I am searching for information on the John Shrader family. From 1850 until the late 1890s most of the family seem to have lived in Peters Twp. John and Abigail Shrader had seven children: John (abt 1836); Edward S. (1841-1905); William (b. abt 1842); Laura Shrader (b. abt 1844) married Jacob Heninger c. 1869; Joseph (b. abt 1846 - d. 1872) married Emma? prior to Aug 1870; Emily (b. abt 1849); George (b. abt 1854). Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated and very Welcome. I believe the family of Jacob and Laura Heninger moved to Ohio, Regards, Constance

ALL I have procured a copy of the 1868 map of franklin county with an index. There are many names that do not appear on the street maps or in the index. Was this map created by subscription ????? thanks Jim
As I was walking in Green Hill Cemetery today I came across a headstone with no dates, only names. I don't think this person is in my line, but it was strange and I thought I'd do some searches. Ellis Baer and his wife Pearl have an old fashioned square headstone (ca 1920's or 30's) but are on the headstone together. The full transcription is as follows: Ellis C. Baer and wife Pearl V. Baer I've done census searches, but haven't found them. Does anyone have them in their line? I'm just curious. Beth Ann
This was sent to me by a friend and It very interesting Gordon Crooks click on link Dear Everyone, I thought you might enjoy reading this article that was found on one of the other genealogy email lists I belong to: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/scots-breakthrough-in-helping-families-go-back-to-their-roots-1.1039443 This is fascinating and another way to trace ancestry. It will be exciting to check the progress of the research. Jeanette Daniels Heritage Genealogical College
I am searching for information on Edward S. Shrader, b. Sept 1841, Peters, Franklin Co., PA. I believe he is the son of John and Lucy Abigail Shrader, but I have no record to document this. In 1850 Edward (age 10) is living with whom I believe is his parents (John and Abigail Shrader) and five siblings, in Peter's Twp., Franklin Co. In 1860 Edward was living with the Edward and Christina Hays family in Montgomery, Franklin Co., PA. In 1865 Edward Shrader married the second daughter of Edward and Christina Hays, Laura. My question is ... Does any one on the list have a connection to the John and Abigail Shrader family, that could point me in the direction of proper documentation of the parentage of Edward and his ancestry? My Best To You, Constance
Paul: As you know I have researched the lives and burials of Alies (Alice) Crooks and Ann Moorehead. Alies was my 8th removed grandmother and she was born in 1700 and died in 1775, Ann Moorehead died in 1773, also at age 75. Were these two women sisters? I am unable to prove it. and yet Ann was the first burial in the family plot at Moss Spring, there has to be a family connection or she would have never been allowed to be buried in the family plot. I have tried for two years to trace Alies marriage to John Crooks and any children's baptism. There exists ONLY in the Presbyterian Historical Society in Belfast, N. Ireland fragments for a 1700 church record for Ahoghill Parish. As a courtesy to me the head librarian herself searched the records for two names Crooks and Moorehead neither was found. These are the ONLY existing records of any Presbyterian Church for this period of time 1690-1750 in County Antrim. Thus ends my research as there is nothing further that I can do. As I have said before I traced the Moorehead, Crooks, Beatty's, McClure's, and Dunwoodies to the Ahoghill area in 1669-69 Poll Tax Rolls, they are all gone in the 1741 Protestant Householders list for County Antrim and all were found to be living in Franklin Co., Pa.. I am convinced that they knew and inter-married for generation both in Ireland and also in Pennsylvania. Likewise when in 1790 those who served in the war took their allotments in Westmoreland Co., Pa. again living in close proximity as they did in Franklin Co. While I have not looked closely at my Gordon and Beatty relationships (there are none for Johnston that I know of), these Shady Grove (Not Sugar Grove) families were again only a few miles from the others and all belonged to the same Presbyterian Church, so they knew each other etc. Here is an example of what I mean by these relationships. The Waynesboro Militia formed after the end of the war contains just about every known cousin, uncle, father and sons or sons, I estimate that 25% of the entire company is related to me from Capt. John Wallace on down. I have been a strong believer since early research years ago that these families stuck together no matter what from the earliest of times, probably as a matter of self preservation and support Gordon Crooks P S The Chambersburg Police caught the two kids who did damage at Falling Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery - good for them ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul" <geneo@paul-n-paul.com> To: <PAFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 05, 2010 7:30 PM Subject: [PAFRANKL] Moorhead & Other Families in Franklin, Cumberland,Westmoreland, Indiana Co., PA > I have prepared a several-page note as to where I believe in Northern > Ireland, and previously in Scotland, the families of immigrants John > Moorhead (Washington Twp, Franklin Co, PA) and Samuel Moorhead (Hamilton > Twp, Franklin Co, PA) likely immigrated from. I have prepared a several-page note as to where I believe in Northern Ireland, and previously in Scotland, the families of immigrants John Moorhead (Washington Twp, Franklin Co, PA) and Samuel Moorhead (Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, PA) likely immigrated from. Both of these families were formerly in Cumberland County and Lancaster County before the counties were split. As with any theories such as mine, my thoughts are subject to debate by those who have other ideas. I have outlined the bases for my thoughts, but would certainly like to discuss the issue with any others interested in these families.. I have also tried to tie in the Beatty and Johnston families of the Sugar Grove area, Antrim Twp, Franklin Co, PA to the story of John and Samuel Moorhead. Descendents of all three of these families were later found in the PA counties of Westmoreland, Indiana, Armstrong, and/or Allegheny, and other areas. To view my thoughts online, please go to my web page www.paul-n-paul.com. Near the top of the home page, centered, are the words "Two Moorhead Families of Franklin Co., PA" Please click on this link, it will take you to my writeup. I feel our Moorheads immigrated from the Ballymena Estate, Ahoghill Parish, County Antrim, and before that, from the lowland area around Stranaer, Scotland. Again, I would like to discuss my thoughts with others. Please, if interested, read my information. By the way, these thoughts can also apply to certain other Franklin County, PA, immigrant families. Thanks to Gordon Crooks for steering me in what seems to be the right direction. Paul
I am researching the Fickes family of Shippensburg, PA. John and Mary Elizabeth Rudisill Fickes had at least 3 daughters who were baptized/confirmed at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Shippensburg from 1807 to 1810. They had other children later. I believe Mary Elizabeth Rudisill was the daughter of Baltzer and Elizabeth Rudisill (Rudysill, Reutisille) who were the sponsors of the girls' baptisms. I have found a John Fickes in Lurgan, Franklin Co. PA in the 1810 census. This could be the same John Fickes family in Shippensburg. Does anyone have any information about him? There is another John Fickes (b. 1815) in Guilford in 1860, but he is not my John Fickes because mine left PA by 1823. My John Fickes had daughters Leah, Sarah, Elizabeth and Salome. He had a son named John, b. 1815 (but again, not the John in Guilford who was born the same year). He also had sons named Jacob and George who were born in PA, but I don't know which county. George may have been born in Mifflin Co. Is anyone familiar with this family? I am trying to go back further on this line. Any information or suggestions with piecing this family together would be greatly appreciated! Linnea
