. 1. [PAGE-L] Are You Descended from George Page of Branford, CT?
    2. George W. Page
    3. Hello fellow Page researchers. I am a retired US Army officer and spend most of my time actively pursuing family history and written two books. My line of Page descent is from George Page of Branford, Conn. who immigrated from, Shone, Kent, Eng. c. 1662 who I have researched for many years now having first corresponded with Edith Moyer Page who wrote a book about the descendants of this immigrant in 1977and Margery Page Vance who also researched his descendants for about 20 years. I have Margery's Page records which she shared with me several years ago before she died. I have been actively pursuing the English ancestors of the immigrant George Page of Branford (arrived in Conn. c. 1662), which resulted in a book: ---"The Descendants of Robart Page of the King's House- The Probable English Origins, Ancestors, and Relatives of George Page of Branford Connecticut and Thomas Page of Saco in the Province of Maine" written and published by me in 1992. Further research resulted in an addendum to this book. Currently I have identified over 3000 Page descendants of George Page of Branford, and more are being identified each day. I am always interested in finding additional descendants of this emigrant Page ancestor and sharing info. Descendants of George Page of Branford remain in the Branford/New Haven, CT area, but most migrated c. 1790 to Greene Co., NY, thence to Oneida, Madison, Otsego, Chenango, Broome, Livingston, and Yates counties in upstate NY. Further migrations over the years took the Page families to Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, and all points west. If your Page ancestor came from CT or upstate NY, there is a very good possibility you are descended from this emigrant Page ancestor. The best way to find out is to send me the names of your Page ancestors (plus spouse names if you have them) back as far as you can adding birth & death years and places if known. From my extensive PAF database file (15,000 records), I should be able to make your connection if you are descended from the George Page of Branford. If this is the case, I have much valuable genealogical data to share with you. I have done extensive research on the Kentish Pages, many of whom lived in the greater London area, from the late 1600's back as far as 1280. Others that I know in the U.S. are working on the county Middlesex, Eng., Pages; and I am working with a Raymond Page of Norwich, county Norfolk, Eng. on the Norfolk Pages, especially those that lived in the vicinity of Saxthorpe, Norfolk, Eng. up to the late 1700's. Raymond is also working on the Suffolk Pages of antiquity. I have also actively researched all the known early Page/Paige family lines of New England, and have an extensive library of books, records, and files about them. Sincerely, George W. Page George W. 3. The listowner says we have new cousins online, so I'm reposting to see if we can help each other. Josiah Page was born about 1805 in SC. He was in the Randolph Co, GA area in the late 1830s to early 1840s as he had children born there at that time. He is found in the 1850 & 1860 Madison Co Census report with the following children: Nancy, Marion, Jackson, Josiah, Winnie, John, Solomon, Louisa, Mary M., Angelina, Ephraim and Lorina. No further reference to Josiah is found. He could have moved in with one of the children that I haven't tracked further, he may have died in Madison or may have even gone back to GA. By the dates and birth places of his children, he was back and forth between GA and FL several times. Mary M. Page marr Jonathan Watson on 6 Jul 1871 in Polk Co. They lived in Homeland. Solomon Page was born 29 Nov 1846 in Madison Co. He married Elizabeth Jane Davidson on 25 Jun 1868 in Polk Co. He died 15 Jan 1916 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Bartow. Solomon is listed in the 1870 & 1880 Polk Co census. Children: Leoca, Bulah, Ida and Julian. Solomon lists both parents from SC. Wife Elizabeth lists father from Ireland, mother from SC. "Solomon enlisted in the CSA 5/2/64 at Madison. Solomon Page was the best boxer in Company D. He fought Jim Gibbs, Company C. and won. He was present on the last roll and was paroled 5/15/65 at Madison. He was 5'3", blue eyed, light skin, dark hair. He received a Florida pension after the war." from BRFCUS -Biographical Roster of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers 1861-1865. "Jackson J. Page was born in 1844 and married Caroline in 1880; died 10/15/1906 Pasco Co. He enlisted 1/8/62 in Fernandina. He was wounded in the right shoulder at Chickamauga 9/20/63 and furloughed" from BRFCUS. Ephraim E. Page was found in the 1870 Hernando Co census with wife Martha C. and : Jeremiah, Joanna C., James B. and baby. Also living with him were Marion W.