    1. [PAGE] PAGE - HODGES Info
    2. Dolores C. Rutherford
    3. The Patsy PAGE who md. James HODGES in Goochland Co., VA in 1808 was the dau. of William PAGE (R-1 in my PAGE Treatise on PAGE-L) and William's 2nd wife, Mary WEATHERSPOON. William was the son of Robert PAGE (R) in this same Treatise. Patsy was a child of William's 2nd marriage. As for Nathanial H. PAGE, he was first taxed in Hanover Co., VA in 1834. In that list, his name appeared right next to that of Benjamin PAGE in the same county. In subsequent lists, his name was either right next to, or close to, Benjamin's. This doesn't mean that Benjamin was related to him in any way, but I suspect there was a relationship. Nathaniel continued to appear in these Hanover Co., VA Personal Property Tax Lists for the years 1834-1835, 1838 through 1843. Then he appears in the Goochland Co. ones from 1845 through 1850 (the last year that I read these tax lists). He appears in the 1850 Census there with his wife and a child (Franklin I. PACE, not PAGE, age 7). So it appears that Nathaniel had no children of his own. Nathaniel was md. to Mary J. HODGES in Goochland Co. on 6 Dec 1843--- their marriage bond was dated 20 Nov 1843 with Henry R. PAGE as the security. This Henry R. PAGE appears in the Goochland Co., VA Tax Lists in 1838 "at Jesse HODGES:, in 1835 in Hanover Co. and again in Hanover Co. in 1842 and 1843 only and then is gone from both counties. In the time period that Nathaniel H. and Henry R. PAGE appear in these two counties, there were also some descendants of Prominent PAGE families; but I believe that these two men were descendants of the Goochland Co., VA PAGE families (which I call the Plodding PAGEs to separate them from the others in my mind). There are two possibilities for the PAGE ancestry of Nathaniel H. PAGE: 1. He could have been (GUESS!) a son of the Benjamin PAGE whose name was next to, or near, Nathaniel's in the tax recores. This Benjamin PAGE (E-7-4 in my PAGE Treatise) was probably the son of Benjamin PAGE, Sr. (E-7 in my PAGE Treatise) and grandson of Exolheath PAGE (E in my PAGE treatise) of Goochland Co., VA. Benjamin, Jr. md. 1) Martha HODGES in 1805 and 2) Mary TIBBS in 1833. The first marriage produce at least three sons and at least three daughters according to the 1830 Census. He appears in the following censuses: Goochland Co.: 1810 Hanover Co.: 1830, 1840 Could Nathaniel's middle initial stand for "HODGES"???? 2. Nathaniel "could" also have been (guessing) a descendant of the William PAGE (R-1) in my PAGE Treatise through one of his sons who stayed in VA. Only one of the sons of the first marriage of William PAGE (R-1) stayed in VA. That was William who md. Milley HOPPER. "HOPPER" might also stand for the middle initial of "H" in Nathaniel's name???? William PAGE (R-1) had five sons by his 2nd marriage and it appears from tax records that some of them were in that area of VA for a while and then migrated elsewhere. His son, James, seemed to stay there the longest and may have lived there all of his life. However, James was only age 52 in the 1850 Census----only 14 years older than Nathaniel H. PAGE in that same census----so we can rule him out as Nathaniel's father. Do you suppose that Henry R. PAGE, the security at Nathaniel's marriage, was his brother???? This is enough "guessing" for now....I haven't carried some of these families that stayed in VA down from the 1830's. Dolores

    2. My "cousin" has been searching through the Lebanon paper in early 1800's, I believe it was called the Star or the Western Star. She encountered an article in ref. to the Page family although mine are from NJ and these from VA, I thought someone might be interested in it. Dorothy On the same page as a list of letters is a wonderful Clinton Co. lawsuit by one John Graham against an entire family headed, I think, by Nathaniel Massie, who owned lots of Virginia Military Lands. So everyone is listed, from the deceased Nathaniel's minor children on through the Nelson family, with all those wonderful daughters' married names, including Sarah (Nelson)Page, wife of Charles C. Page, and the minor children of Mary (Nelson)Page, deceased: Robert, Charles Landon, and John Francis. This family was from King William Co., Virginia, and at the time of the suit, April 18, 1818, was living "out of the state of Ohio,"

