Sent: Monday, October 26, 2009 11:45 AM Subject: Re: [PAFRANKL] Presbyterian Church records Lee Ann: As I mentioned earlier directly to you, my books were on loan to a friend, however she did a look up and below is what she found:, as you can see she also looked into the 1766 Religious Census of Ireland, this means probably your Stitt's came from Londonderry County and specifically from Magherafelt Parish in the Armagh Diocese and that he was a Dissenter - that means he was a Presbyterian Convenanter and that he dissented from the Catholic Church and also the Church of Ireland. Rebecca also found land warrants in my books which are listed below. You will note that she found Stitt's in other paces in N. Ireland, however if the Scottish naming tradition first son is named after his father, so this could be a father and son listing. Off hand I can't think of anyway of pining it down as the 1766 Census exists only in fragments as the originals were burned in the 1921 Four Courts Fires in Dublin.
