If you go to the USGS location service at : http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html you can enter State Line in Franklin Co. , find its map coordinates, and get a map that shows its location. It is on the USGS map named Hagerstown. Try it, and see how you make out. Bill
Dear Anna: State Line, PA is in Antrim Township, I believe. I will look up the townships and dates made tonight at home and send it to you tomarrow. That is, if no one has found an online map. I personally don't know of one. Beth Ann Deardorff
Can anyone recommend an online map or listing of Townships in Franklin County? Specifically I am trying to identify the township for Stateline PA. On one map I see this straight south of Greencastle and north of Hagerstown Md, yet there appear to be other STATELINEs in other counties, with is a little confusing. Thanks for any help. Hi, I am descended from this Samuel McCREA through his son John who married Jane PORTER. Below are some notes on the McCREA biographies, since there are several errors in that book: >>From the book: "American Revolutionary Soldiers of Franklin Co. Pennsylvania" > >SAMUEL McCREA > >6th Penna Batt., Col. Wm. Irvine, Capt. Abraham Smith, Private Samuel McCrea >enlisted Feb. 12, 1776, d. Aug. 10, 1776. This is not the same Samuel McCREA who married Elizabeth McCLELLAND. That Samuel McCREA wrote his will on 2 Jan 1777, months after the other one had died. I am not sure who the other Samuel was. It is possible that he was a son of Samuel & Elizabeth. > The above Samuel McCrea left a Will >at Carlisle, Penna. recorded March 25, 1778; he names wife Elizabeth, sons, >Robert, Thomas John, James, William, Isaac, David, a dau. Jean Armstrong, and >daus. Shusana, and Elizabeth. They were of "Entrim" Twp. Elizabeth McCrea d. >1777 was dau. of Robert McClelland and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Ewing. James >Ewing of Hunterdon County, NJ and Robert McClelland were founders of the >Middletown Twp., Presby., Church, now Elwyn, Delaware, Co. Penna. one of the >oldest in that part of the State. Deeds show that Samuel McCrea sold land in >1769 to James Wishard, "on the Waters of Antietam" and Thomas McCrea sold >land in 1775 to John Wishard. The Will of John Wishard, Nov. 1777 at Carlisle >Penna. > Penna. Arch. 5th Ser. Vol. 2, p. 232, 235 This Samuel was a brother of the Robert McCrea who married Agnes (aka Nancy) ALLISON: >ROBERT McCREA > >Private under Capt. Daniel Clapsaddler, Capt. Wm. Long, and Capt. James Young >in 1777-1778-1781. Robert McCrea, son of Samuel, is named in the Will of Wm. >Allison, of Antrim Twp., dated 1777, thus: "Dau. Agnes, wife of Robert >McCrea." Samuel McCREA's son Robert married a woman named Esther, and died in Fayette Co., PA about 1789 without a will. His wife and his son John were administrators of his estate. The Rev. War service record is for Samuel's son Robert. The Robert who married Agnes ALLISON had moved to Alexandria, VA in the early 1770's. Robert McCrea was one of three men appointed to mark out the >boundary lines between Cumberland and Bedford Counties. Robert McCREA, brother of Samuel McCREA was a surveyor, and did many of the surveys of land in Allegheny County, PA around 1770. He was the district surveyor for that area. >In 1793 Robert McCrea >was in Woodford Co. Ky., as witness to a Power of Atty. to Benj. Ramey of >Hamilton Twp., Franklin Co., Penna. > Penna. Arch. 5th Ser. Vol. 6, p. 71, 94, 117, 520, 522, 548. This is a third, possibly unrelated Robert McCREA. Robert, the son of Samuel was already dead at that time, and Robert, the brother of Samuel, had moved to Wilkes Co., GA from Alexandria, VA in 1792. >THOMAS McCREA > >Private under Capt. Daniel Clapsaddler in 1780-1781. He mar. Dec. 20, 1770, >by Rev. John King, Susanna Coil. He appears in Bedford Co. Penna., and gave >service there in militia. He was a son of Samuel McCrea of Franklin Co. >Penna. His Will is recorded at Greensburg, Penna., dated and prob. 1804. He >names wife Susanna, Grandson Thomas Trimble; son-in-law Wm. Trimble. The >Executors & Witnesses were old Franklin Co. men,-Michael and Charles Campbell >and Alexdr. Moorhead. The above information on Thomas is correct. In Cross Creek Graveyard, Washington, Co. >Penna.;William McCrea d. September 3, 1841, aged 85 yrs. Sarah McCrea d. >March 3, 1825, in 49th year. One James McCray left a Will at Erie, Penna., >recorded 1840. John Allen left a Will at Erie, Penna., in which he named >McCreas, Wards, and many others, prob. 1838. > Penna. Arch. 5th Ser. Vol. 6, p. 93, 116. These are unrelated families. William McCREA, son of Samuel, died in Wilkins Twp., Allegheny Co., PA in July 1828 and is buried in the Beulah Church Cemetery there. He had donated the land for the cemetery to the Church. The William in Cross Creek Graveyard may be from an apparently unrelated line of McCREAs from Berks Co., PA. If any one is related to these McCREAs, I would like to hear from them. Ken McCrea Stevens, PA Ken@GermanNames.com
