Hi everyone, I recently received a precious gift from a kind and caring stranger - a family Bible that originally belonged to a member of my family 142 years past. This gallant gentleman 'rescued' the Bible from a thrift shop in Reno, NV, then diligently searched the web for descendants of those named within. He found me through a query I had posted regarding the ancestry of my 3rd great-grandparents (whose names are listed in the Bible), Osgood PAIGE and Martha W. BLAISDELL of NH. Their families were from the Amesbury/Salisbury area of MA. The Bible was presented to Ruth S. FELCH (wife of Samuel Blaisdell PAIGE, son of those named above) by her mother, Betsey (Kelly) FELCH on January 28, 1857. Then in 1888, Ruth presented the Bible to her own daughter, Martha B. (Paige) MOORE. The Bible's journey from Martha's possession to the thrift shop is shrouded in mystery. In addition to my 3rd Gr-grands, the names of my 2nd Gr-grandparents, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins are recorded on the pages - along with pertinent dates for most. The surnames included are: ADAMS, AYER, BAKER, BLAISDELL, BROWN, CARTER, DANIELS, EATON, FELCH, JACKSON, KELLY, LIVINGSTON, MOORE, PAIGE, PEARSON, POUSLAND, RANDLETT, SHELDON, and YOUNG. If any of you recognize these names and feel you may have a connection to this family, I will be happy to provide you with whatever information I have pertaining to them. You have but to ask! When he offered to send me this treasure (free of charge), his only request was that I share it with others searching for their ancestors. It is my sincere pleasure! I hope that I will be able to make at least one cousin feel as wonderful as my 'friendly' stranger made me feel - after all, sharing our heritage is what it's all about, right? Sincerely, Pamela Rhett Molzan
` Children of John PAGE & Unity HARRIS, cont'd (J-2) J-2-4 Absalom PAGE He was b. 22 Mar and bp'd 22 Apr 1764 in Goochland Co., VA.(1) In 1798, Absalom joined with John, Joseph, William and Unity PAGE as "the heirs of John PAGE, Decd", to deed 100 acres of land in Pitt Co., NC to Alexander LEVY.(2) This was part of the land that their father (John PAGE) had purchased from Thomas NOBLES in 1777.(3) His father John & Unity PAGE had already sold the remainder of this land to Alexander LEVY in 1787.(4) Absalom also joined with Joseph (his brother) and Unity PAGE (probably his mother) in 1798 to deed 370 acres of land in Pitt Co. to William CHERRY.(5) In this deed (and all the ones after it), Absalom was said to be of Martin Co., NC. In 1802, John and Hannah JOLLEY of Pitt Co. and Absalom PAGE of Martin Co. deeded 100 acres of land in Pitt Co. to Joshua MOORE.(6) In the same year, John JOLLEY sold his "claim and right" to 625 acres of land to Absalom PAGE. This land was described as being on "run of great Branch Creek" and also mentioned "Grindel Creek" and "?coneys branch...to the run of briery swamp pocoson".(7) It appears that Absalom sold 525 acres of this land back to John JOLLY in 1805.(8) The same year, as executor of John JOLLY's estate, Absalom sold 117 acres more to Frederick BRYAN and it appears that this land was adjoining at least part of the land sold to John JOLLY in the previous deed. This was more than what was left of the 600 acres of land that he received in the first transaction; but, perhaps there was a small amount of acreage added to this deed from some other parcel originally owned by the deceased John JOLL(E)Y.(9) Absalom, as executor of the estate of John JOLLY, sold 180 acres of land to Stapelton POWELL in 1804.(10) One has to wonder if Absalom had md. into the JOLL(E)Y family or else how would he be made executor of the estate of John JOLL(E)Y???? Another theory might be that a sister of Absalom's had md. John JOLL(E)Y. Although he lived in Martin Co., oddly enough there appear to be no land records for Absalom in that county. Absalom appears in the 1790 Martin Co., NC Census in his own household as a male age 16 and up. In the 1800 Martin Co. Census, he appears thusly: p. 403: Absalom PAGE 1 male 26-45 1 female 45+ (his mother?) 3 males under 10 1 " 26-45 2 " under 10 The later censuses of both Martin and Pitt Cos. are negative for this Absalom PAGE. J-2-5 Joseph PAGE His birthdate is unknown at this time, but he certainly was a son of this couple. He could have been born in the 1760's to 1770. He joined with Absalom, John, William and Unity PAGE as heirs of John PAGE to deed 100 acres of John's land to Alexander LEVY in 1798.(2) He also joined with Absalom PAGE and Unity PAGE to deed 370 acres of land in Pitt Co. to William CHERRY.(5) In this deed, Joseph was said to be of Pitt Co., NC. Joseph does not appear in the 1800 Census of either Pitt or Martin Cos.. Nor does he appear in any of the subsequent censuses of Martin, Edgecome or Pitt counties. John and Unity (HARRIS) PAGE may have had more children. NOTES (1) Douglas: 264. (2) "Page in NC": 632. