1. [PAGE] Two John PAGEs of Goochland Co., VA
2. Dolores C. Rutherford
3. Hi, It has come to my attention that there has been some controversy over the parentage of two of the early John PAGEs in Goochland Co., VA: John PAGE who md. Unity HARRIS on 14 Nov 1756 John PAGE who md. Eadith CAUTHAN on 31 Oct 1761 Preparatory to putting forth the suggested lineages in my series of posts on the Goochland Co., VA PAGE families, I prepared a four-page comparison of the records of these two John PAGEs and will be happy to send copies of these pages to anyone interested. However, due to my cramped genealogy budget, I will have to ask that you send $1.00 to cover the cost of copying and postage to send if you want them. Dolores C. 1. [PAGE] PAGE family mix ups
2. Carol Lawrence
3. Hello All, As yet I haven't sent in my own PAGE ancestors because I have yet to prove my ggg grandfather William Page b in the mid 1700 probably in Surrey,England. There was a belief in the family that we were descended from the PAGE family of Wembley/ Harrow. My cousin did research this but I believe he made a mistake in assuming that our William was the son of Richard PAGE of Harrow 1702-1771 and his wife Anne HERNE. This is also where I believe other families have gone wrong in their searches. This Richard did have a brother Robert 1703-dead before 1724. Some trees seem to mix up Richard and Robert. The IGI shows that Richard and Ann had seven children. Research by another person shows that they only had one child a daughter Anne 1738-1790, and that he had a second wife a cousin Susanna Newman and that they had five children. The only one that married being the youngest Henry 1758-1829 who married a Mary LOTT there were no children. This PAGE family is well documented from John PAGE 1466-1543 up until Richard 1702-1771 when the trail gets murky. The family were from 1571 Governors of Harrow School and a family of note until the death of Henry 1758-1829. I haven't yet been able to trace any descendants from siblings of the family further back. I would like to link up with any of you that have more solid evidence of just who is descended from this PAGE family. Also if any of you have PAGE ancestors from Surrey,England I would be interested if we could link up. Sorry if this is a bit long winded. Many thanks [email protected]

3. As a serious Page family researcher for many years, I should like to add a few comments concerning the Robert Page - Susannah Syckerling line although it is nor my line! The best source document about Robert and Susan (Syckerling) Page being the parents of the John Page who m. Phoebe Paine is an article by G. Andrews Moriarty, A.M., LL.B., F.A.S.G.; & F.S.A. who was a member of the New England, "Genealogical Research in England" that contained excerpts of the parish records of marriages, baptisms, and burials of Boxted, county Essex, found on pp. 42-43 of "English Origins of New England Families," Vol. 3, First Series (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1984), pp. 42-45. Originally John Page was thought to have come from Dedham, Essex (and adjoining parish of Boxted) because of the letter by Governor Winthrop written back to Rev. John Rogers the famous preacher of Dedham, Essex about the latter half of 1631: "But this day I have received so lamentable a letter from one John Page, late of Dedham, that his wife and two children ...'' [Savages's Winthrop, ed. 1853, Vol. 1, pp. 56, 65]. An examination some years ago showed that there were some Pages in Dedham, but no John Page. However he was found in the adjoining parish of Boxted, Essex, England. If you are still not convinced that John Page was not the John Page who was a son of Richard Page, of Wembley, and his wife Frances Mudge, consider that fact that John and Phoebe Page did NOT name any of their children Richard or Frances. In fact these names do NOT appear as a given name in their line of Page descendants until a Frances shows up four generations later. In his article "Genealogical Research in England, the baptism records cited concerning the baptism on 25 Sept. 1586 of the John Page of Watertown, MA who m. Phoebe Paine on 5 June 1621 in Lavenham, county Suffolk, Eng. (not in Boxted as is commonly supposed!), show him to be the son of Robert and Susan (Syckering) Page of Boxted, Essex, England, thereby refuting the association of this John Page to be the supposed son of Richard Page (born 1567 in Wembley, Middlesex, England) by his first wife Anne (or any other Pages of that county) shown by Charles Nash Page in his book and Chart #1 that he did in 1917. Although Charles Nash Page did some magnificent research in England, I