Dear Delores, I recently posted on the Sangamon Co, ILL site requesting assistance for an 1840 census look-up for Alexander Page. There has been no response yet. If anyone can do this look-up I would appreciate it, I am in Okinawa Japan and research from here is difficult. The Alexander Page in Franklin Co, we have ruled out. Can follow him in census records. Another Alexander Page has surfaced in a most interesting court case in Shelby Co, ILL in 1839 and does not appear in that county in the 1840 census. Can anyone claim him so we can rule him out also? To refresh memories on Alexander Page, he is also absent from the 1850 Knox Co, ILL census but his wife is Ruthy Ann Clark/Page is listed under her father, along with their youngest children. Thanks, Cathy Page Jennings Hi, Cathy, Could your Alexander PAGE have been the one in the following censuses in IL?? 1840 - Sangamon Co. Alexander PAGE - p. 48 Joseph PAGE - p. 65 1850 - Franklin Co. For what it might be worth....something to "chew" on.... I have a little more input into a "possibility" for the name of the husband of Mary Ann, b. ca. 1775....but it's just "food-for-thought". I'm wondering if the Jesse PAGE who is in the 1830 Census in Buckingham Co. may have died and Mary Ann was his widow. She shows up in the 1840 Census without a husband for the first time. In checking my readings of the Personal Property Tax Lists for that county, I find that Jesse PAGE was listed there the following years: 1817-1818 1820-1836 and not after that. A Jesse A. PAGE is listed in those lists only in 1848 and 1849, but was not there in either the 1840 or 1850 Censuses. It may be difficult to get further proof of Mary Ann's husband and ancestry because Buckingham Co. is one of what they call the "burned out counties" where many early records are missing. Another Jesse PAGE was listed in the 1830 Fluvanna Co., VA Census. His age was 40-50.

They were moving their church membership from a church most likely from the place of their last residence where there was a Baptist church in existence. Although Elder was used for ordained ministers, some historians list him as a deacon of the church. After much study, I am convinced although there are large number of Baptist PAGE ministers, he was not one, but may well have been a deacon. First Baptist Church of Woodruff, SC was previously called "Bethel Baptist" after 1798. After the Rev. War the church had gone down & was reorganized as the Baptist Church of Christ on Jamey's Creek. It maintained this name until 1798 when it was changed to "Bethel". Originally, it was known as an arm of FairForest at "Enoree". (Morgan Edward's "Materials for a History of the Baptist" refers to it as Enoree. It was organized by Fairforest in 1771 and William WOOD was ordained to pastor it in 1772. FairForest was organized from the line of "Separate Baptist" that joined with the "Regular Baptist" to form the "United Baptist" in Virginia in 1787 & in Southern Kentucky & Upper Cumberland of Tennessee in 1800. Some of both groups did not unite with the alliance. Notes: At this time Baptists, & some still do, used the appellation of "Elder" for the ordained minister. This would lead us to believe that Robert was an ordained minister but John Asplund in his "Universal Register for 1790,91,92, & 93 does not list a Robert PAGE as a minister with this church. In 1798 he and another member were designated to draw up a church constitution. Also that year, he is listed as a messenger under "other messengers to the association" in Townsend's "South Carolina Baptists". There is a separate column for ministers. %% Information on living people

Hi, Ann, In response to your post of 8 Feb on PAGE-L, I think that your Joseph PAGE is the one in the following record: J. PAGE & F. PUGH - marriage bond filed 29 Oct 1813 in Nelson Co., VA. The bondsman was Thomas PUGH This makes sense with one of James and Frances' children being named Thomas Percival PUGH. As for Joseph PAGE, I can't place him; but there was a Joseph PAGE listed in the following Personal Property Taxes: Albemarle Co. (right next to Nelson Co.) - 1814 Bedford Co. - 1815-1816 Nelson Co. - 1811 only (name right next to Edward Page) Caroline Co. - 1798-1803, 1810, 1812-13 Goochland Co. - various years from 1782 through 1791 The above are not necessarily yours, but are probably several different Joseph PAGE men. Just mentioned them to show you they were there. You might try looking in the Albemarle, Amherst and Nelson Co., VA records for your PAGE and PUGH ancestors. Dolores
David: Your Reuben Page appears as a laborer, age 25, on p. 103 of the 1850 Federal Census of Harris Twp., Centre Co., PA. Unfortunately there is no state of birth shown for him or his wife, Mary, age 22 or 23 (Its hard to read even magnified). I just learned my Great Grandfathers name was Arthur Page, from my uncle yesterday. I know this is very vague, but he was probably from Wimbledon/Shoreditch/London area in England. My grandfather Frederick Page was born in 1883 (siblings Eadie, Jack, and Florence), so I would assume that he was born in the mid 1800's. I am just going to throw this out and see if any of you have any knowledge of this family. Thank You Jody Speck Shoreline, Wa
I am searching for the siblings and ancestors of James Madison PAGE, born Feb. 28, 1818 in Greenville, SC. The next indication I have of him, he is in Lincoln Co., NC on the 1850 census. I have some information that between 1818 in SC and 1850 in NC, his family moved to North GA. Then he and his brother, Lemuel, born ca. 1812 (this birthdate was extracted from his Confederate States Certificate of Disability for Discharge) went to Lincoln Co. NC. James M. PAGE was in Lincoln Co., NC prior to Jan 26, 1841 because on that date he married Sophia Temples in Lincoln Co. They had moved to Cherokee Co. GA by the time of the 1860 census. The children of James Madison Page and Sophia Temples: 1. Juvnile Page - Bn Jan 14, 1844 - Married Elise E. Wilson in Forsyth Co. GA on 29 Dec 1879. Occupation "engineer" 2. Franklin M. Perry Page - Bn 28 Sept 1856 8. Miriah R. Page - Bn 8 Nov 1858 James M. Page married Sarah P. Smith on 26 March 1862. The children of James M. Page and Sarah P. Smith: 9. James Lafayette Page, Bn. 12 Nov, 1863 (My grandfather) 10. Jeremiah Page - Bn 16 (?) Oct, 1865 Most of the above information is from the family Bible. I was told that James M. Page knew a lot about Indian ways of healing and that people would come to him for herbal remedies. I would appreciate any information that you can share with me about this Page family. Sara Webster

Hi cousin Denise. I, also, am descended from Robert Page and Rachel Brockman, through their son, Robert Jr, who migrated to Hamilton Co, IL, and became the first Co Judge of Hamilton Co. I have written a book on the history of this family. It was published in 1992. Copies are still available. I have finished volume 2 on this family and am still working on the index. Hope to be finished this spring. Many people hve helped me in this effort. The two books have about 20,000 family ancesters and spouses. I am short on info on the descendants of Benjamin Franklin Page, son of James Nelson. I have data on other children, but not Benjamin. Since James Nelson was the third child, I can still add any info you might send me on your family line if you would like to see it included. I am now working on the ancestors of the spouses of Robert Sr and his 10 children, which includes Walker, Brockman, Lewis, Todd, Waller, Rhodes, Smith, Fleming, Collins, Robinson, Wyatt, Minor, Madison, Exoll (Axell), Johnson, etc. Don Page, nancy@digital.net -----Original Message----- From: Denise Stephens <neecybear@home.com> To: PAGE-L@rootsweb.com <PAGE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, February 08, 2000 5:53 PM Subject: [PAGE] Page Family - VA to SC >My Page line is as follows: >1. **Axilheath Page ca.1708-1710, died 1778 in VA > married Christian ? abt. 1724 in VA > (**This is speculation, no proof yet) >2.
