Well, I've been faithfully reading the mailings as they come in, hoping that (a) I'll be able to be helpful to someone else or (b) that someone else will ask something related to my folks. Not much luck on either side so far, so I guess it's time to ask my own question! My grandfather, Luther C. Gelwicks, was born in Franklin County Sept. 18, 1853. He ran away from home as a teenager and eventually settled in Delta County, Colorado--but that's another story. His father was Charles Gelwicks b. ca. 1812, his mother was Mary E. (probably for Elizabeth) Couts, born ca. 1825. Charles' father was probably named Daniel. One of Luther's sisters was named Charlotte, b. ca. 1848; she married McCauley Zimmerman in 1870 and they had three children: Cornelia, Gracie, and Guy. I think the family continued to live in Franklin County into the 20th century, probably in Sylvan in Warren Twp. Charles was a farmer, in Guilford Twp. in 1850 and in Warren Twp. in 1860. There was also a daughter named Eleanor, b. ca. 1850, and a daughter Anna, b. ca. 1858. Any of this ring any bells with anybody out there? Gelwicks and Couts are also spelled Gelwix and Koutz, not to mention all the possible misspellings. For all who've read this far, thanks! Judy Hall