(brother), Mary E. his wife and 2 children, Enoch M. and John G. "Ephraim E. Page b 1842, enlisted in CSA 3/28/61 at Madison. He transferred to old Company H, 1st Fla Inf 1/28/62 and was probably mustered out 4/6/62. He reenlisted 9/16/62 in Company H, 2nd Fla Cav at Jacksonville. He was sick at home since mid 1864 and was paroled at Madison 5/16/65. He was 5'10", hazel eyes, light skin and hair." from BRFCUS. Marion Washington Page (my GGrandfather) was born in Randolph Co Ga on 21 Aug 1840 and died 21 Jan 1905 in Lacoochee, FL. He was married on 3 Dec 1863 in Madison, FL to Mary Elizabeth Thomas who was also born in Randolph Co, GA. Marion shows up in 1880 & 1900 Hernando Co census with Mary E. and children: Enoch, John, Lanora A., Angie, Tilden, A.J., Laura, Tom W. and George W. "5th SGT Marion W. Page b abt 1841, Randolph Co, GA m. Mary Thomas 1863 in Madison Co. d. 1/21/1905 Hernando Co near Lacoochee. He lived in Madison and enlisted there 3/26/62. He was wounded in the right leg at Sharpsburg (Antietam) 9/17/62 and was captured. He was paroled then hospitalized and reduced to private. The part of his right leg was amputated and he was hospitalized in Lake City then retired to the invalid corps 10/11/64. He was paroled 5/16/65 at Madison and was 5'10", dark hair, grey eyes, fair skin and was a blacksmith by trade. After the war he did not receive a civil war pension because of a pauper's pension." from BRFCUS. Mamie Angela Page married my GreatGrandfather John Brown on 29 Jan 1890 in Pasco Co., FL. John Brown's mother was Tobitha Goff - daughter of James Steely Goff and Eliza Woodward. Marion did eventually receive a pension and I have the 22 page file from his and his wife's application. I have a few more details as provided by the census reports - state of birth and age of those listed, but this is the "meat" of my Page research so far. I could speculate on more, but this much is pretty well documented. Of course there are minor flaws in these old census reports, so any name changes or data corrections you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bill

There aren't many Pages in Burlington at the time, we are probably related, but there just isn't much information we can find. There are two Thomas Page in 1793 tax reports, one married to an Alice, the other is probably ours, but cannot prove. The thomas's could be father son? cousins? Also an Abner Page was in the same area. This name appears over and over for several generations. We will add your name to our little Page group and let you know if we find anything. Dorothy

Her parents are said to have been Apollus Page and Axiby _______. Anna Page married in Philadelphia, November 28th 1811, to William Bache, Rev. Dr. Pillmore officiating. I don't know what church, but there is strong circumstancial evidence that Bache was a Quaker, or at least closely associated with Quakers. In 1812 they moved to Wellsboro, Tioga Co., PA, where Bache's friend, John Norris had settled. Whether or not there was a blood relationship between Anna or her husband to Norris I don't know, but they named a son John Norris Bache. Their children were: William, Laugher, Sarah (m. R. G. White), John, Harriet (m. Charles Miner, of Honesdale, Pa.), and Anna (m. A. P. Cone). Thanks! Debbie

    2. Hi. My name is connie putnam and here are the twigs on my PAGE family tree....[still LQQKING to find that branch]. PAGE Summary: I’ve traced our Page family line back to Roxbury Mass. They were our great-great grandparents James Daniel Page (soon to become SR) & Julia unk who were in San Jose California in 1853 where our great-grandfather James Daniel Page Jr. was born. James and Julia were in the restaurant business in San Francisco up to 1865. Then they may have moved briefly to Amador county CA[beautiful!], and now I'm finding notices that a JDPage is having children in Oregon up to 1870. That's the status for now. Here are the dates and stuff: James Daniel Page born about 1825 Roxbury MA Julia A. unk born about 1835 Roxbury MA Children of James D. Page and Julia [naming patterns?]: i. Julia b. 1851 MA ii. They appear on the 1860 census living on Commercial Street, probably above their restaurant, as all the neighbors are businesses (Page’s Resaurant, 148 Commercial , James D. Page, proprietor) 1861-1865 CityDirectory lists James D Page still in restaurant business. No listing from 1965-1967 and the family does not appear on the 1870 CA census. Research Notes JD Jr: James Daniel was born in San Jose, a Native son, educated in San Francisco public schools, enlisted in the law offices of E. Temple Emmet at the age of 15 (abt 1868), admitted to the Bar June 1878, elected Justice of the Peace in 1887 in city and county of San Francisco, elected District Attorney of San Francisco city and county in 1888. They may have gone by ship and through Nicaragua rather than Panama.

