    1. [PAFRANKL] Steele/Steel--Henderson-Pyle/Pile-Dunn-McGinley-Leonard
    2. In Antrium (probably spelled wrong-Antrim) Township, 1850 census I find John Steel 39, wife Jane 38, Robert 13, James 4 and Rachel 15. They are on page 460, house # 375. I believe that this could be a brother to my James M. Steele, b about 1805 in Pa. This James M. Steele lived in Wilkins Twp. Allegheny Co., Pa in 1850 with his wife Lydia Leonard. My reason for believing that this John is the brother of my James is that in 1880 and 1900 census' for Whitley County, Union Township, Indiana---which is where my James M. Steele and wife Lydia migrated to, there was a nephew named James A. Steele living with them who was also born in Pa. We found a death certificate for this James Allen Steele and he stated that his father was John Steele, born Pa and his mother was Jane Henderson also b in Pa. After scanning what seems like thousands of census records, this listing in Franklin County looks like the only promising lead. Next to the family of John Steel and wife Jane in Franklin County is a William Henderson b abt. 1777 and his wife Elizabeth b abt. 1780. Another odd thing is that my James M. Steele b abt. 1805 named a son Zebulon Parke Steele. There is a Zebulon Park buried in the same area and he was born abt 1810 in Pennsylvania. His wife's name was Charlotte. I found this Zebulon Park in the 1850 census for Plum Township, Allegheny Co. Pa. Somehow I think he has to be "family". Why else would someone name a son after him? He seemed to have made the move to Indiana at about the same time as my James M. Steele family did. The mother of Lydia Leonard who married James M. Steele was living with them in Indiana. It appears she may have moved there with them between 1850 and 1854. Her name was Mary C. Leonard and she was born 8/12/1777. As best we can tell, James M. Steele married Lydia Leonard before 1834. Lydia Leonard Steele was born 2/14/1814 in Pa. Now, to complicate things further, Robert Steele b abt. 1838 seems to have returned to his roots and married a Sarah Pyle/Pile abt. 1861. He joined Union forces in the Civil War---and he joined in Maryland. Death certificate for Sarah J. Steele says that she was b 4/28/1843 to John Piles b Pa and ________ Dunn, b Pa. Now, after all of that, does anyone out there have anything that would help me confirm what I think. Ha!! One other note of interest. It appears that when they moved to Indiana that they may have gone with a Michael McGinley. His sister, Marie McGinley who married a Robert Armstrong went too. She was a widow at the time of the move. In 1850 Michael McGinley and his sister Marie McGinley Armstrong lived in Derry Twp., Westmoreland County, Pa. Vicky
