I wish to suggest (as I have to some folks before) that the most urgent historical project in Franklin County is to microfilm (or maybe digitize?) all those old, crumbling newspapers at The Old Jail, while there is still something to preserve. The nineteenth century newspapers are stored in little or no temperature or humidity control. Some have even vanished since the were indexed years ago. Is there any enthusiasm out there to preserve this treasure before it's too late? The State Government and other sources frequently finance such efforts. Richard R. Weber
