John ARBUCKLE, one of my ancestors, lived in what was at that time Lack Twp., Cumberland County. The area is now in Juniata County, and is now probably in Tuscarora Twp. His land was on the banks of Tuscarora Creek. The William ARBUCKLE named to view the road was his father. The warrant for William ARBUCKLE's land is dated 5 Feb 1755 and is described as "one hundred acres of land adjoining Thomas WOODS and Jacob PYAT on Tuscorora [sic] Creek". The land was not surveyed until 1789. At the time of the survey the adjoining properties belonged to William NEELY, John WRIGHT, and James HARVEY. <snip> >to MR PATTERSON or KEPPLERS which road viewed and laid out as aforesaid the >said persons viz Wm Arbuckel [sic], John Ron(?), Wm Graham, Robert Hogg, David >Beale & Hugh Quigley... <snip> I hope this helps. 1. [PAFRANKL] David Miller
    2. Arthur Miller
    3. Looking for any connections to David MILLER who is reported to have been in Franklin Co., Pa. by 1779 when his first son was born (maybe Frederick). David was supposedly born 1744 in New Jersey. A grandson named Samuel was born 1819 in Franklin Co. A daughter of John Foll (maybe Susan b. 1785) married one of David's sons. I find a David Miller on Guilford Twp. tax list for 1779 but not thereafter. In LDS Ancestral File I find a David Miller b. 1744 in Rahway Twp., Middlesex Co., NJ s/o David and Sarah Miller. I am trying to determine is this David Miller could be my ggggrandfather who came to Nelson Co., Ky. about 1796 with wife Deborah Zook, d/o Peter Zug, and several of their 12 children. He probably ended up in Washington/Fayette Co., Pa. before coming to Ky. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can shed any light on this mystery. Art Miller, Lousiville

    1. [PAFRANKL] 1774 Road Record
    2. Charles Piatt
    3. This post is being sent to the Cumberland Co PA, Franklin Co PA, and Piatt surname lists. The following road record was found three or four years ago by a fellow researcher interested in the two men named Jacob Piatt/Pyatt who were in the Path Valley and/or Burnt Cabins area from the time of the eviction of the squatters by the PA militia to about 1775. Reference for the record is Cumberland Co Road Records, Volume 1, page 32, County Clerk's Office, Carlisle. The road runs north and east consistantly and therefore I will leave out the direction, degrees, and perches in the interest of readability. It is believed that the road was laid out from the narrows at Concord northeast to the Juniata, being approximately what is now PA Route 75. The beginning point is in question and centers on the location of the residence of John Fleming. If any of the residences listed in 1774 could be identified and located by today's landmarks, it would be a great help in understanding this record. Information and comments would be welcome. ***** April session 1774, Public Road from John Fleming's to Mr Patterson's, now Kepler's in Juniatta [sic]: The persons appointed at last January Sessions to view and lay out a road ....[1 word unclear] leading from John Fleming's to Mr Patterson's now Keppler [sic] on the Juniatta have returned to this court the said road as viewed and laid out by them according to the following courses and distances, viz Beginning at FLEMING'S north... to PYAT'S, thence north... to JOHN ARBUCKLE'S, thence north... to GEORGE MCCONNELLS, thence north... to JOHN MCINTIRE'S field, thence north... to WILLIAM MORRISON'S, thence north... to DAVID BEAL'S mill, thence north to MILLIGAN, thence north... to JOHN HER'S(?) run, thence north... to JAS CHURCH'S or JAS CHARTIER'S run, thence north... to CROZIER'S run, thence north... to RUNION'S(?), thence north... to SOLOMON BU...FIELD, thence north... to MR PATTERSON or KEPPLERS which road viewed and laid out as aforesaid the said persons viz Wm Arbuckel [sic], John Ron(?), Wm Graham, Robert Hogg, David Beale & Hugh Quigley now returned to the court as a road highly necessary and of public utility and is laid out in a manner the least injurious to private property, which said road being taken into consideration is accordingly approved of and confirmed by the court, and it is further ordered by the court that the said road laid out as aforesaid be cut, cleaned and bridged and if necessary by the several Supervisors of the townships through which said road passes of the breadth of thirty three feet wide. 2. Anna LeBlanc
    3. For Shirley, who wanted to know the township for State Line too. Everyone agrees that it is in Antrim Township. My thanks to all the kind people who contributed this information. Now, round two. I went to my local Family History Center today and went through the census for Antrim Township in 1860. There was no mention of State Line. The only location in Antrim Township was "Post Office: Greencastle." I did a search using Google search engine on State Line PA and found a tour of civil war sites. Among other things it said: Greencastle to State Line, Pa. Continue south on U.S. 11 for 5 miles south of Greencastle to State Line, Pa. So they really are different spots. Again, Thanks to all who helped out. Anna

    2. Robert/Candice Dahlstet
    3. I hope someone out there will be able to help me - I have really hit a brick wall. I'm pretty sure I found my ggrandfather in Franklin Co. in 1850. On the 1850 census, William Heffelfinger (Hefflefinger) is listed as 2 years old, living with Catherine Stouffer, age 70. The township looks like Greene. In the 1860 census, he is listed as living with the family of Christian Stouffer, age 40. I have been unable to locate a birthdate, (except on the census - June 1848), or a death date. My grandmother was born in California in 1878. Before William Heffelfinger was married to my great grandmother, he was married to Hannah Fowler. If you have any ideas of how to find information about his parents, or connection with the Stouffers, I would really be happy. Thanks very much for any information or advice. Candice