    3. This is a further update to my previous messages. This message incorporates all previous comments about this subject, so the other messages with this subject from me may be deleted. It appears that Elias Page of Oneida Co.. NY may have been descended from the John Page of Haverhill, MA line of Pages in which line there were several Elias Pages. Elias Page (b. 22 Oct. 1761 Coventry, Tolland Co., CT, the son of Thomas4, Thomas3, Cornelius2, John1 Page of Haverhill) m. 2 Mar. 1786 Ester Kingsbury [Coventry Vital Records]. They had children: Almira Page, b. 24 Nov. 1786; Joseph Page, b. 3 Aug. 1788; [May have been the Joseph Page who appears in Oneida Co. --- see below] Elias Page (twin), b. 5 Nov 1790; Ester Page (twin), b. 5 Nov. 1790; David Page, b. 3 Jan. 1795; Oziah Page, b. 5 May 1797; Daniell Page, b. 26 Sep. 1799 [Source: Lynn M. Case & Page Sanderson, "The Family of John Page of Haverhill. Mass." (Reprinted by Higginson Books, 1978), p. 57.] Elias Page (as does his younger brother Gad Page who was b. 5 Mar. 1784 and m. Abigail Loomis 27 Nov. 1788) appears in the 1790 Federal Census of Tolland Co. with (2,0,1,0,0). In 1800 he appears with (21010-3101000). He is NOT enumerated there in the 1810 Federal Census. Their older brother, Phineas Page, b. 25 Dec. 1755 in Coventry Co., CT. who m. 21 May 1777 Serviah Lamb appears to have died prior to the 1790 Federal Census. ________ I have deduced from Deed books of Oneida Co., NY that Joseph Page was the son of Elias Page. Elias Page first acquired land in Oneida Co., NY on Apr. 6, 1801 from Alverson Wade & his wife. Alverson Wade was the father of Lovina Wade who m. Marcus Page in Oneida Co., NY in 1806. Marcus was b. in Conn. the son of Abel Page who was descended from the line of the immigrant George Page of Branford, CT. In 1806 Elias Page obtained more land in Oneida Co. from Solomon Hitchcock & wife. In 1814 Elias Page obtained more land from Jesse Coe & wife. On October 16, 1833 Elias Page transferred land to Joseph Page, probably his son. ____________ Three unplaced/unknown Pages appear as Heads of Households in Marshall Twp., Oneida Co., NY in the 1830 Federal Census: Elias Page, p. 141; Joseph Page, p. 141; William Page, p. 132. They are not sons of Eli Page of Marshall Twp. who was of the George Page of Branford line as are his sons: Daniel Page (p. 143), Eli Page (p. 143), and Ephraim Page (p. 133). Does anyone know their ancestry, or anything about them?