He attended the Univ. of Chicago and started the study of law with the firm of Church & Kerr while he attended Michigan Univ. at Ann Arbor during the terms of 1873-4 and 1874-5. He graduated in 1875 and was admitted to bar of the Illinois Supreme Court in May 1856. In July 1865 he went to Bates Co., MO where he practiced at Pleasant Gap, which was then the county seat. In the spring of 1866 he moved to Butler, MO where he became a law partner with Judge David McGaughey. In 1874 he engaged in law practice with L. T. (sic, L. F.) Page. In 1866 William Page was appointed county attorney serving for three years. He was the mayor of Butler from 1879-1881. 2. Dolores C. Rutherford
    3. ` John PAGE, Jr. & Unity HARRIS (J-2) This John PAGE was discussed briefly in Part #5, but more will be added about him here. In Part #5, his birthdate was estimated to have been ca. 1738-39 because he was first taxed with his father in 1755.(1) Because these lists are incomplete for some of these early years, I am now of the opinion that John, Jr. may have been born earlier than previously thought---possibly as early as 1733-1734. John PAGE, Jr. md. Unity HARRIS on 14 Nov 1756 in Goochland Co., VA.(2) Unity may have been related to his sister Hannah's husband Sherrod HARRIS. Although taxed in Goochland Co., John did not own any land there until his father deeded 100 acres on Lickinghole Creek to him in 1761.(3) However, because of various court cases, he mortgaged this property twice for debts and it appears that he eventually lost it. His father may have redeemed it because John Page, Sr. sold it and the 150 acres that he had given to his son, William, to William BRITT.(4) John PAGE, Jr. was involved, both as the plaintiff and as the defendant, in a number of court cases in Goochland Co., VA, from 1758 to 1768. In the last court record involving him, John was said to not be "in this bailiwick".(5) From this, we know that he had left the county with his father, brothers and sister by late 1767. Just where he lived from late 1767 until the 1777 when he appears in Pitt Co., NC is not known as yet. From 1784-85, there were five NC Land Grants in Pitt Co., NC to men named John PAGE which totalled 1880 acres. Four more were issued in 1795 totalling 525 more acres. Whether or not these all involve this John PAGE, Jr. is not known although we can trace a great number of acres to him by studying the Pitt Co. deed records. There was also a NC Land Grant in Martin Co., NC IN 1786 to a John PAGE which could be for this John, but also could be for his son of the same name. At least two of the sons of John PAGE, Sr. (J) also named a son John and, by the 1780's both of these sons were old enough to have received land grants. Some of these land grants may have been for them. we cannot say for certain that all of these grants were for John PAGE, Jr. (J-2)---although it is evident that he was a large land owner in Pitt county. Also, some of the grants may have pertained to land granted to John PAGE, Sr.(J). A number of deeds appear in the Pitt Co., NC records that we can definitely trace to this John PAGE, Jr. because either his wife Unity joined in them with him or there were other identifying statements in them indicating that they involved this John. In 1777, John PAGE, Jr. purchased 290 acres of land on Parker's Swamp from Thomas NOBLES.(6) We can be certain that this land belonged to John PAGE, Jr. because, in 1787, he and his wf. Unity sold 200 acres of it to Alexander LEVY.(7) In 1788, John & Unity PAGE deeded 500 acres lying "on mill swamp and horsepen branch" to John ?. GILBERT.(8) This had to be a land grant previously issued to John PAGE, Jr. as there is no corresponding grantee deed to him for this property. Just from the above deeds, it is evident that John PAGE, Jr. owned a great deal of land in Pitt Co., NC at various times. He is listed in the 1790 Census of Pitt Co., NC with two free white males over ge 16, one free white female and five slaves. John PAGE, Jr. died sometime before 28 Feb 1798 when deeds began appearing involving his heirs disposing of some of his land. It appears that he left a will, but I have not looked into this as yet. In these deeds, his heirs were listed as Absalom PAGE, John PAGE, Joseph PAGE, Unity PAGE (no doubt John, Sr.'s wife) and William PAGE.(9) NOTES (1) Rutherford-Tithables: 2. (2) Douglas: 37.
