Joan, Ahhh, I did not say it was copyrightable, I said it *may be* copyrightable -- *if* it met the originality standards under US copyright law -- and that's a pretty big "if." (Other country's laws, of course, may have an easier copyrightability standard to meet, but the US has a fairly low standard of originality, internationally speaking). Certain online entities who shall remain nameless have claimed copyright in such images; as far as I know, no court has ruled on the issue. I, too, have a hard time envisioning the claim surviving if it were challenged, but never say never...at least until some case-specific facts are in front of you. The more automated the technology that "cleans up" the image, the less likely the copyright claim would be to survive, of course. Claire K.
