My post lists George Wallace as the first Husband when in fact he was the second. He married the widow Mary Page Amos. To add more salt to my "wound" I listed him as George and his real name is John his father was George. In the marriage records his name is spelled as Walles and he was born in Canada. They were married March 5, 1868 in Buckingham

For you CAUTHO(R)N researchers for what it is worth. Especially interesting to you will be the entries under Hanover Co. below: There are records of families of this name in the following VA counties early: Albemarle Co.: Deeds involving Thos. Cawthorn from 1758-1761. Essex Co.: There was a Richard CAUTHORN family in this county as early as 1747. Some records of the CAUTHORN families in this county can be found in the following books: "Virginia Colonial Abstracts" by Beverley Fleet, Nos. 5, 6, and 7, (didn't copy publishing dates) "Essex County, Virginia Deeds & Wills", several books by John Frederick Dorman covering the period of 1706-1730, publ. in the 1960's. (NOTE: There may be more of these books covering more years to which I did not have access.) Goochland Co.: I have abstracted nine pages of information on the CAWTHO(R)N families of this County from the wills, deeds, Douglas Register, and tithable lists (latter from 1735-1770).There are a number of persons of this name in these records which range from 1737 to 1799. I did not abstract this name in this County past 1799. (NOTE: Six of these nine pages can be seen on Family History Library (of Salt Lake City, UT) Microfilm #1597877, Item 12. This film also includes abstracts of my research up to 1983 for some other Goochland Co., VA families (some my families, some not). I've been adding to this first Volume of my Goochland (and some other Counties in VA) research since 1983 and will have that filmed also when finished. The three pages of the tithable lists have not been filmed by the Family History Library. My abstract of these tithable lists is not complete as this was not one of my families and, in some years, I merely noted in the margins of my notes that the CAWTHO(R)N name was there, but did not copy it although I did note the page number on which it appeared.) If anyone wants these nine pages, I will have to ask you to send $2.00 to offset the cost of copying my masters and postage to send them. You can contact me personally for this. Also, there are a number of excellent books published of the early records of this County which have references to this name in them. Hanover Co.: There is (or was?) a Cawthon Branch of Cedar Creek in St. Paul's Parish of this County in 1714 probably named after the Christopher CAWTHON who was taxed there at least by 1719. Later CAWTHONs taxed in this county were John (by 1749), James (by 1755). There seems to be some connection between these CAWTHONs and the HARRIS family in this county. (Article on William HARRIS in "The Virginia Genealogist", Vol. 22, p. 261-270) There are a number of interesting items in the Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish in this County for this name. There are a number of entries for Edith (Edy) CAWTHON dating from 30 Nov 1763 to 29 Nov 1766 involving persons paid for her keep as she was made a ward of the Court. I wonder if this might have been the mother of the Edith CAUTHO(R)N who md. John PAGE as his 1st wife????? Henrico Co.: Thomas Cawtho(r)n of Goochland Co. to Michaell Holland of Hanover Co. - deed for 88 acres in St. Martin's Parish. Witnessed by J. Bowie, Richard Cawthon and Wm. (WB) Bishop on 1 Feb 1733. No wife involved. ("Hanover County, Virginia Court Records, 1733-1735: Deeds Wills and Inventories", Abstracted and Compiled by Rosalie Edith Davis, 1979: 4) (Hanover Co., VA Court Records 1733-1735, p. 12-13) Henrico Co.: Richard Cawthorn - a wits. to a deed from Farguson to Farguson dated 1735 for land on the S. side of Swift Creek ("Henrico County Deeds, 1706-1737" Abstracted & Compiled by Benjamin B. Weisiger, III, 1983: 147) (Henrico Co., VA Wills & Deeds Bk. 1726-1737, p. 515) Ursula Cawthorn - dau. of Robert Sharpe, named in Robert's will dated 1772 ("Colonial Wills of Henrico Co., VA, Part Two, 1737-1781", Abstracted & Compiled by Benjamin B. Weisiger, III, 1977: 101) Rappahannock Co.: Richard Cawthorne, son of Richard of London (a merchant), was in VA by 1681 and is probably ancestor of the families of that name later in the Middlesex and Essex Co. records. ("Some Emigrants to Virginia" Second Edition, Enlarged, Compiled by W. G. Stanard, 1964: 21) Maybe others can add their research to the above listing on this family to help us all. First time I have tried multiple e-mail. Yesterday's local paper in Starkville, MS had article entitled "Government threatens free use of the Internet". ....has the potential to end with the arrival of Bill 602 P. This bill will permit the federal governament to charge a 5 cent price on every delivered e-mail. The last few months have revealed an alarming trend in the government of the US attempting to quietly push through legislation that will affect our use of the Internet. By billing the Internet service providers at the source, consumers are being attacked by the US Postal Service and the federal government, who plan to bilk e-mail users out of "alternative