    1. [PAFRANKL] Re: THOMSON/McCLELLAND and GRIER/GREER family history
    2. Hello, I am researching the THOMSON surname, my mother's maiden name, and have an LDS microfiche source #6018156, titled <<"FAMILY AND DESCENDANTS OF ALEXANDER AND ELIZABETH THOMSON, By Andrew Watson Pentland, Abt. 1902-1903>>. This is a 44 pp. typescript copied from an original 100 pp. manuscript that tells of this couple's move to America, ca. 1771 from Scotland. My 2nd Gr-gf, James THOMSON, b.1772, Franklin Co., PA, d. ca. 1845-48, Ross Twp., Allegheny Co., PA was this couple's 14th child. According to this source, child#4, Alexander THOMSON, b. 1754, County of Renfrew, Scotland, married a Mary GRIER/GREER (have seen it spelled both ways). Mary was a "relative of Justice Robert C. GRIER, of the Supreme Court". This couple "purchased a farm in East Liberty, near PIttsburgh, PA", ca. 1802, and had four children: 1.) <<"Thomas THOMSON, married to Elizabeth SNYDER, reside in Pittsburgh; 2.) Alexander THOMSON, married to Mary BARLEEN, removed to Painesville, OH; 3.) Mary THOMSON, married to Jacob ROUP, East Liberty, and 4.) Elizabeth THOMSON, married to John LEFEVRE, reside in Ripley, OH.">> The McCLELLAND connection with my line of THOMSON is through child #15, Jane THOMSON b. 1776, Franklin Co., PA whose second married was to an Andrew McCLELLAN(D). Issue of this marriage were: 1.) Euphemia McCLELLAN(D), married to Amos CAMP, of Springfield, IL; 2.) Malvina McCLELLAN(D), married to Mr. WOOD, Chicago, IL; 3.) Edmundson McCLELLAN(D), married to Judith SUIDER; and 4.) Jane McCLELLAN(D), married to William ELLIS, Springfield, IL.">> Would like to compare notes if there is a connection with your lines. I saw from a posting on the Franklin County site that you are researching the McCLELLAND and GREER families. I am also researching these surnames in Mifflin, Juniata and Franklin Counties, and wondered if there may be a connection. I am descended from John McCLELLAND and Catherine BUCHANAN, originally of Franklin. They had Joseph, Daniel, John Jr.(b. abt. 1851), Nancy and another daughter whose name escapes me! They settled in what is now Milford Township in Juniata County in 1755. John Jr. married Elizabeth MARTIN, and they had one child, a daughter, Priscilla, before John died during the Revolution. Priscilla married David GRIER/GREER, a weaver in Milford Twp. They had four children, including John McClelland GRIER, my g-g-g-grandfather, born in 1814. He moved east, married Catherine JONES of Reading, Pa., and raised a family of 5. I'm looking forward to your reply. >>
