Bud, Just a caveat. My cousin and I have done much work on examining the Case/Sanderson book and found a number of errors and exclusions. Oscar, I am a descendant of John Page who arrived in Mass. abt. 1635. Many of his descendants are chronicled in a book I purchased from the Higginson Book Store in Mass. by the title of "The Family of John Page of Haverhill, Massachusetts, a Comprehensive Genealogy from 1614 to 1977" This book was authored by Lynn M. Case and Page Sanderson and covers this family from John's birth in 1614 all the way through descendant living today. Would be willing to share what I have on this family. Bud Paige
Pat, I don't know if this will help or not, but there was a Joseph PAGE in Caroline Co., VA tax records of about the same age as yours. This Joseph was in that county in the 1810 Census, but not the 1820 one. I do not have the name of the wife of the Caroline Co. man of that name. But it might be some place to look. You gave a birthdate of 1783 for your Joseph which would mean that he would first be taxed (at age 16) in 1799 or 1800 (depending upon whether he reached age 16 before or after the tax man made his rounds). The Caroline Co., VA man of that name was first taxed in 1798 and continued to be taxed through 1803 and again in 1810-1813, but not after that. If this is your Joseph PAGE, then he may have been the son of the James PAGE whose estate was taxed in 1801 (before that he was in these lists). Then, beginning in 1802, an Ann PAGE appears to be taxed in his place. Ann continues to be in these tax records through 1819 only. Perhaps this was James' wife. Of course, we can't assume that this James and Ann PAGE were this Joseph's parents....but it's a starting point for further research to either prove or disprove this theory. Sadly, most of the Caroline Co. records before the Civil War were destroyed in several courthouse fires, so it may be difficult to prove. I'll keep you posted should I find anything more to help you on this. Dolores
Hi Ed, Here is all I know. Possibly this list will have answers for both of us. Working Page History (Very limited) w/ some primary documentation denoted with an *. My aunts Page family, so far, is believed to start in New York. This would seem to be true if my first found unproven ancestor as Hyrum Pages marriage to Native American from the Mohawk Nation. Chapter VI, page 307 The California Excitement: The California excitement continued without abatement during the winter and a large number left in the spring. On the first week in April there Departed from Quincy, teams to cross the plains, the following persons. They were to go to ?nge, by ferry boat and then steer away for St. Joseph. The list of names we copy from paper of April 10th. On this list are Ether Page and James Pope. There were three and four persons to a wagon. Several of the wagons were drawn by four mules, though the majority of them were drawn by three or four oxen. On August 7th, 1849, the first news was published From John Wood & Co.s California Co. They arrived in good health and were thrity miles from San Francisco on the 19th of May 1849 on their way to the Mts. News from the Plains arrived in September 1849, being in a letter from Mr. George Adams to his brother James, dated at Green River Junction, July 28th, seventy miles from the South Pass. He mentions Mr. Ireland and lady, himself and wife, Mrs. Pop and two children, Mr. Houghton, T. Arrowsmith, James Cox, and Mr. Woolsey. Mr. Joseph POPE died from cholera, about eighty miles from Ft. Laramie. Mr. A says that they saw nothing to discourage them until they reached the Black Hills, where they were never out of sight of a dead ox, and could sometimes count a dozen in view at one time. There is a long list of emigrants as of 1 May 1850. Besides, Quincy these other Twps were listed, Ellington, Bear Creek Neighborhood, Ursa Neighborhood, Payson and Neighborhood, Columbus and neighborhood, Millville and vincinity.I dont have the book, just these copies of pages I photocopied back in 1994. Samuel Curless is listed as a Royal Arch Mason, Camp Point Chapter No. 170, organized under