I'd love to hear whether there was an obituary published, and whether it names his parents or siblings. William Smith died in Carroll County, IL, and his obituary does not mention his parents or siblings. <> I believe that William was born in Vermont and that George was born in Pennsylvania. I come through Hannah and Elizabeth's older sister Susan, who married Jacob B. Shirk. Thanks! 1. Re: [PAFRANKL] Old Obituary Lookup?
    2. Thanks Hartmans! Unfortunately, I fear I'm the victim of my own bad information on this one. I was given that Vermont birth location for William Smith by a guy who said it was written in a family Bible, but I learned subsequently (after I submitted it to you guys) that it is bogus -- my William R. Smith who married Elizabeth Stouffer was NOT born in Vermont. So that bad info needs to come out of the database when your next opportunity comes up. And boy do I feel bad about having perpetuated bad info! I'm so sorry. The 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses all show William R. Smith born in Pennsylvania about 1814. 1880 indicates his parents were also born in Pennsylvania. George Smith's census data is exactly the same, except he was born about 1817 (I think the Price book shows the exact date for him). So it is entirely likely they were brothers -- but who were their parents? Thanks -- you guys are providing a wonderful service with your web site! Don Donald L.