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. O, p. 202. Also see Note #4 in Part #39 for more information on this deed. (3) Ibid.: 624. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. L, p. 247). In this deed John signed his name, but Unity signed by a mark (X). (4) Ibid.: 615. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. F, p. 232) (5) Ibid.: 633. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. O, p. 205) This deed was for 370 acres of land and was said to be partly in Pitt Co. and partly in Martin Co.. All three of the PAGEs, as grantors, signed their names with a mark (X). (6) Ibid.: 640. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. P, p. 242) John Jolley and Absalom Page signed their names to this deed, but Hannah signed by a mark "X". Could Hannah have been a daughter of John PAGE and Unity HARRIS??? How did Absalom get an interest in this land? Could Absalom's wife have been a member of this Joll(e)y family???? (7) Ibid.: 641. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. P, p. 59) John Page was one of the witnesses to this deed. (8) Ibid.: 645. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. Q, p. 3) John Page was one of the witnesses to this deed. (9) Ibid.: 644. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. Friends, Much to my horror, I just realized that my Part #40 post was not the correct one. I must be getting a bit rum-dum with all these posts. I was working on finishing up all the posts that were left and accidentally put the wrong in as #40. Sorry 'bout that! Counting the new Part #40 (which I will post today, I have five more Parts to post. Post #42 will be included. Please ignore or destroy the old Part #40 and substitute the new one. I'm sorry for all of the confusing changes in this work; but it was done as I went along and I wanted to make it as correct as possible. Beginning today (May 30th), I'm going to post one of these each day this coming week to finish this series. Because an Index would be impossible for these posts because the page numbers are not consecutive, I have also prepared a "Table of Contents" listing what each Part contains. However, it is six pages long and I don't want to split it, so I'll have to send it by personal E-Mail to anyone who wants it. Let me know. Warmly, Dolores
Hi, I am just starting to work on my wife's side of the family, the PAGE family. Her parents were Joseph Page, b. 6 Mar 1922, Harrison Co., MS; d. 12 May 1966, Harrison Co., MS, and Opal Alice ANDREWS, b. 15 Nov 1923, Sarasota, FL, d. 24 Feb 1976, New Orleans, LA. Joseph Page's parents were Allen "Bud" PAGE and Sarah DELCHAMPS. This is just about all we know about the family. Hope someone out there will be able to help. thanks Butch Stiver http://members.aol.com/flstiver/stiver.html
I am hoping to find the parents of Charles Page b abt. 1820 . His Regt. history says Strafford . He married Lucy Tilton in Epping April 11 , 1843 and they lived in Exeter . Charles enlisted in the 2nd NH Vols. and died Oct. 15 , 1864 . Any help would be greatly appreciated . Mahalo , Kevin

A Christopher PAIGE was a Captain in the Rev. War. He was b. July 14, 1707 the son of Daniel Nathaniel & Susannah (Lane) PAIGE (b. in Eng. - d. Bedford, MA in 1755). Capt. Paige m. Mrs. Susannah Webber and d. Nov. 11, 1786. I know not where he lived or died, or whether or not they had descendants. His siblings were: Cornet Nathaniel PAIGE; Cornet John Paige; Susannah Paige m. Samuel Bridge; and Joanna Paige m. Josiah Fassett. Capt. Christopher Paige had an uncle (brother of his father) named CHRISTOPHER PAIGE, b. in Bilerica, Feb. 6, 1696, m. Joanna ___ who d. Oct. 27, 1719; m(2) Elizabeth Reed in 1720 and moved to Hardwick, MA about 1735 where he d. March 10, 1774. Christopher had several children by his second wife, including a CHRISTOPHER PAIGE , b. June 11, 1721 m. Rebecca Haskell in 1739 and d. in 1772 (Obviously not in the Rev. War. He had several siblings, but no Edward Page. One of his brothers, Capt. William Paige, b. May 2, 1722 was a Captain during the French & Indian War and m. Mary Aiken in 1743 and d. on Feb. 14, 1790. They had a son: Rev. Christopher Paige b. June 12, 1762. The old PAIGE brother were the sons of the PAIGE immigrant c. 1675 (or 1684 according to some authorities), Nathaniel PAIGE, b, in Eng. in 1645 who lived in Bilerica (Bedford), Mass. m. Joanna ___ and died in Boston, MA on Apr. 12, 1692. [Source: Charles Nash Page of Point Loma, CA in Jan. 1918 on his Page Family Genealogy Chart No. 4 found in the Library of Congress under CS70 P133, 1918. He cites Brown's "History of Bedford" which uses the old spelling of the name, PAGE, which was used by some branches of his descendants.] It is interesting that the SAR Patriot Index on CD-ROM by Progeny Software does NOT have any Christopher PAGE or PAIGEs listed!

