I forget to bookmark it, so I go to the Rootsweb homepage, click on SEARCHES, the search engine page comes up, then I click on "search over a million messages from 16,000 maillists" next enter Page-L in the form and click--that should get you there. 1. [PAGE-L] Civil War database....only half done
    2. The Civil War data base only lists about half of the soldiers that served.....lucky us that are in that half!!!! I put in the state of Indiana and only 4 names are listed....so that's one that has a ways to go yet.....see below. connie ~~~~~~~~~~~~ __It is not hard to find histories of the monumental figures of the Civil War. Documents and histories abound for Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee. Records of individual soldiers, however, are not so easy to find. The Civil War Research Database is a historic effort to compile and link all available records of common soldiers in the Civil War. Historic Data Systems has compiled and interlinked a wide array of records including state rosters, pension records, regimental histories, photos, and journals. The genealogical value of this record is immeasurable. More than authoritative names and dates, this database connects researchers with the history their ancestors lived. __The database is a work in progress. Considering the scope of its ambition, the amount of data already available is impressive. The project to date has digitized, indexed, and interlinked the roster records of 2,100,000 soldiers (out of approx. 4,000,000 who served), 2,719 regimental chronicles, 1,010 officer profiles, 3,343 battle synopses, and 1,012 soldier photographs. As the database continues to grow, so will the impact of this unique genealogical resource. Copyright 1997, 1998, 1999 - Historical Data Systems Inc. P.O. Box 196 Kingston, MA 02364

    2. Thanks to those of you who responded to my previous posting on the Pages in KY. As a result, I now have some corrections to make. Let me start by expressing my apologies to Pansy Page Allison. I must have been having a senior moment, but I could not recall her name. Thanks for your help Pansy. I had John B. Page, Jr.'s birthdate as 1839, it is 1829 (typo--sorry) Meddie M. wife of Bronnie was born in 1893 and died in flu epidemic in 1912 Samuel J. Page was born in 1838 not 1833 Elbert T. Page was born in 1896 not 1856 and finally the small nameless cemetery is Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery now known as Mt. Zion Cemetery as the church is no longer there. Joyce Page Collins tells me that these two pages are her gggrandparents Samuel J. Page and Sarah Jane Moody who was born in 1836. She also tells me that there is another cemetery on the same road (Rt. 1049), Old Mt. Herman Cemetery next to Monroe Baptist Church where there are a great number of Pages buried. That will certainly be a stop on my next trip, hopefully in October. I'm told that all of the Pages in Skaggs Creek are descendants of John Page and Dorcas Smith and that they are all in Donald Page's book on the Pages. Sorry about the errors and thanks to all who responded. Barbara Matchett -- BCM2834@aol.com

    2. For those of you who are researching the John Brockman Page line, I recently made a trip to Tompkinsville and Scottsville KY. I have picture of the gravestone of John B. Page, Jr. who is buried at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Scottsville. It reads as follows: John B. Page May 1, 1839 Aug. 12, 1910 At Skaggs Creek Baptist Church just outside of Tompkinsville, I found the following Page gravestones: Page John Brockman 1801-1880 Margaret Bennett 1801-1882 This stone was recently placed here because it is believed that John Brockman and his wife are buried in this cemetery. It was purchased by Helen Page Scott, Merritt Page and another Page whose name I cannot remember at the moment (I'm sorry). Nancy J. Page Born June 10, 1850 (no death date was engraved and John B. Page 10-3-1905 -- 6-5-1943 We also found a small nameless cemetery on Rt. 1049 outside of Tompkinsville with these Page graves: Samuel H. Page Born Dec. 29, 1837 Died Apr. 10, 1915 5th Reg. Ky. ?????? Sarah J. Wife of S.H. Page Born Dec. 10, ? Died Dec. 12, 1871 The Calvin R. and Arthur B. may be grandsons of John Brockman Page as he had sons by those names. I would be interested in any additional information that anyone has or corrections if I have misread the stones. This is probably all in Donald Page's book, but I don't have a copy. Anyone interested in any of these pictures can e-mail (bcm2834@aol.com) and I will be happy to send them by e-mail. I also have pictures of the churchs as well. Hope this is a help to someone. 3. To all who are interested in the PAGE families of Caroline Co., VA. A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that the Caroline Co. records might help us determine the ancestry of the Robert PAGE of Albemarle Co., VA who md. Mary MURRELL. I have read the Personal Property Tax records and some other kinds of records of this county, but had not read the court records. Many of the early records (before the 1860's) have been burned and others are incomplete. The deeds before 1846 are incomplete, but they and some of the probate records have been identified through the court records. Over two months ago, I ordered five films of some of the court records of Caroline Co. and they finally arrived. I have finished reading them (page-by-page) and abstracting all that I could of them for the PAGE and "possibly related" names. However, many of the pages were badly torn or either too pale to read, so I may have missed some entries. The years that I read were:: 1772-1785 I have seen the books of the court records from 1732 to 1742/3 which have been published by John Frederick Dorman and I understand that he has published them at least up to 1763. Books on VA records are difficult to come by in my neck of the woods, so perhaps some of you have been able to consult these books and could fill in the years 1743-1772 and after 1785 for us. If not, perhaps I will be able to do so when we go to the main Mormon Library in Utah later this summer. At any rate, there are twelve pages of my notes from these films and I'll be happy to send them by Snail-Mail to anyone interested. There are too many pages to send through the PAGE-L (without separateing them into three or more posts) and the Internet does not recognize bold print and underlining which I think add to this work. If you'd like copies of these, please send a self-addressed 9 x 12 manila clasp envelope with $1.37 postage on it and $1.00 for the copies. ....or $2.37 without the envelope and stamps. Wish I could afford to send them free to all who would like them, but I simply cannot do it. Dolores
