I'm posting this to the PAGE-L as I know there are some of you who are interested in the Charlotte and Lee Cos., VA PAGE families who went to IN. Hi, Trudy, I'm convinced that your Preston Lambkin PAGE belongs either to the John PAGE or the Peter PAGE (or one of their children) who went from Charlotte Co. to Lee Co., VA. It may be that they were father and son (John appearing to be the older of the two) or brothers. Since I haven't found them anywhere else in Va before they were in Charlotte Co., your family's story that two brothers came here from England may hold credence. I haven't read the Charlotte Co. deed records to see if they had any land which they may have sold when they went to Lee Co., but I did read the Personal Property Tax Lists and the censuses. Another PAGE family appeared in the Personal Property Tax Lists in Charlotte Co. from 1782 to 1798, but they all moved to Anson Co., NC in 1798 and they do not appear to be related to the John and Peter who appear later in these tax lists. John and Peter both appear first in these lists in 1796. Peter is there from 1796 through 1806. John is in these lists for only the following years (some years he was gone): 1796, 1801, 1803, 1805-1809. John may have been in the 1802 Tax List of neighboring Pr. Edward Co. as I can't account for the John that was there that year. Peter was the first to go to Lee Co.. He's there by 1807. Peter is there by 1809, but may have been there in 1808 as there was no tax list made in 1808. There are no deeds involving John PAGE in the Lee Co. records, but Peter sold his land there in 1832. He may have either died there or went to IN with the other Lee Co. families---although he does not appear in the Voter Lists (1826-1850) of Hendricks Co., IN as the others do from 1831 onward (two of them in 1831 and the rest began in 1832). There is no probate record for Peter in Lee Co.. I read the tax records only to 1829 for Lee Co.. Both John and Peter appear in the 1820 Census of Lee Co., but only Peter and the younger PAGE men appear in the 1830 Census. In 1820, John gave his age as "45 & over" and John's age was given as "26-45. HOWEVER! I think that the 1820 John is a younger John as there is a Mary PAGE age "45 and over" with a family living close to Peter PAGE who may be John's widow. I searched the probate index for Lee Co. for the years 1793-1944 and they are negative for any PAGE entries. So, if the older John PAGE died there, there is no probate record....it appears that he didn't own any land there, so probably didn't need a will. Well, this fills you in on what I've found so far on the Lee Co., VA PAGE families. I'm also posting this on the PAGE-L for Rootsweb in case anyone else is interested in this line. Hope some of this helps..... Dolores
Vicki, I found records of men named Alexander PAGE in the following counties in VA before 1850: Buckingham Co.: (1782-1850) Alexander PAGE was in the Personal Property Tax Lists 1841-1843. Alexander T. PAGE was in the 1844 list. Montgomery Co.: (1787-1850) Alexander PAGE was in the Pers. Prop. Taxes 1787-1789, 1792-1801, 1803-1806, 1810 Deeds Indexes (Grantee & Grantor) The grantee deed index was negative for Alexander PAGE although the grantor index shows him disposing of land in deeds dated 1786 and 1795 (none before or after that date). He had received a patent for this land in 1785. Probate: The will of Alexander PAGE was filed in 1823, but it names no children and he stipulated that his land was to go to the trustees of the New Chappell (Methodist) Church after his wife's decease. So, I think that you can rule out this Montgomery Co. man as being your John's father. 1830 Census, Hardy Co., (W) VA Alexander PAGE, age 30-40 there with family which included a male age 15-20 (of the age of your John PAGE) Hardy Co. was negative for any PAGE families before 1830 and after that through 1850. The 1810 and 1820 Censuses of VA were negative for Alexander PAGE unless he was listed with some other PAGE (or other last name) family. In that case, he would only be represented as a number in an age group as only the head of household was named before the 1850 Census. Perhaps, if you post where your John PAGE lived, I might have more information for you. Hope something in this helps you. Dolores

Karen- John Preston Page was married to Martha Lucretia Page. He is the brother of Williamson, Lampkin, Peter, Elizabeth, and Chesley Page. Their father was Peter Page. John and Martha had Margaret M. Page 1815-1904 (md to Isaac Towell 1803-1899); Mahala Page 1816-1904 md Wm Brantley in Hend. Co IN 1834; Susannah Page 1820-1922 (md Archlif McCloud, born Lee Co VA); and Sarah Page. There may be more that I don't know of. I have lots more on the Pages and the McClouds, whom they intermarried with many times. Also some info on Isaac Towell's children. He was also from Lee County. Seems a bunch of these folks ended up in Mercer Co., MO. I know Mahala did, and also Isaac's daughter Mary Jane, who married Robert McCloud near Mercer Co. Robert was the nephew of Archlif, and also my great-great grandfather. Kerry, Hendricks County, IN
John Page who was born about 1780 moved to Hendricks Co., IN from Lee Co., VA. He had several children. Does anyone know the names of his children and his wife (or wives)? In 1850 he was living with the family of Isaac Towel.

Eight children between 1823 and 1838. A son James b. 1838. I feel certain these are the parents of my James Francis PAGE who was born 1838. James Francis PAGE: b. 1838 Amherst Co, d. He was paroled at Appomattox April 9, 1865. James and Amanda had 8 children: Olivia, Edward, Wilbur, Luther, Maude, Willis, Charles, Mary. Hello Bud: Here's some info concerning your John Page: I have had correspondence with another researcher* of your Page line in Oct. 1993 who has provided info about the identity of the English origins and ancestry of John Page of Haverhill: He was the son of Thomas & Cicely Page who were m. Oct. 4, 1607 in Rattlesden, county Suffolk, England (about 8 miles se of Bury St. Edmunds). The emigrant was however b. in Worlingham (near Beccles, about 7 miles west of Lowestoft), county Norfolk (as formerly believed), England. *His name is Charles Edward Page of RD#1, Box 270, Oneida, NY 13421. He is descended from the John Page of Haverhill line as follows: John (1); Benjamin (2); Abraham (3); Samuel (4); Ezekiel (your #50) (5); Ira (6); Ira Edson (7); Charles Edward (8); Clayton Leland (9); and Charles Edward Page, b. 9 Nov. 1920 (see p. 173 of the John Page of Haverhill book). Lynn M. Case of Haverton, PA is his grandfather's sister's son. Lynn Case was still alive in 1973 but in failing health and could no longer participate in genealogical work. Warm Regards, George W. The subject book [Dr. Richard Channing Moore Page's "Genealogy of the Page Family in Virginia ..." (C. J. Carrier Co.: Baltimore, 1972).] has a small index that appears to be incomplete. Does anyone have a better index of the book that was prepared using Indexing software that they would be willing to post, or send to me as an attachment?
I am looking for information on an Elizabeth Page or her family. My gggrandfather was Thomas Black born in Virginia about 1781, and was in Rutherford County Tenn about 1825, Fayette County Tenn about 1840, and died in Harrison County Texas in 1861. Three of his children were Spottswood Henry Black (b 1808), Thomas S. Black (b 1816 my ggrandfather), and Edward Page Black born 1825. I suspect, but have not been able to document, that my gggrandmother was Elizabeth Page. One piece of information I have is the sale of property by a Thomas Black Jr and wife Elisabeth Page Black in Campbell County Virginia in 1806. Hopefully, this information will tie with your or someone else's information in the collaboration group. Thanks a million for any information you may be able to share. Tom Black tomblack@flash.net