a dispensation on 28 Mar 1875, charter issued Oct 28th. Sam Curless is father-in-law to Ether Page. There was a Hiram Page who married Catherine Witmer who could have been brother to Loren Page as they were having children the same time as Loren and Eliza Clark Page. I would sure look under NY fiche to see if there are a Loren and Hiram as children of Hyram Page. If they had a Hyram and and Ether in the family line I dont know why they wouldnt have your relative Heman. <grin>. Possible brother to Hyram: From IGI George Page m. Thankful Starr 1795, Steuben Twp. Oneida Co., NY. The name George is carried down this family. Since this isnt really my line and I have not even looked at it for nearly six years the many questions that arise, such as, When did the Pages remove to Adams Co., Ill, which is mighty close to Rock Island, Ill. Was it before the births of the Loren children or after? I do hope this has been of some help . Ed, this is all I have. I dont know when my aunts Pages got to Oregon. I only know what I sent and that I loved and miss Aunt Betty very much. btw. you asked if I lived in Tigard, nope. But not far, actually in Forest Grove. Sincerely, Sharron
I have been watching this board for about a month. Very nice. Maybe these Pages have been talked about before, but could not find them in the archives, here goes: Martha PAGE b. c 1723 married Isham PUCKETT b. 14 Jan 1723 in Henrico Co., VA They married in VA or NC (have seen both locations). Ended up in Surry Co., NC or Lunenburg Co., VA. Betsy PAGE b. c 1725 VA married Daniel TAYLOR b. c 1725 d. c 1830 Brunswick Co., VA Both of these marriages c 1745 -1748. Their children Thomas PUCKETT and Mary TAYLOR married abt 1770 in Grayson Co., VA. I would appreciate any help on these PAGES. Eric Sprouls
` Children of John PAGE, Jr. & wf. Unity (J-2) John PAGE, Jr. and his wife Unity had at least five children. The first four of their children were born and baptized in Goochland Co., VA. J-2-1 William PAGE He was b. 5 Jul and bp'd 6 Aug 1758.(1) It is not known who he married, but records indicate that he was married and had some children. In 1809, a Lucy PAGE (unidentified) (in three separate deeds) sold slaves, furniture and livestock to Benjamin ATKINSON, to her son Dempsey LITTLE and to her dau. Christian LITTLE.(8) Could this Lucy have been the widow of this William PAGE and been married before to a man named LITTLE? A man named John LITTLE was one of the witnesses to the deed to William PAGE mentioned previously, so a LITTLE family evidently lived close to William.(4) If Lucy was the widow of William, then it appears that she was probably a second wife and not the mother of his children. In 1798, William joined with his mother and three brothers (Absalom, John and Joseph) to deed 100 acres of the land that they had inherited from John PAGE, Jr. to Alexander LEVY.(2) As stated previously, I have done no personal research into the records of this county (other than the census) so do not know if William left a will. The deed records of Pitt Co. indicate that he died sometime before May of 1806. At that date, his land was divided amongst his heirs. The land was divided thusly: Lot #1 (86 acres) to John PAGE Lot #2 (79 acres) to Kesiah PAGE Lot #3 (74 acres) to Vinson PAGE (Vincent PAGE)(3) Although lacking 14 2/3 acres of being the 248 2/3 acres that William PAGE purchased of Thomas H. HALL in 1802, the above land appears to be the same land. Perhaps it was re-surveyed at the time of the division and found to contain less than originally stated.(4) Because of the above deeds, we know that William PAGE had at least two (and possibly three) children. In the division of William's land, the legatees were only called his "heirs", not his "children". Because he had a brother named Vincent PAGE, I cannot be certain that the Vinson/Vincent PAGE who received Lot #3 in this division was actually William's son. However, I will him here as a possibility until more proof is found to settle this question. The birthdates of these children are not known, so they may not be in the correct order here. All of them were probably born in the 1780's. J-2-1-1 John PAGE In 1817, the Pitt Co. sheriff, on orders from the court, took possession of the 86 acres that John had received and sold it to James EASTON because of a debt owed by PAGE to Green WINDON.