    3. This is a correction to my last message about the ancestry of Daniel Page who died 12/23/1879 and is buried in the Deansboro Cem. He was the son of Eli and Sarah (White) Page and IS of the George Page of Branford line of Pages! Here are my notes about him: p. 37 of Edith (Moyer) Page's book says he was b. 17 May 1807. His grave says 1802 (d. 12,23,1879 ae. 77 yrs.,7 mo. 6 days); Mrs. Vance's notes say 1801! The Directory of Marshall, Oneida, NY, dtd. 1869 lists him in Deansboro, co-owner of "Page & Mowry" Variety Store and Coal dealers. A copy of Family Bible Record in N.S.D.A.R. (New York Vol. 42 p. 260/1-1939) shows his birthday as 17 May 1802 and his family. He m.(1) Clarissa Hinman, b. June 17, 1805, d. Jan. 10, 1868. They were m. September 7, 1826 and had: George H. Page, b. 13 Sep. 1827; Helen M., b. 22 Oct. 1831 m. John Strong L. Mowry; and Marian E., b. 31 Oct 1834 m. William L. Bartholomew. George m. October 3, 1849 Cordelia Wilmot. They had George who d. as an infant; Dewitt, b. Jan. 1857; Frank b. September 16, 1858; and Roscoe b. August 24, 1860. Cordelia d. Dec. 13, 1872. George m.(2) June 18, 1873 Harriet M. Gruman. They had: Newton G. b. March 28, 1876, d. after 1959. Daniel d. Dec. 23, 1879 and is buried in the Deansboro Cem., Kirkland, Oneida Co., NY. (Source: Page Family Bible Record, N.Y. Bible & Family Records Vol. 42, D.A.R. 1938/9, p. 260, plus I visited his grave). Eli Page is of my Page line, and my third great grandfather, who is descended from George Page of Branford, Conn. The several Pages of Sangerfield are not descended from the George Page of Branford line, and I found them descended from another New England line which I cannot remember off hand. I just returned home and will be able to shed more light on them later. 3. Listmembers, We always need to defend our computers against viruses. Right now, it is essential that we remember to do so, because there are worm viruses circulating. Remember that, once opened, worm viruses get into an innocent person's computer and send randomly, forging the FROM: address. The innocent person who unknowingly opened the virus and activated it usually does not even realize what has happened. Remember not to open any attachments, unless you know that the person who sent it is sending that particular attachment deliberately. Even if it is from your sister or best friend, be sure that s/he intended to send that particular attachment - her/his computer could be infected, and unknowingly be sending you a worm. For the next couple of weeks (at least), I advise that you do not open ANY attachments that end in .exe, - no matter who they are from, or what they claim to be - that attachment that looks to be and says it is a Holiday card could very well be a worm. Go to http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus1.html and read what RootsWeb has to say about these viruses, then go to the other links off that page and read what they say also. If you have any doubts about anything you receive, ask someone at the RootsWeb helpdesk http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi Within the next couple of weeks, we will have many new cousins join us who have received computers for Christmas. Many have not used computers before. Let's please remember how we felt when we first came online, remember that these are our kin (maybe our line!!), and remember to be patient, helpful and kind. If a new cousin seems lost and/or is making mistakes, please take him/her under your wing and help, rather than being critical. I sincerely hope all of you have a happy, healthy, peaceful and safe holiday season!! 3. Hi Everyone. Although not applying directly to the list I'm sending this inquiry to, it does apply to one of the branches of one of my wife's family lines for which I do not believe there is a list. Does anyone have the following source ( or know where I might be able to obtain it) ? SMITH, LEONARD H., JR., and NORMA H. SMITH. Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1992. 546p. I am searching for the annotation therein for on George FANCY, who is listed on page 340. I am looking for his date and port of arrival or date and place of mention in the New World, place of origin, birth date, occupation, reference to original source, and other genealogical information which may also be provided in this source. I hope someone can help with this. Thanks. The Reverend Wayne Dean Sr.

    3. Dear Vicki and Other Potential Relatives, I am sure we have corresponded in the past concerning our Page lines. You have a lost James Alexander Page, I have a lost Alexander E Page, nickname, Joe Page...Alexander E. Page was born in KY in 1821 except his daughter lists him as being born in VA on later census records. You have Page's in Knox Co, ILL at the same time we find Alexander Page marrying in Knox Co, ILL, 1846. He resided there until 1869 when he moved to Jasper Co. MO. Around 1881-82 he sold the MO farm, arrived in Vancouver, Clark Co. WA around 1885. Sons of Alexander Page were all born in Knox Co, ILL, they are William E. Page, b.1859, John Thomas Page, b. 1861, Alonzo Newton Page, b. 1864, James Oscar Page, b. 1867, Alva Grant Page, b. 1869. There is a good possibility that all these son's came west in the 1880's. We really need a break with this line!!! Someone has to recognize us!!! Please read through your old records on your Page lines. Thank you kindly and Merry Christmas to all!!! Robert did extensive Page family research in the Carolinas and the South and prepared a two volume unbound book (fills two note books) called "Carolina Page's." <<SNIP>> -------- Would you be so kind as to look in the above reference for a Sarah PAGE born c1802 in GA according to the 1850 Jones Co, MS census. She was married to Henry WELCH and had 12 children: Samuel, Elizabeth, Bryant, Judy, Susanna, Sarah Ann, William H., Martha Jane (my GG-grandmother), Richard J., Nancy, Rachael Margaret, and Timothy Allen WELCH. Henry WELCH was born c1788 in Sumpter Co, SC. I don't think he went to GA, so I theorize that the PAGE family migrated to MS, because there were other PAGE families in Jones Co. who were approx. Sarah's age that could be her brothers. Sorry to say that is all I have--an approx. date and a state. Any clues you can give me will be greatly appreciated. RootsNut@aol.com Mary Chandler Waco, TX

    3. Hello, I am trying to find any information concerning a William Page. His wife was probably Nancy Cobb. In the birth record of Noah Cobb and his wife Elizabeth Walker Cobb, the name William C. Page is listed as being the seventh son of William Page. In Noah's will, a daughter was listed and Nancy Page. Noah and Elizabeth also had a son James. In James' will he states that he is living with his son-in-law and daughter. They were Zenith and Martha Page. Does anyone have any information on these two Page families? Thanks, Donna Price William C. Page was born the 20th da of June 1813 - seventh son of William Page
