There was a large amusement park located on top of the mountain. One of my distant Shockey cousins tells stories of going there as a young man. One of the stories he tells is about how the railroad came in and moved it all out in the middle of the night. My 5th great grandfather John Christopher Shockey (Johann Christoffel Schacke) owned 1820 acres of the valley south of the mountain. The land was called the 3rd Resurvey of Sarah's Delight. The Mason - Dixon line went right by his house and they tell in their journals of the stay with "Stoffel" Shockey. Also near the location of the amusement park were located the Valentine Shockey caves. The view from the lookout is fantastic.