(5) J-2-1-2 Kesiah/Keziah PAGE Kesiah/Keziah PAGE sold 73 acres ("more or less") of his above land in Pitt Co. to Aaron ATKINSON in 1807 and the deed states that it was the land as being "part a tract of land that" was "inherited from my father.(6) and possibly J-2-1-3 Vinson/Vincent PAGE He received Lot #3 (74 acres) in the division of William's estate in 1806.(3) He sold half of this (37 acres) to Benjamin ATKINSON in 1814.(7) In another deed dated the same day, he deeded the other half of of this Lot (37 acres) to John WALKER.(8) Until more research is done on the tax and probate records of area of NC, I have no more information on this William PAGE's family. Perhaps someone else has records of them that they can post. If so, please give the proof involved. NOTES (1) Douglas: 264. (2) "Page in NC": 632. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. O, p. 202) (3) Ibid.: 646. Hello, I see I did it again. Posted names and forgot to post dates and locations. My apologies and please bear with me. So, let me try this again. Joseph PAGE b. abt. 1783 in Virginia married Fannie (Frances) ?. Most of their children were born in Kentucky. They were Joseph M. b. 1825, Sarah b. 1813, Thomas P. b.1818, Oliver C. b. 1823, Martin C. b. 1828, and Frances J. b. 1831. I know that they came to Jefferson County, Kentucky and moved to a farm on Long Run Road. In fact, Martin C. PAGE and his wife, Elmira, are buried in Long Run Cemetery. Joseph M. PAGE married in 1851 in Spencer Co., Elizabeth CANADAY b. abt. 1828 Spencer Co., Kentucky. Their children were Lydia Frances b. abt. 1859 who married James FIELDS, and Ella Zenie b. abt. 1860 who married in 1875 to Erastus FRAZIER. Although this is a lateral line of my husband's family (his gggrandfather is Elizabeth's brother), I am still interested in locating information on these people. I feel it makes family history more complete. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Pat Cannady

Ed, In answer to your question: Now, is there any place on the internet where I might find a list of the IL men who fought in this Mexican war?? Illinois men in the Mexican War: http://www.lumarmall.com/genealog.htm (also includes Illinois men in the Blackhawk War)
I sure wish I could find out my line connects to Delores's'. She sends so much great info. Here is my PAIGE line as I know it: Anna Elizabeth PAIGE, b. abt. 1865, in PA., d. abt. 1941. Married Wyrman Thomas NOLL, before 1908, probably in Centre Co., PA. They had children: Lesley NOLL (male) Nellie Claire NOLL, b. 30 Nov 1909, probably Centre Co., PA Jack NOLL Paul NOLL - twin David NOLL - twin The possibility exists her mother's name was also Anna Elizabeth, but that is a guess. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. David C. Wolff dwolffdn@aol.com

Ed, Maybe I missed who your ggggrandfather Page's name was? Where in Illinois do you think they were? Could it have been Adams Co.? I think Camp Point? My dear Aunt Betty Ruth Page b. in Tillamook, Oregon about 1920 ( the youngest of 12 children) died 1994 with cancer. I made it my business to find her grandfather Ether Page before she died. I did and also a newspaper item about leaving for CA for the mine fields. I will have to dig to find this material. If you think this is your family possibly I have a piece of your puzzle. BTW, her father's name was Paul Worthington Page. I need to look up more info for you. You might try putting Ether's name in the Family Search LDS site. Sincerely, Sharron in Oregon

