    2. --Barbara: I understand there was a Hessian prison camp in Frederick, Md. however thats all I know about it. I can check a specific name on the list of Soldiers of the American Revolution. There are a lot of German names as they were the second largest group of soldiers in Washington's Army after the Ulsterscots, however the S A R disc that I have does not tell you the nationality of the soldier. Yes it is well known that quite a few of the Hessians elected to say here and not return to Germany.. Off hand I don't know anyone who has specific information on the subject, you could try posting a mssage on the MDFRED web site. I understand there were quite a few who were turned loose after the Revolution and stayed in the Franklin Co area. I have been unable to find the names of these soldiers.
