    1. [PAFRANKL-L] SHAFFNER obituary lookup request
    2. Sheila Davis
    3. Hello out there -- Is there anyone out there who will be researching in Franklin County newspapers and would be willing to check for an obituary? I just got a death certificate for JACOB SHAFFNER JR., died in Antrim Twsp. June 12, 1909. Buried in Montgomery Brethren Cemetery near Upton. Until today I didn't know his date of death, so couldn't locate obit. Not sure which newspaper. I have found other family references in The Greencastle Press and The Franklin Repository. I'd be glad to compensate someone for this lookup. Thanks in advance. Sheila Davis

I am looking for information on the George Cromers who lived there until 1844 when they moved to Washington County, MD. 3. I am seraching for George LANG/LONG the father of Adam LONG (b. 1768). Adam moved to Rockingham County, VA about 1791. It is possibly that he resided in Franklin County prior to moving to VA. It is possible that Adam had a brother named George, who also moved to VA from PA about 1792. Any help in finding the Adam's parents, siblings, etc. will be appreciated. Also, if anyone has a will index for Franklin County, I will greatly appreciate checking for entries for LANG/LONG. Thank you. Jim Messersmith Rockville, VA

    1. [PAFRANKL-L] Re: basic Franklin county questions also RING & KEMP surname
    2. Bruce Malmat
    3. Hi all, Living out of state, I don't have easy access to records there. Could some of you tell me what is available for the Mercersburg area? (Also Metal, Peters, and Montgomery township) My ancestor, Andrew RING married Nancy WALKER (don't know when, but by 1795). He was briefly in Washington county, MD. His daughter - Elizabeth RING b 1803, married William KEMP (b 1806) somewhere between 1825 and 1830. By 1830, William and Eliza went to Pittsburgh. Are there any published marriage records of that time period, or from the 1790's? I know Penna. didn't keep records, but various churches did. I can order/access things through the mail and FHCs. Is there a genealogical society for the county? Also, are there published burial records? Thanks for any help. I appreciate it. This is one county with which I'm not real familiar - yet! :) >Bonnie (Bonz) >blmalmat@bellsouth.net

    3. Kathy, The Vindicator has an obituary of my GG Grandparents LEWIS AND REBECCA DITCH who died in 1922 and 1921 in Iowa. Also their daughter Anna died in 1899. L & R were from Waynesboro, PA. I think his parents were Jacob and Mary Ditch. I think Jacob's parents were Henry & Elizabeth Ditch. And I think Henry's parents were Henry (d 1783) and Eve Ditch, TEECH, DEUTCH, or TRITSCH. There seem to be many spellings. Do you know the address of the COB mailing list? Thanks for the information. 2. dmdmd
    3. Hi, listers, I just returned from a stopover in Chambersburg this past weekend and was priviliged to visit the genealogical library in the Old Jail. BTW, this is a worthwhile trip for those of you considering a first visit. I am posting to the list in an effort to locate either Gertrude Ward or Kimberly Kaplan, submitters of Genealogy reports of the Mullan and Burgess family, amongst many others. These ladies are mainly researching the Hezekiah Easton line and have done wonderful work on allied lines. At any rate, I am posting in the hopes that either of these ladies are on this list, or that someone knows of them and how one could reach them...I have ties to this line, and I have a bit more information on the aforementioned lines that I would be willing to share if they are interested. Thanks for your time. Donna in KY

    1. [PAFRANKL-L] I've updated my page
    2. Paul H. Calhoun
    3. Greetings, I have updated my "Franklin County (and vicinity) Connections" page http://www.infinet.com/~pcalhoun/franklin by switching from GED2HTML to Generations Grande Suite Internet Tree. Also, I've added quite a few names that I've discovered in the past few weeks. The purpose for this page is to help me keep track of the families that were allied with "MY" LATTA ancestors (Branch 3) and several other LATTA branches which passed through or settled in Westmoreland County PA. These allied families all seem to lead eastward to Franklin County (which was Cumberland Co until 1784 and Lancaster Co until 1750). The documentation on this page is slim-to-none, as I intended it to be a TOOL and not a SOURCE. However, please take a look, and if you spot an ancestor of your own or you can correct or add to my information, please let me know. Best wishes, Paul Calhoun
