    1. Re: [PAGE] Page DNA Study
    2. The previous message about the Page DNA study was not from me, but from George W. Page: "George W. Page" <gwpage@erols.com> Somehow he managed to post this message with my university email id (wilcox.18@osu.edu) as the return address. (No, it was not really me talking about myself in the third person!) I'd prefer that email regarding this project be sent to George at the above email address, and/or to my permanent "email forwarding for life" account: "Patricia P. Wilcox" <pat.wilcox@alum.mit.edu. If you've already emailed my OSU account, don't worry -- your mail isn't lost, but I'm away from home this week and I haven't read it yet. --Pat Wilcox (Patricia Page Wilcox) In a message dated 04/06/2000 7:26:35 PM Eastern Daylight Time, wilcox.18@osu.edu [actually George W. Page!!!] writes: > Dear male Pages: > > "Patricia P. 1. [PAGE] Page DNA Study
    2. Patricia P. Wilcox
    3. Dear male Pages: "Patricia P. Wilcox" <wilcox.18@osu.edu> visited me today at my home in Maryland, and we discussed the following: She has found a lab in LA that will do the same sort of DNA (Y chromosome) study that was used to investigate the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings connection. This is brand new state-of-the-art stuff -- they apologized that it would take them about a month, while their routine tests have a 2-week turnaround. If you're interested in the DNA results, you can see a summary of the Jefferson data at http://wsrv.clas.virginia.edu/~rjh9u/jeffhemm.html The Jefferson study used about 21 separate markers on the Y chromosome. This lab in LA only looks at seven markers, all in the "Microsatellite STR" class. Ideally, we are suggesting looking at about 12 - 16 individual males named Page; with 2 or 3 each from various Page branches: Branford (CT) Page line, the Haverhill (MA) Page line, the Watertown (MA) Page line, the Dr. John Page (Brenda & Pat) line, the Robert Page of Ormsby, county Norfolk line; the Nicholas Page/Paige line, and the Col. John Page of VA line. By having 3 from each line we can positively identify the DNA markers for each line, which should be identical, except for an rare/isolated/odd mutation Each participant would have to provide a blood sample or a buccal swab (cells from lining of mouth), which could be collected at one of the local branches of this DNA testing outfit or at a local hospital or other medical lab, would be under custodial control, and would be sent by the local lab to New Orleans for testing. If we had 12 or more samples analyzed, they would give us a special cut rate of $300.00 each (eek!). This Y chromosome test of the different Page lines would establish the Page DNA markers for each line and whether or not any of them are descended from a common ancestor in England. Once each of these lines is identified, other male Pages could be tested to positively establish their ancestry in one of the early Page lines if that is the case. It would also tell us whether the Branford, Watertown, Virginia, and/or Haverhill, Ormsby Pages were from closely related lines back in England, and even give a possible idea about how many generations back there was a common ancestor. This all assumes that we have a really air-tight genealogical connection from father to son all the way from the 1600's to the present for all the individuals to be initially sampled. Only the direct male line will work. So, if you are a male Page from an established Page line and are interested in participating in such a test, please contact me or Pat Wilcox. George W. Hope to add some more of the younger generations as time permits. Viola A. HARVEY m. Luman Henry PAGE as follows : Generation No. 8 22. 3. There is a Page family association built around the descendants of Col. John Page of Virginia who immigrated c. 1650. Unless you can establish your ancestry back to this John Page, it would not be beneficial to you. It is far better to post your Page history in as much detail and as far back as possible on the Page list. Sometimes when search through CD-ROM disks etc., for the Surname Page it is helpful to do it by adding the Soundex Code for Page. Enter Page and P200 and you won't get every reference to a page number. Regards, George W. 3. Good to hear from someone researching in England. My PAGE ancestors came from not too far away from Great Yarmouth... From Suffolk (Mendham, So. Elmham, Bungay area). Most of them came to Canada in 1836-1840, and those that remained were mainly women who married into other families (Baker, Butcher and Atherton etc.) so I don't have close relatives left in Suffolk or Norfolk, but I will pass on any information I come across. Although I seldom see PAGE research from outside the United States on this list, I can't help but think that there must be a lot of people out there researching PAGEs in England. My guess is that they are just shy to post. 3. An excellent source of information is Early Canadiana Online (http:\www.canadiana.org) It contains scanned pages of many original early Canadian documents. Among them I found this: History of the Eastern Townships, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada C. M. Day (Montreal: J. Lovell, 1869) on Page 261 is a list of the founders of Bolton Township, and among the many names are Jeremiah Page, Samuel Page, Benjamin Page and Roger Hibbard. Which brings me to my problem. About 3 years ago Roger Chatell of Rhode Island posted queries about a Benjamin PAGE who was married to Elizabeth HIBBARD and who died in St. Gabriel-de-Brandon in 1860. Being interested in the PAGE surname I wrote him and said I would keep my eyes open for more info on Benjamin Pages. Now I have found Benjamin PAGE and a HIBBARD on the same document, and he has changed his e-mail, so I can not reach him anymore. If anyone out there knows Roger's new e-mail address, please pass this on. If anyone has information about the descendants of any of the PAGE families in Bolton Township, please send that to me. 3. Thanks, those of you who have posted such kind things to me about the new list web page! Within the next few days, I will be putting the url for it in the tagline for the list posts, and in the introduction to each digest (the tagline is the line of text that appears at the very bottom of each post to the list - it does not show up in the digest). From the website, you can now 1) check RootsWeb Resources for the surname (including the list archives and GenConnect Boards), 2) unsub and resub, 3) go to my home page for the urls you need for your research (those were put there because folks kept asking for them), and 4) send me an e-mail, if you need help. I will try to add other things as time permits. If you think of something that would be helpful to include, and is not already on either the RootsWeb Resource page or my home page, please post to me. A few questions have arisen, which I will try to answer: 1) No, you do not have to subscribe again to use the list website - if you got the post about it, you are already on the list. 2) I know that we need to submit the site to search engines, and if you know how to do that, anything can do to help will be super. We need for the search engines to find us so that more cousins will know about the list - they may have the very piece of information that will help us get past that brick wall. That is the whole reason for the website - so that cousins will have a better chance of finding us. 3) No, I can not add links to all cousins' web pages at once, but there is already an easy place for you to add your urls at the RootsWeb Resource page. There is one place near the top for you to add it if your site is at RootsWeb, and there is another place further down the page (entitled General Links and Search Engines) for you to add your url if your site is housed somewhere other than RootsWeb. Be sure to include information about the contents of your site as it relates to this surname, in the space provided, sop that we will all know to come visit you! 4) I may soon be adding a link to the list web page that will lead to the searchable archives for the list - this link is already on the Resource Page at RootsWeb, as are the links for the threaded archives and the GenConnect Boards for the surname. Any suggestions will, as always, be much appreciated! 1. [PAGE] Aaron , Nathan , and John Page of Epping/Exeter
    2. kevin and rika
    3. Would anyone have any information about the families and children of John , Aaron , and Nathan Page of the Exeter/Epping area of Rockland county in NH? I am hoping one of them might be the father of Charles Page , born about 1820, who has resisted all efforts to uncover his family. Charles lived the Exeter/Epping area , married Lucy Tilton in 1843 , and died in the Civil War in Virginia in 1864. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo , Kevin

    3. Cousins, I have put up a barebones web page for our list at http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/lists/PAGE.htm - hopefully, it will be picked up by search engines and help new cousins find us.