postage fees." The US Postal Service is claiming that the use of e-mail is costing nearly $230 million in revenue. They are using the advertising campaign "Nothing like a letter" to bring back business. Since an average citizen receives around 10 pcs. of e-mail per day, the cost to the typical individual would be an additional 50 cents per , or $180 per year above and beyond regular Internet cost. This money will be paid directly to the US Postal Service for a service they do not provide. Please don't sit by and watch our Internet freedons melt away. We must tell all friends and relatives about Bill 602 P. Please write your congressman about Bill 602 P and how it will affect you personally before it is too late." My words: get on the ball and spread the word around to others and have them as well write their congressman and lets stop Bill 602 P. If we stand together we can defeat the bill. My letter goes out this week. Linda Rives
It sure is good to see the activity on here!!:) I will throw in my James Alexander Page of Va. His son John W. Page third child b. 1813 in Va. The family moved to Ill. most likely by 1820. His marriage record was found in Putnam Co. Ind. 1839, to Villamenia Gullett, THANK YOU MAMIE!!!, children of John and Villamenia were born in Knox Co.,Il. starting 1841-1855. They are in Stark Co.,Il 1850 census. James Alexander Page is living with them there. They came to Br. Co. Ks. in 1855 as John appears on the voters census taken that year. There is also another James Page in the 1860 census for Brown Co. Ks. living with a Madison and Rachel Page. I am sure these two families are not related as my James Alexander died in 1859. I have been unable to connect them in any way. Would love to hear from anyone having any ideas on these guys. Vicki Schaefer
Boy, did I mess up! I sent my SINGLETON post to the PAGE list. SORRY!!!! Eventually my SINGLETON's and PAGE's do connect but I'm past that connection. I am looking for B. Franklin PAGE (the B. could stand for Bryant) born September 1853 in LA. He married Mary Alice Elizabeth MUSGROVE in the 1870's and they had Mary Mamie PAGE born 1876, Emma Eliza PAGE born Nov. 21, 1878 (Emma married George Fredrick OVERLAND), and Maude Alice PAGE born Feb. 7, 1893 (Maude married Henry Lloyd HALLIBURTON). B. Franklin PAGE and his wife Mary Alice lived in Harris County, Texas after their marriage. I am looking for parents and siblings of both B. Franklin PAGE and Mary Alice Elizabeth MUSGROVE. Thanks. And again sorry for the mistake in posting earlier. Sincerely, Alice <><
Just found this past week a note re: Thomas Page and Sarah Coate Page. An estate settlement filed in 1811 in Burlington for Daniel Coate who died intestate includes in the list of his Children: Sarah Page wife of Thomas Page Junior. The two things we learn from this is that Sarah's father is Daniel Coate and that Thomas is a JUNIOR. There are two Thomas Page's on tax lists in Burlington in the mid 1790's, The document goes on to say that Thomas and Sarah sold their one ninth share to a brother Asahel Coate in 1804. By 1805 the couple were in Clermont,OH so it seems that this sale is what financed their ability to move and set up business in Ohio. It seems that Thomas' father might be the Thomas who married Alice Scott. If anyone has informed about this family group, please let me know. Dorothy
Hi, regarding the Carolina Pages: from Robert E. Page, can you tell me what the cost of the books are? Marilyn Page Capps

I have the records from Goochland on Cauthan/Cauthorn that Dolores Rutherford has collected, but so far I've only looked through them to see what patterns might be there. They're probably all related but no idea how. I've run into TN/AL Saunders (David Saunders also came from Goochland to Logan) researchers who also have Cauthorns from Goochland Co. in their lines, but none of them seems to researched the name either. I have run across variations of the name a lot in doing research in TN records, but I don't know that they're from Goochland--and I don't know anyone there who's gone very far back with the family. Anyone want to make this a New Year's project? :) Karen Dale
Hi David, very glad to hear from you. After going through my files....I find that James PAGE married to Emily BENTLEY and Charles PAGE married to Emily UNKNOWN are the same person. James must have been James Charles PAGE. I had two of the same children under "Charles" PAGE. Do you have any further info on who the parents of James Charles PAGE might be. I am also interested in any BENTLEY info connected to this family you would care to share as I have so many "James PAGE in my family, I am trying to get them all sorted out. One of the ways I am doing this is by the allied families. My family is John, James, St. Clair, William, possibly Samuel PAGE.....all in Howard Co., MO. They all also had land in Chariton County. Some of the associated family names are WALKER, OWEN, WAINSCOTT, GRAPES (in Chariton Co.,) and a host of others. Would be more than happy to share info. I just recently received copies of the two part CAROLINA PAGES by Robert E. Page lll and along with it, his current address: Robert E. Page 87465 Old Hwy, APT 107 , Islamorada, FL 33036. There was no phone number included, but there was a note that copies are still available. I am searching for information about James and Sally Page originally from So Carolina who migrated to Wayne County, MO in circa 1850. I only know of two children, David J. Page, my great grandfather and William R Page. I have all of David J. and Sarah Elizabeth Hawes Page's children and some of the other descendants, but have hit a wall concerning James and Sally Page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Buck