And they couldn't just call United Van Lines. They were apparently not very picky because on one move (by train) they bought tickets to the wrong place and settled there instead of where they were originally heading. Lucky for me. That was when grandpa met grandma. John Page b. 1824 in Va. d.1909 in Mercer Co., Mo m.#1 Sept.13.1843 in Hendricks Co., Ind. I can't top Connie's note regarding her PAGE line that went to California (who can?) but I'm curious about the PAGE MUSEUM in Los Angeles, California. (My Page line went from CT to MA to NY to IL to IA to NE and finally to California.) Part of the line also stopped in Wisconsin before removing to California. Is anyone familiar with the PAGE MUSEUM in LA, California, and how it came about its name? I "assume" one of our PAGE ancestors founded it? Brenda (PAGE) Hare Cedar Rapids, Iowa -----Original Message----- From: ConPutnam@aol.com <ConPutnam@aol.com> To: PAGE-L@rootsweb.com <PAGE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, May 17, 1999 4:10 PM Subject: [PAGE-L] James Daniel PAGE MA>CA 1853 Hi. My name is connie putnam and here are the twigs on my PAGE family tree....[still LQQKING to find that branch]. PAGE Summary: Ive traced our Page family line back to Roxbury Mass. They were our great-great grandparents James Daniel Page (soon to become SR) & Julia unk who were in San Jose California in 1853 where our great-grandfather James Daniel Page Jr. was born. James and Julia were in the restaurant business in San Francisco up to 1865. Then they may have moved briefly to Amador county CA[beautiful!], and now I'm finding notices that a JDPage is having children in Oregon up to 1870. That's the status for now. Here are the dates and stuff: James Daniel Page born about 1825 Roxbury MA Julia A. unk born about 1835 Roxbury MA Children of James D. Page and Julia [naming patterns?]: i. Julia b. 1851 MA ii. James Daniel Page, b. 3 May 1853 CA San Jose iii. Albert b. 1856 CA [SF Daily Examiner Death Notice has Albert Y. son of James D. & Julia A. Pag d. 20 Oct 1865 age 9yr, 10 mo, 15 days] iv. Emma b. 1858 CA = ?John Hoesch living in Sacramento in 1898 v. Martha abt Jan 1860 vi.? son born 1865 nr Jackson [Amador Dispatch notice] vii. ?daughter Elizabeth dies 12 Oct 1868 age 7 weeks 5 days--Amador Dispatch viii. ? son born to J. D. Page in Salem Oregon 26 Dec 1869--Amador Dispatch Research notes JD Sr: James D and his family moved from MA to San Jose CA about 1852 and then to San Francisco shortly after, by 1860. They appear on the 1860 census living on Commercial Street, probably above their restaurant, as all the neighbors are businesses (Pages Resaurant, 148 Commercial , James D. Page, proprietor) 1861-1865 CityDirectory lists James D Page still in restaurant business. No listing from 1965-1967 and the family does not appear on the 1870 CA census. Research Notes JD Jr: James Daniel was born in San Jose, a Native son, educated in San Francisco public schools, enlisted in the law offices of E. Temple Emmet at the age of 15 (abt 1868), admitted to the Bar June 1878, elected Justice of the Peace in 1887 in city and county of San Francisco, elected District Attorney of San Francisco city and county in 1888. Republican, Member of Occidental Lodge 22, F&AM and of Stanford Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West. Married to Maud Shirley, daughter of the Honorable Paul Shirley, in a gala affair on Tuesday in 1889. Honey mooned in Del Coranado. Accused of embezzelment in 1891 and fled the state ending up in New York (relatives??). Eventually arrested in New York and extradited back to California. James was indited by the Grand Jury on 29 May 1895 and found guilty as charged on 23 March 1898. Imprisoned for embezelment, term 8 years in Folsom Maximum Security Prison #4497, received 19 Nov 1898 and discharged 19 Mar 1904...paroled 17 June 1901..Restored 14 Mar 1904. Governor received over 40 letters from prominent citizens supporting his parole. This Page family went directly from Mass to California [no visiting the other states along the way for them]. They may have gone by ship and through Nicaragua rather than Panama. ==== PAGE Mailing List ==== To subscribe to Larry Stephens' Regional lists, covering all parts of the USA, go to http://php.indiana.edu/~stephenl/genealog.htm

Is there anyone on this page who is researching Page's from New England? I specialize in collecting data on this group of families and I notice that most of your people are of the Virginia group. Oscar Kirkpatrick Oscar@Kirkpatrick.net
