I am having great difficulty with this family and I'm hoping someone can help me. I am searching for descendants of Isaac Page born 1834 in Hillington Norfolk, son of James and Martha Page. He went to the mines in Yorkshire somewhere between the 1861 and 1871 census' and married Mary Elizabeth Theaker October 14, 1866 in Hinderwell, Yorkshire. They had several children: John 1868, Isaac 1872 (he was a missionary for the Inland China Missions and he died childless in Ontario, Canada), Martha Hannah 1874, William 1875, Sarah A. 1877 and Harry 1879. If anyone has information on anyone in this family, I'd appreciate hearing from you. (I have information from the 1881 census on Isaac's family.) Is there an 1891 census that they may be on? Martha is my line. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Shirley Lyster Alberta, Canada

Dear fellow PAGE listers I got up this morning in snowy Peterborough (all of half an inch of snow) and saw a reply to a note that I sent to George in response to one that he had posted on the list. His cheery words brought a smile to my sleep induced haze. I thought nothing of the words he used and I certainly took no offence. Then I saw the note from D Cuillard and I couldn't believe my eyes. I am sorry D Cuillard if the phrase George used to me caused you offence. But if you are doing genealogical research you should be prepared to find some very rude words indeed in the historical documents that you will come across. And, if you haven't already joined other lists, allow me to say that you are likely to find that some of them have very fierce arguments, with much personal animosity. This is a very tame list. Now let me say something about George. In the time that I have been on this list (some 18 months) I have found him an extremely knowledgeable researcher of all things PAGE. He has tracked down original sources and shared them with the list. He has helped people put together their family lines. And as far as I know he has done all this freely and without thought that his own research would be helped. I have never met him personally, nor even talked with him by phone. I guess there is a faint possibility that we might be related(!) but, without the DNA tests, I don't know. However, as far as I am concerned, George is an OK guy. Best wishes to all of you statesiders on this inauguration eve. Michael (Peterborough, Cambs, UK)

As announced previously, Oxford Ancestors now have a Y chromosome testing system that we previously discussed on this website! They have apparently abandoned the "Male Match" scheme for something that looks even better. The price of $150 seems reasonable, and we have over 20 male PAGEs of many different PAGE lines who want to participate. We need a male PAGE who is a direct descendant of John Page of Haverhill, MA to also participate to establish the baseline markers for that line. He was b. Feb. 6, 1513/14 and d. on 23 Nov. 1687 in Haverhill, Essex Co., MA. He was m. to Mary Marsh, the dau, of George Marsh and Elizabeth Key. We also need a male PAGE descendant of John and Phoebe (Payne) Page, from Dedham, Essex, Eng. who came to New England with the Winthrop Fleet of 1630. He d. 18 Dec. 1676, aged about 90. George W. As announced previously, Oxford Ancestors now have a Y chromosome testing system that we previously discussed on this website! They have apparently abandoned the "Male Match" scheme for something that looks even better. The prices seem reasonable, and we have the following named male PAGEs who have agreed to participate for whom I have postal mail addresses. If I have overlooked anyone, please contact me ASAP, and send me your postal address. 1. George W. Page, of the George Page of Branford, CT (c. 1662); 2. Cecil Wray Page, of the John Page of Williamson,Virginia (c. 1650); 3. & 4. John W. Page and Bob Page who trace their ancestry to Axelheath Page of VA; 5. James F. Page from the Page line of Dr. John Page of Farmington, CT; 6. Clarence Page from the Page line of Dr. John Page of Farmington, CT; 7. Ronald W. Page of the line of Christopher Page/Paige, born 1796 (if age 65 in 1860 census LaCrosse Co, WI) in NY (if state listed is correct); 8. Michael Page from Cambridgeshire, Eng.; 9. Donald W. Page of the line of Robert Page (m. Rachel Brockman) of Goochland Co., VA; 10. Bob Page of the Robert Page of Ormesby, co. Norfolk; 11. Warren Edward Page III of a North Carolina line of PAGEs that may have come from VA; 12. Robert Page- of 1600s Rotherhithe area origin, S.E. London, UK; 13. Mathew A. Page possibly a descendant of Joseph Page Sr. of Monmouth Co, NJ; 14. Ralph Page of Simi Valley, CA from an unknown line; 15. Mike Page of Alberta, Canada descended from a William F Page who married a Delilah Moore in Bourbon County KY Dec 1813; 16. Robert Page of Kingwood, TX If you are a male with the last name of Page acquired by birth (NOT adoption) you may want to participate in the DNA test to help us determine and sort out the various Page lines of descent. The details of the test are explained on the Oxford Ancestors website: http://www.oxfordancestors.com/ Oxford Ancestors has been contacted to verify if they will honor their reduced fee for over ten participants; but they have not responded. Step 1. IF and WHEN they do so, I'll submit the addresses of the people listed above plus additional names and addresses that I receive before transmitting the list. Step 2. You will receive in the mail a DNA sampling kit. This contains the small brush used to collect cells from your inner cheek easily and painlessly. Step 3. Return the DNA brush with your payment cheque. It will not be banked until your results have been mailed back to you. Expect delivery within 28 days of our receipt of your sample. Step 4. Oxford Ancestors states they will not use your DNA for any other purpose than the tests you have requested. Your results will be disclosed only to you, and your DNA will be destroyed after the results have been posted back to you. Step 5. We will of course want to share the DNA results (marker numbers) with each other to help us sort out the various Page family lines both in America and abroad. Please contact me ASAP if you are a Male with the birth name of Page and are interested so that we can order together at a reduced cost. I will try and get a commitment from Oxford Ancestors to honor the same price ($150) for additional PAGE surnamed individuals in the future, but first they have to communicate more than just an acknowledgement E-mail. Haston, My PAGE ancestors ended up in Alabama and Texas as well....pre-Civil War. I would like to honor them today by proudly celebrating Martin Luther King Day, and celebrating my PAGE ancestors' participation in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. I would further like to thank my PAGE ancestors for teaching me that a cause fought valiantly 140 years ago, is not necessarily a cause worth fighting for. It is always best to acknowledge the wrongs of the past, correct them and move on. That is what has made me proud to be a PAGE. I'll make a few statements: I am a senior citizen, born in CT and lived most of my life in the South--I don't remember my birth state. I did see the last Civil War veteran before he died. He was a Confederate and was a combatant. Our group of children spent a few hours with him. He never once mentioned the word "Yank" or otherwise bad-mouthed them. I'm also retired military and had friends that were in the worst of WWII. One was a Bataan Death March survivor and he never once mentioned it or did I ever hear him espouse anything on the Japanese. The only thing I remember him telling me that he was going to leave everything to his nephew who was a Viet Nam POW--and he did say that the nephew went through hell--he never mentioned his hell. I live in TN and our present governor was born in Illinois and also the previous mayor of Nashville was born in Upstate NY. The former Gov. of Texas and new President was born in New Haven, CT. I feel that most have gotten over the Civil War and moved on. thanks, Charles