believe he was trying to lay the ground work for a legal case that he was an heir to the Page fortune in the Wembley area of London that he wrote about in his book. He may have also just copied the info from Luke Joslin Page's genealogy book of 1887! As a matter of interest, Moriarty's article with baptism, marriage, and burial excerpts contains much more info than does the web site: 1. Robert Page was b. 1558-50, and buried 13 Nov. 1605; 2. Susanna Syckerling was bapt. 25 Apr. 1566; 3. William Sickerlyn and Anne Rulle were m. 13 Oct. 1559; 4. William Syckerling was buried 27 Apr. 1599 ae "about 100 years" 5. Robert Page was buried 13 Nov. 1605 6. William Syckerling was of the yeoman class; 7. The will of Robert Page written 4 Nov. 1605; 8. The birth order and baptism dates of Robert and Susannah Page's children were: i. John Page, baptized 25 Sept. 1586; ii. Hannah Page, baptized 29 Mar. 1590; iii. Susan Page, baptized 25 Jan. 1592/3; iv. Anne, baptized 17 Jan. 1596/7; v. Christopher, baptized 17 June 1599; vi. Joan, baptized 18 Oct. 1601. 9. John Page and Phoebe Paine were married 5 June 1621 in Lavenham, county Suffolk,Eng. (not in Boxted as is commonly supposed!) 10. She was the dau. of William Paine of Lavenham.[See also NEHG Register, Vol. 69, July 1915, p. 252.] George W. 2. Brian C.Page
3. As a descendent of Deacon Robert PAGE through his widowed daughter Margaret(PAGE)Moulton and her second husband John Sanborn Sr. and a double descendent of John PAGE through his sons Benjamin and Cornelius.(Benjamin married 1666 Mary Whittier,Cornelius married in 1674 Martha Clough.)I have watched the discussion of these two families with some interest. There have been MANY mistakes made over the years regarding descendents of these two PAGE families and in some cases the complete exclusion of some whole descendant lines. I am sure however, that as the research says,John of Haverhill was NOT the son of Deacon Robert of Ormsby St.Margaret and Hampton. I would love to have this idea of false or erroneous genealogies of the PAGE families cleared up once and for all. I have seen at least one that misidentifies my 2 great grandfather's family and have seen other such errors involving his descendents Brian C.Page

2. Hi, Barb, another John and Pheobe cousin here - and am wondering if you know what the resources are for the website of "Robert" descendants. So far as I know there is no documentation for that, so it would be good to know if there really is some after all these years, and where to find it! Luke Joslin Page, in his 1887 genealogy calls John a son of Richard, of Wembly, and his wife Frances Mudge. If he is correct, our John would not be of this line at all. LJP seems to have done his English research, but certainly other evidence may have come to light since he did it! Also, he has Jonathan's wife as HAGAR and not HAGAN. My own line continues w/ Jonathan's son Joseph. The family moved from Watertown, MA>Groton, MA>Rindge, NH>son Lemuel to Keene and Surrey, NH and 3 of his sons to northern VT, where many of that particular line have been ever since. Good hunting! 2. Hi Charles, You should definitely take a look at this website: Family Tree Maker's Genealogy Site: User Home Page Genealogy Report: Descendants of Robert Page <http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/o/m/Tom--Bombaci-jr/GENE5-0001.html>, since it has your Robert and Susan (Susanna) Page. This is not my site, but it is my Page line, too. I'm descended from Robert and Susanna through: John and Phebe (Paine) John and Faith (Dunster) Samuel and Martha (?) Thomas and second wife Mary (Knight) Levi and second wife Tamer (Gale) William and Sophia Candace (Stevens) George Stevens Page and Delilla Blinn (Horn) Blinn Stevens Page and Minnie Carlotta (Splane) Carlotta Anne Page and Allan John Spilner (my parents) If you look on the Generation 3 page, you'll see your Jonathan's wife listed as Mary Hagan. 1. [PAGE] Captain Page of Maine
2. Christie Seifer
3. I am looking for information on a Captain Page who was married to Mary Travis. He was killed when an Indian came to his door. His wife and daughter, Mary went back to Massachusetts where she was from. Mary Travis then married second to Nathaniel Martin. Mary's daughter Mary Page married John Todd of Massachusetts. The marriage records say she was married under the name Mary Martin. Mary and John Todd moved to St. Albans, Vermont. Mary had a half brother, Simeon Martin and a half sister who married a Captain Rae. So far, I cannot find any information on Captain Page, but he would have been born in the early 1700's and only had one child. Thank You Christie [email protected]