` Hannah PAGE (dau. of "J") md. Sherwood HARRIS J-3 Hannah's birthdate is not known. Her birth is not recorded in the Douglas Register, so she was no doubt born before her parents moved to Goochland Co., VA. She md. Sherwood/Sherard HARRIS in Goochland Co. on 16 Dec 1761.(1) The Goochland Co. records are full of HARRIS references. There appear to have been two Sherwood HARRIS men in this county at the same time. The older man of this name appears to have left Goochland Co. about 1756 and settled in Granville Co., NC where he died in 1763. William R. TAYLOR of Lyme, CT has done extensive research on this HARRIS family.(2) The younger Sherwood HARRIS who md. Hannah PAGE evidently did not own any land in Goochland Co., VA, but he was involved in two court cases there. In one of the cases, John PAGE and Joseph HODGES gave bail for him.(3) In the other, his father-in-law, John PAGE, Sr., alone gave bail for him.(4) The court records also show that Sherwood HARRIS and Thomas STARKE appeared at the June 1765 court and proved a deed from William PAGE to John PAGE.(5) No deed appears in the Goochland Co. deed books for it, but John PAGE, Sr. later sold this land to William Britt in 1767.(6) Sherwood may have left Goochland Co. at the same time as his PAGE in-laws did, but Hannah was pregnant and probably stayed behind until he could get settled in their new home. He was last taxed in Goochland Co. in 1767, but he does not appear in the 1768 lists. Hannah was still there when their third child, Hannah, was born and baptized in 1768. Mr. Taylor reports that he does not know where they went after that but, in 1797, this Sherwood HARRIS was said to be of Wake Co., NC and, in 1800, he sold some land there and was said to be "of Richmond Co.". His will was probated in Anson Co., NC. According to Mr. Taylor, Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) Harris had five children. Most of the following information is from him. J-3-1 "Franky" HARRIS (female) Her birthdate was not given, but the date of 25 Jan 1763 was given for her baptismal date by Mr. Taylor. She md. Isaac J. EASON, but no date was given. J-3-2 John HARRIS He was b. 3 Apr and bp'd 26 May 1765 in Goochland Co., VA.(7) He was md. ca. 1790 to Nancy, dau. of William WILLIAMS (place not given). This couple had twelve children, one of whom died young. One of their sons was given the first name of PAGE and four of their children md. into the WILLIAMS family. John and Nancy were in Hale Co., AL by 1817 and John is buried there in the HARRIS Cemetery near Akron. J-3-3 Hannah HARRIS She was b. 19 Jan and bp'd 27 Mar 1768 in Goochland Co., VA.(8). She md. Reddick DEAN. J-3-4 Mary HARRIS She was b. 1 Mar 1771 and md. Dudley WILLIAMS. They died in Henderson Co., TN. J-3-5 Archibald HARRIS He was b. 3 Feb 1774 in Wake Co., NC and md. Susanna WILLIAMS. He was a minister. Hannah (PAGE) HARRIS died sometime between 1774 and 1777 and Sherwood md. 2) Elizabeth ? (who was possibly the dau. of William WILLIAMS. They had six more children and most (if not all) of them were born in Wake Co., NC. Elizabeth, the 2nd wife, died in 1846 in Pickens Co., AL where some of her children had settled. This WILLIAMS family may have been related to the Goochland Co., VA family of the same name. Members of that family migrated to NC in the 1760's along with a number of other Goochland Co., VA families and Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) HARRIS. NOTES (1) Douglas: 25. The groom's name is entered as Sherard Harris. (2) This information is from William R. Taylor of Old Lyme, CT. Mr. Taylor has done extensive research on this HARRIS family of Goochland Co., VA and NC. His wife is a descendant of Sherwood and Hannah (PAGE) Harris. Mr. Taylor's An article written by him on the HARRIS Family can be found in THE VIRGINIA GENEALOGIST, Vol. 22, #4 (1978), p. 261-270. It seems that there were many men with the first name Sherwood in the various HARRIS families. (3) Rutherford-Court: 6. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 9, p. 246) This was a case of debt brought by Alexander Baine, a merchant in the area, at the Dec 1763 court. The case was dismissed at the Feb 1764 court. (4) Rutherford-Court: 8. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 11, p. 7) This was a "Trespass on the Case" suit with James George as the plaintiff introduced at the Jan 1767 court. John Page, Sr. gave bail for the defendant, Sherwood Harris, and the case was continued to the next court. However, I found no further disposition of this case in these records. (5) Rutherford-Court: 7. (Goochland Co., VA Court Order Bk. 10, p. 1) (6) Rutherford-Deeds: 8. (Goochland Co., VA Deed Bk. 9, p. 117) The 150 acres that John's son, William, evidently sold back to him (per the previous court record) was included in the 250 acres sold to William Britt. The remaining 100 acres had evidently been redeemed by John Page, Sr. when his son, John Jr. had mortgaged it. (7) Douglas: 208. (8) Ibid.: 208.