After I posted my response to the following query I checked-out research by Robert E. Page III. Robert did extensive Page family research in the Carolinas and the South and prepared a two volume unbound book (fills two note books) called "Carolina Page's." Robert's last known address in 1995 was: Box 1195, Indian Rocks Beach, FL 34635. Another zip code I had for him was 33785. His phone was 813-319-3261, which I don't believe is still current. Under his Christian Co., KY (KY 16) page I found the following very interesting entry without a footnote or source listed: Mann Page marr. Alice Crymes (sic, Grymes) on 31 Dec. 1741 in Logan County (as Christian Co. was created in 1797 from Logan Co.), NC. On pp. 65-67 of Dr. R.C.M. Page's "Genealogy of the Page Family in Virginia" Mann Page is described as being the second of that name of Rosewell, Gloucester Co., VA eldest son of Hon. Mann Page, of the same place and Judith Carter, his second wife. "Mann Page, eldest, born at Rosewell, Gloucester Co., Va about 1718, resided there. He married, first 1743 [sic], Alice Grymes. [No location given.]. Their eldest child was Governor John Page [a very close friend of Thomas Jefferson]." If Robert Page III's entry is correct it would either put Mann Page of the Virginia Page line in Logan Co., KY in 1741 for the marriage which is two years earlier than the Virginia Page line historian recorded; or it was in reference to a local church entry for a local girl or man , Alice Grymes or Mann Page, being married to in Rosewell, Gloucester Co., VA! The later case does not make sense as Alice Grymes was the daughter of the Hon. John Grymes of Middlesex Co., VA who was a member of the Colonial Council of Virginia during the reign of Kink George I. Alice (Grymes) Page was buried at Rosewell (since removed to the nearby Episcopal church) and her tombstone indicates she d. 11 Jan. 1746 in her 23rd year, leaving two sons, and a daughter. She was the third daughter of the Hon. John Grymes, Esq. of Middlesex Co.. In addition to the Gov. John Page, her other son died an infant according to R.C.M. Page. Mann Page m.(2) about 1748 Anne Corbin Tayloe of Mt. Airy, Spottsylvania Co., VA and they had several children including a Mann Page b.c. 1749 who moved to Spottsylvania Co., VA; and a Gwynn Page b.c. 1758 at Rosewell; removed to KENTUCKY. He m.(1) Miss Herreford by whom he had one child: Dr.Matthew Page, b.c. 1789 removed to Clarke Co., VA. Gwynn Page m.(2) Miss Hoe of Caroline Co., VA by whom he had a son Gwynn Page of Louisville, an eminent lawyer who removed to San Francisco who died s.p. and left his large fortune to his sister Lucy of San Francisco who was also unmarried. Ok, I've been watching and waiting long enough, it's time I jump in too and see if any of you can help with my SINGLETON connection. Please! The only SINGLETON name I know I am connected to is Mary King SINGLETON who married John TAYLOR. And they don't go back near as far as most of you have. Mary King SINGLETON and John TAYLOR had a daughter, if they had other children I do not have record of it. Their daughter Jeanette Susan TAYLOR was born July 28, 1841 in Lynchburg, Harris County, Texas, Died March 12 1915 Evergreen, San Jacinto County, Texas and was buried in White Cemetery, Crosby, Harris County, Texas. According to an IGI Record found on familysearch.org Mary King SINGLETON married John TAYLOR November 19, 1838. But that's all the information it gives. I have been searching Census Records for more information and have found several SINGLETON's in Harris County, Texas one appears to be my Connection but all the pieces have not fallen into place for me yet. Does anyone know my Mary King SINGLETON? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Alice <>< P. S. Below are the Census records I have found so far containing the SINGLETON name. Maybe they will be of help to someone who is looking for a "lost" SINGLETON. NOTE: The first two census I have listed are both from the 1870 Harris County, Texas Census; the first was enumerated 24 Jun 1870 and the second on 26 Sep 1870. Both show a female Ida SINGLETON the first at age 15 and the second at age 16. MY ASSUMPTION was that this is probably the same girl whose birthday falls between June 24th and September 26th. I believe this name Ida SINGLETON might connect with my line because the Sam RIGGS age 4 that is listed will end up marrying the granddaughter of Mary King SINGLETON. This line goes --- Mary King SINGLETON married John TAYLOR in 1838 their daughter Jeanette Susan TAYLOR married William Carroll TEAL in 1861 and their daughter Jeanette Susan TEAL married Samuel Merritt RIGGS in 1895 ================================== 1870 Harris County, Texas Census page 643 Post office: Houston Enumerated 24 Jun 1870 66/80 FARROW, L.
