Looking for descendants of Dominique Pagé. I know of 5 children by his first wife, Marie Villeneuve (1789-1820); none by his second wife, Palagie Baillarjean Vallé; and one by his third wife Henriette/Harriet Cardinal (1793-1839). The Page/Pagé line came from France to Quebec around 1646 and this branch migrated to Poste Vincennes (Indiana) around 1760. - Bob - Robert Evans Page "The man who doesn't read has no advantage over one who can't." Dennis Page, born 16 July 1855, place unknown, probably Pennsylvania, died 11 July 1900, Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas. He married 24 December 1894, Topeka, Kansas, to Laura Ellen (Tye) Offield, daughter of Ferdinand Metsor Tye and Delilah Hicks of Livingston County, Missouri. Her first husband was Thomas Jefferson Offield. They were divorced. They had two children, Oscar O. and Ophelia O. Dennis and Laura Ellen Page had one daughter, Fern M. Page, born September 1895. Nothing more known about this daughter; marriage records have been searched in Topeka but she would have married somewhere else. The widow, Laura Ellen, and probably her daughter, Fern M., and her daughter from her first marriage, Ophelia O. Offield and her husband, Herbert Fletcher, left Topeka about 1910. Am searching to find where this family went. Helen MacDonald
I grew up in Warren County, which is right down the road from Logan County. We were taught from grade school on about how Kentucky was a neutral border state. I have also come to learn over the years that the victors write the history books and others then come along and rewrite them. Side note: Bowling Green, Ky. was the capital of the Confederate States of America during the start of the War of Northern Aggression. :) It was the most defendable "major" city of the time due to its location on the Barren river and the slopes of the banks in that area, very steep. After a long battle (months long), the only reason it fell was due to the Confederate side losing 80% of its troops due to a plague and them pulling out. As far as being neutral, on Russelville road south of Bowling Green is an Octagon house. The house used to have a bunch of tunnels under it. Not only was it a major stop on the Underground Rail Road, but it was a haven of protect for anyone that needed it. It was reported that at one time their were Union soldiers hiding in one tunnel while Confederate soldiers were in another. > -----Original Message----- > From: PPWilcoxMS@cs.com [mailto:PPWilcoxMS@cs.com] > Sent: Friday, February 04, 2000 10:12 AM > To: PAGE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [PAGE] Which side was our kin on? > > > bpage@kimball.com (Bruce Page) wrote: > > >I am a descendent of the Pages of Login County, Kentucky. > "Preacher" Page > >was my grandfather's grandfather. > > >I have looked around a bit and asked my relatives, but no > one seems to know. > > >In the War of Southern Independence, did our kin fight on > the right side, > >the winning side, or were they neutral? > > Kentucky was "on the fence". I am a descendent of the Pages of Login County, Kentucky. "Preacher" Page was my grandfather's grandfather. I have looked around a bit and asked my relatives, but no one seems to know. In the War of Southern Independence, did our kin fight on the right side, the winning side, or were they neutral?

Hi Annabelle, So glad you posted. Another clue picked up on trying to sort out this family and that is the St. Clair COLLINS. Do you have further info on the COLLINS. I have no parents for Mary "Polly" COLLINS married to John PAGE. Going through my notes last night, there are a bunch of marriages between COLLINS and WARMOTH. I have no parents for any of the COLLINS. And of course, the WARMOTH connection is also with PAGE. Below you listed Mary Francis COLLINS as dau of James and Lucy BURTON COLLINS. Was Lucy's name BURTON or BARTON? I would be most interested in any insight anyone can add Thanks Linda In a message dated 2/2/00 5:21:28 AM, Annerupert writes: << Hello Linda, I think I have written to you before about this but St. Clair Page also has a connection on my family tree, just can't seem to pin point it exactly. My gggrandfather John Yelverton Sterne b. Mar 3, 1800 in Va, married as a first wife Mary Francis Collins b. June 22, 1806 in Orange VA.. Mary Francis Collins died Aug 1842 in Howard County. John Yelverton Sterne, St. Clair Page and Kimber Barton Sterne were appointed guardians of John's children at that time. Mary Francis Collins was the daughter of James Collins b. Feb 22, 1769 and Lucy Burton b. April 28, 1778. I believe James Collins and your Mary Polly Collins may have been siblings, though I don't have proof. My Mary Francis Collins had a brother named St. Clair Collins. There has to be a connection as that is why St. Clair Collins was appointed as guardian in 1842 for John. Thanks for the information, even though I did not ask the original question. I will fill in the data on my family history with additional data. I did have noted that St. Clair did commit suicide but did not have all the details. Annabelle Henderson Rupert >>
IN refernece to the statement below: Unless the law has been changed within the last several years, in Texas, when one spouse died, the other spouse always had to go to court 'n be appointed guardian of the minor children involved. I live in Texas, my husband died 6 years ago, my children were age 2 and 5. I did not have to do anything. But he had no will or even any life insurance. So maybe the lack of and "estate" might change things. But I do have to report to Social Security every year of any savings. Gail in Texas
Unless the law has been changed within the last several years, in Texas, when one spouse died, the other spouse always had to go to court 'n be appointed guardian of the minor children involved. He/she must keep an accurate accounting of the children's estate portion 'n present it to court each year. I don't know about Missouri laws, but it's possible they had a similar one. Rather shocking, isn't it to those of us who live in states where such a law doesn't exist. Actually, it's more fair as the one in the early days when a man died, his wife wasn't even to be considered as able to be their guardian, 'n some other man had to be appointed guardian of her minor children!!! This she wrote in pencil on a piece of brown paper bag!! She also kept "birth lists" and "death lists" with all the dates. Bless you, Grandma! Everyone should be so blessed with a family historian!!