If you find out more about your line, I would like to exchange info with you. Part of my PAGE line was in Oneida County (near Herkimer County) by 1799 and was there until 1830. ` Because I've made quite a few changes in Part #38, please destroy the previous one and substitute this. That's the beauty of doing it this way, I can substitute changes in this way. Children of John PAGE, Jr. & wf. Unity HARRIS (J-2) John PAGE, Jr. and his wife Unity had at least five children. The first four of their children were born and baptized in Goochland Co., VA. J-2-1 William PAGE He was b. 5 Jul and bp'd 6 Aug 1758.(1) It is not known who he married, but records indicate that he was married and had some children. In 1798, William joined with his mother and three brothers (Absalom, John and Joseph) to deed 100 acres of the land that they had inherited from John PAGE, Jr. to Alexander LEVY.(2) In 1802, William purchased 248 2/3 acres of land from Thomas H. HALL of Edgecombe Co., NC. At that time, he was said to be "of Edgecombe Co." also.(3) In 1807, a Lucy PAGE (unidentified) sold slaves, furniture and livestock to Benjamin ATKINSON.(4) In 1810, she made a gift deed of some of her personal property to her son Dempsey LITTLE.(5) On the same day, she also made a gift deed of two negro girls, a bed & furniture, one horse and one cow and calf to her dau. Christian LITTLE.(6) Could this Lucy have been the widow of this William PAGE and been married before to a man named LITTLE? A man named John LITTLE was one of the witnesses to the deed to William PAGE, so a LITTLE family evidently lived close to William. If Lucy was the widow of William, then it appears that she was probably a second wife and not the mother of his children. As stated previously, I have done no personal research into the records of this county (other than the census) so do not know if William left a will. The deed records of Pitt Co. indicate that he died sometime before May of 1806. At that date, his land was divided amongst his heirs. The land was divided thusly: Lot #1 (86 acres) to John PAGE Lot #2 (79 acres) to Kesiah PAGE Lot #3 (74 acres) to Vinson PAGE (Vincent PAGE)(7) Although lacking 14 2/3 acres of being the 248 2/3 acres that William PAGE purchased of Thomas H. HALL in 1802, the above land appears to be the same land. Perhaps it was re-surveyed at the time of the division and found to contain less than originally stated. Because of the above deeds, we know that William PAGE had at least two (and possibly three) children. In the division of William's land, the legatees were only called his "heirs", not his "children". Because he had a brother named Vincent PAGE, I cannot be certain that the Vinson/Vincent PAGE who received Lot #3 in this division was actually William's son. However, I will him here as a possibility until more proof is found to settle this question. The birthdates of these children are not known, so they may not be in the correct order here. All of them were probably born in the 1780's. J-2-1-1 John PAGE In 1806, the court allotted him 86 acres of land as an heir of William PAGE.(7) In 1817, the Pitt Co. sheriff, on orders from the court, took possession of the 86 acres that John had received and sold it to James EASTON because of a debt owed by PAGE to Green WINDON.(8) J-2-1-2 Kesiah/Keziah PAGE In 1806, the court allotted him 79 acres of land as an heir of William PAGE.(7) Kesiah/Keziah PAGE sold 73 acres ("more or less") of his above land in Pitt Co. to Aaron ATKINSON in 1807 and the deed states that it was the land as being "part a tract of land that" was "inherited from my father.(9) and possibly J-2-1-3 Vinson/Vincent PAGE He received Lot #3 (74 acres) in the division of William's estate in 1806.(7) He sold half of this (37 acres) to Benjamin ATKINSON in 1814.(10) In another deed dated the same day, he deeded the other half of of this Lot (37 acres) to John WALKER.(11) Until more research is done on the tax and probate records of area of NC, I have no more information on this William PAGE's family. Perhaps someone else has records of them that they can post. If so, please give the proof involved. NOTES (1) Douglas: 264. (2) "Page in NC": 632. