Does anybody know any more about her or her family? My Hawk family was from Pleasant Hall in Letterkenny Twp., but this lady was too old at 62 to have born my gg grandfather John S. Hawk, in 1808 and his brother Jacob in 1812. Perhaps she was their grandmother. -- Bill Hawk

    2. Do you have anymore info. on Simon Lidy? Specifically his daughter Catherine. She was married to my GGG Grandfather in 1816. I'm looking for birth and death dates for Catherine. Simon was married before Barbara, does your book list her name? Does it list a middle name for Betsy? I have her as Elizabeth. I know this is a lot to ask but anything would be helpful. 1. [PAFRANKL] MILE MARKER
    2. Donna
    3. Hi Fellow Listers: I normally do not send "jokes" through the list, but this one seems to tie into genealogy somewhat. There is no intention on my behalf to be disrespectful to the Irish... as I am also part-Irish and have ancestors by the name of DALRYMPLE. Enjoy... Donna HELLER ZINN of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA. ****************************** The Mile Marker Three Irishmen, Paddy, Sean and Shamus, were stumbling home late one night and found themselves on the road which led past the old graveyard. "Come have a look over here", says Paddy, "It's Michael O'Grady's grave, God bless his soul, he lived to the ripe old age of 87." "That's nothing", says Sean, "here's one named Patrick O'Toole. It says here that he was 95 when he died." Just then, Shamus yells out, "But here's a fella that died when he was 145 years old!" "What was his name?" asks Paddy. Shamus lights a match to see what else is written on the stone marker, and exclaims, "Miles, from Dublin." =================================================== Get the FunnyMailer FREE in your inbox every day! 1. [PAFRANKL] Closing IOWA Birth Records
    2. Donna
    3. Hello Fellow Listers: I am forwarding this note that was posted on the Snyder Co., PA. List in answer to a posting that I had previously sent about Vital Records being possibly closed to the public. I have had several personal replies since the original was sent, about a week ago. Several were informing me that they thought it was a hoax while others thought the opposite. I have copied and pasted what you will read below. Best Wishes... Donna HELLER ZINN of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA. ************************************** Listers: The question has been raised about Iowa records being closed. If you go to our GenWeb page for Iowa at... http://www.rootsweb.com/~iagenweb/index.htm ...you can read the following information. URGENT! IOWA BIRTH RECORDS TO BE CLOSED The Iowa State Department of Health, Vital Records Division, would like to see all birth records less than 95 years old closed to the public at the county level and have drafted a bill to this effect to be taken up by the legislature. According to Larry Coghlan of the Vital Records Dept., "The proposal is to make birth certificates 95 years old and older available for inspection and copying at the county level. The rest of the birth certificates would require a direct and tangible interest to obtain a copy. It is being proposed because of the identity theft (fraud) that has been taking place throughout the United States." This proposal raises a number of questions: Is it really necessary to close 95 years of records to address this problem? How will moving the records from the county level to the state level make it any more (or less) difficult for people interested in committing fraud? How will they define "direct and tangible interest"? Will state employees have the time and inclination to REALLY search the records for your ancestor, or will they keep the money and say "Not Found!" when the record is not exactly where it should be but just a few lines or pages away? Can they take the time to search for possible misspellings or decipher illegible handwriting? If ISDH gets this passed for birth records will all the other records follow suit? Is this an ill-conceived plan to punish the innocent (genealogists and others who need access to these records) instead of the guilty (those who commit fraud)? We need to ask questions now. If you cherish your right to have all your county records available at your county courthouse, speak up. WRITE. CALL. EMAIL. your county officials, state representatives and Governor Vilsack. If you don't speak up now, it might be too late. I'm afraid it is true. You can follow the links to contact the Honorable Governor Vilsack from the above named GenWeb page. Any help would be appreciated! Bill Rathbun Fairfield, Iowa billrath@kdsi.net

    2. Joan, I am amazed to finally find somebody with a Patton connection! I happen to have a copy of the Bible records of JOHN WHITE (s/o CAPTAIN JOHN WHITE) who m. MARGARET PATTON d/o JAMES PATTON. I also have a Bio on CAPTAIN JOHN WHITE (s/o ANDREW & JEAN WHITE) who d. in the Ligonier Pa. area. In the Bio it mentions that his son John m. MARGARET PATTON & his sons travelled to HANNASTOWN to administer to their fathers lands there. I believe that this is the John White who eventually travelled to INDIANA CO. PA. with my JAMES SIMPSON & James was m. to his sister HANNAH WHITE. John was mentioned in an Indian attack there. Also mentioned at HANNASTOWN were my James Simpson saving a child from the fire & "the White Brothers" running their horses all night so the Indians would think that there were reinforcements arriving. Email me at SSchu22739@aol.com if you would like to trade info. Also if anybody else has info about these families (or would like the info that I have) I would appreciate it! 3. There was a large amusement park located on top of the mountain. One of my distant Shockey cousins tells stories of going there as a young man. One of the stories he tells is about how the railroad came in and moved it all out in the middle of the night. My 5th great grandfather John Christopher Shockey (Johann Christoffel Schacke) owned 1820 acres of the valley south of the mountain. The land was called the 3rd Resurvey of Sarah's Delight. The Mason - Dixon line went right by his house and they tell in their journals of the stay with "Stoffel" Shockey. 2. Edwin Hunter
    3. This is what I sent to the addresses listed: "Dear sir: The current trend among many more advanced states is to make as many public records as possible open to the public. I am very distressed to read that Iowa is considering closing its records to the public! I understand that, for a fee, you will look things up for people, and for $8 (!!!) you will provide copies. Pardon me while I retch. This is absolutely obscene. I realize the inconvenience of having the public browsing through your records... however, you all are there to provide service to the public, not to improve your personal convenience. Please reconsider your idea to close records to the public. Dr. E. T. Hunter
