Most were indentured when they turned 21. The females however were more adoptable, and as you can see not too many females in the Orphanage. When familles came to adopt or to see the children, they had too stand in a row and each child had to perform a song or a poem. At Christmas time the children would get a treat from the local girls colleges, they would walk to the college and each child would get an orange or a piece of fruit, then they would go to the other Girls College and they would get a piece of candy. When they would get too play outside they would sometimes get to watch the funerals that took place from across the way (cemetery) because they did not know any better they would play a made up game called ashes too ashes. This information was taken from a child that was in this Orphanage in 1920. Hope this info can help others.