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. O, p. 202) (3) "Page in NC": 634. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. I have to agree. Many errors and exclusions. Use it as a tool and then do your own research. Genealogical research is "A work in progress;" and the book, like most such books, is a good starting point. Would you please share with us the errors and exclusions.omissions you have found in the book. George W. Page ___________ At 09:48 AM 5/24/1999 +0000, you wrote: >Bud, > Just a caveat. ` Children of John PAGE & Unity HARRIS, cont'd (J-2) J-2-2 John PAGE He was b. 6 Feb and bp'd 8 Apr 1760 in Goochland Co., VA.(1) He was sometime called John PAGE, Jr. in the records and is probably the John PAGE who received Land Grant #211 for 555 acres of land in Martin Co., NC in 1786. Thomas HURST had originally entered a claim on this land in 1778 and had signed it over to John PAGE in 1785. At that time, the land was described as being 640 acres; but when the land was granted to John PAGE, it only contained 555 acres.(2) Evidently, it had been re-surveyed and found to contain less acreage. In 1798, he joined with his his siblings Absalom, Joseph and William and his mother Unity to deed 100 acres of his father's land to Alexander LEVY.(3) John is said to have md. Martha EASON, but I have not seen the proof of this. Certainly, there were EASON families in Edgecombe and Pitt Cos., NC. He was probably the John PAGE in the 1790, 1800 and 1810 Census of Martin Co., NC. The 1820 Census for that county is not available. The 1830 Census shows a John of an age to be this one with a female, age 60-70, in his household. Three other PAGE men were living in the same county, two of them listed on the same page as John: Balentine PAGE, age 30-40 Kenneth PAGE, age 30-40 Erwin PAGE, age 30-40 The Patsey PAGE (age 80-90) in the 1840 Census of Martin Co., NC "may" have been his widow....and "Patsey" is a nickname for Martha. Also living in this county in the same census were: Kenneth PAGE, age 40-50 Irwin PAGE, age 40-50 Ballentine PAGE, age 50-60 Although further research would need to be done to prove that these were the sons of this John PAGE, it appears quite probable that they were. The earlier census records of this county, indicate that John had three sons and at least three daughters. Robert E. Page, III has compiled two volumes of informa- tion on the various North Carolina PAGE families which includes some information on this family.(4) J-2-3 Venson (Vincent) PAGE He was b. 6 Feb and bp'd 25 Apr 1762 in Goochland Co., VA.(5) Since he does not appear in any of the censuses of Pitt, Martin or Edgecombe Cos., NC and did not join in any of the deeds disposing of his father's land after John's death, he may have either settled elsewhere or died young. NOTES (1) Douglas: 264. (2) "Page in NC": 730. Thomas Hurst was the original patentee of this land which was originally said to be for 640 acres, but this Grant to John PAGE was only for 555 acres. The description of the land named the following persons as neighbors: George Cader, Belches corner and line, Andrews corner and line, Ballentine's corner and line and Stancel's corner. (3) "Page in NC": 632. (Pitt Co., NC Deed Bk. O, p. 202) This land is described as being "part of a Survey Conveyed to Thomas Nobles and part of a survey belonging to the sd. JOHN PAGE decd". This matches the description of part of the 290 acres that John Page purchased from Thomas Nobles in Pitt Co. in 1778. In this deed, everyone except Unity, widow of John PAGE (J-2), are shown as signing their names, but Unity signed with a mark (X). (4) "Carolina PAGE's", Vol. I, Vol. II, by Robert E. Page, III, formerly of Indian Rocks, FL. Mr. Page no longer lives there and I do not know where he is at this time. However, copies of his books may be found in the Library of Congress.(4) (5) Douglas: 264. The information on the next person to be covered is too long to be sent with this Part, so he will be covered in the next post. (next - Children of John & Unity PAGE, cont'd) (J-2)
