Can anyone tell me where the Wallace Hotel was located in Chambersburg? Thanks. Terry Shade shades@pa.net
Greetings, Listers: Next week I plan to make (another) visit to Franklin County to research the BOHN family name and grandmothers who married into the lines, including PRICE, STOUFFER, and STRICKLER. I need some information, if anyone is willing to share: 1. Where is Price Meetinghouse in Waynesboro? Is there still a cemetery there? (I will be coming north from Hagerstown, MD). 2. Where is Clayhill, Lancaster County? 3. Where is Cedar Hill Cemetery? And--of course, I'm willing to exchange information. My direct lines include those from Abraham STOUFFER (1746/47-1809) and Barbara HERSHEY (1750-1795), both buried in Stoufferstown Burial Grounds, Chambersburg John STOUFFER (son of above, 1787-1867) and Hannah PRICE (1789-1863), both buried in Falling spring German Baptist Cemetery, outside of Chambersburg Jacob PRICE (father of above-mentioned Hannah, 1765-1839, buried where?) and Susana BAKER (1769-1845, buried in Stoufferstown Burial Grounds, Chambersburg) Johann Valentine BOHN (1759-1814, d. in Greencastle?, Franklin County) and Catharine HOLLINGER (1761 - 1825 in Greencastle?, Franklin County) Valentine BOHN (son of the above, 1783- 1854) and Barbara STRICKLER (1796 - 1837) Adam BOHN (son of the above, 1817 in Greencastle - 1881) and Hannah Stouffer EMMERT (granddaughter of John STOUFFER and Hannah PRICE, mentioned above, 1834-1898) Thanks Lois in Maryland Lois Kleinhenn Lanier Listowner: Bohn, Kleinhenn, Lanier, Sisler Genealogy Discussion Lists Hosted by Rootsweb <http://www.rootsweb.com> Ask me for information on the year 2000 publication of "The Lanier Family in the United States: A Genealogical Compilation of the Descendants of the Immigrant Brothers John and Robert Lanier, Vol. 1: John (son of John the immigrant) and Elizabeth Bird Lanier"

First, I apologize because a lot of you will receive more than one copy of this note, because we are on the same lists, (and I always hate that too) However, after a barrage of pornographic email, we have no choice but to change our email address and block all mail coming from AOL addresses. This means that anyone on any other service, other than AOL, can still use: < db12251@aol.com > for contacting us. Those who are on AOL, will not get through, and should update our email addy to: < L3604B401 > Hoping that this will put a stop to the problem, but will not cause us to lose contact with anyone. Can anyone tell me how to get to this cemetery
Good afternoon. I've recently started searching out my family history. I know my immediate family, grandparents and such, come from the Chambersburg area. I don't really have a whole lot of information on where to start, or how to do a family search, but am hoping that I can get some information from those of you who have already done the work, and are willing to share how to do it. I know that my grandfather is Clyde Lindy Spidel, and my grandmother is Margaret Elizabeth Swisher Spidel, both from the Chambersburg area. If anyone can give me pointers on where to go from here, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance Kellie L. deChamplain

Thanks to Jim Hoke for posting the Bible pages--such valuable information. About two years since Mr. B. was attacked with erysiplis, necessitating the amputation of a leg; from the effects of which he never fully recovered, and which terminated his life as above stated. – His age was 64 years, 8 months and 9 days. Suicide. – On Wednesday morning last the lifeless body of Charles Miller was found hanging in the horse stable on the premises of Mr. Jacob Hawbaker, in the "Corner," some four or five miles Southwest of this place. The deceased was for some years subject to fits which attacked him quite frequently – and it is the presumption that they had such an effect upon his mind as to produce insanity, in which condition he proceeded to put a termination to his life. He was in this place on the afternoon previous, remaining until some time after dark, when he proceeded to the above named place, and ascending a permanent ladder which had been built for the purpose of getting on the mow, he took a stout rope which he had provided for the occasion, and fastened it securely to the timbers above; then descending the ladder to within a few feet of the ground he looped the other end around his neck and stepped off the ladder. When found his feet was [sic] some two feet from the ground. He was discovered on Wednesday morning by a young son of Mr. Hawbaker's [sic] who quickly gave the alarm. F.C. Waidlich, Esq., of this place, was notified, who acting in the capacity of a Coroner, summoned a jury, and proceeding to the place, held an inquest on the remains of the unfortunate man, who rendered a verdict in accordance with the above facts. He was about 33 years of age, and was unmarried. Deceased. – John Huston Work died at his residence, a few miles Southwest of this place, on the 1st instant. The deceased was a member of Company C, 126th Regt. Pa. Vols., which was recruited at this place in 1862, and was wounded in the shoulder, in December of that year, in the engagement at Fredericksburg, Va., in which the command participated. A short time previous to his death the wound commenced to give him fresh trouble, and eventually it resulted in his death as above stated. He was well known and highly esteemed, and his untimely demise is one of deep regret. He was interred in Fairview Cemetery, at this place, on Monday afternoon of last week, and notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather on that day was followed thence by a large concourse of relative and friends, among which was an escort of about forty of his late comrades in arms. He was in the 38th year of his age. Requiescat in pace. [Because Fairview Cemetery is in Mercersburg, "at this place" refers to Mercersburg in this article and probably in most of the other ones from the Karper envelope.] Died. – On Sunday afternoon, April 20th, in Lebanon, Pa., Thomas Frantz, only son of Thomas S. and Lydia Walmer, aged 3 years, 6 months and 8 days. Our darling boy, – so bless'd to us, So beauteous in our sight; To holy realms transplanted is – In cherub vestments bright. We miss thee in our earthly home, Departed household joy, Our eyes bewail where'er we go, With tears our lovely boy. We list upon the stairs to hear, The patter of thy feet; Yet know and feel that never here, That lov'd lost one we'll meet. That we may meet thee, angel one, With Him whose grace sustains, May join thee in that heavenly home, This prayer to us remains. MARRIAGES. North–Deibert – On the 28th ult., by Rev. I.G. Hello to all, I'm searching for the grave of my gggggrandfather, Joseph Armstrong, of Franklin County, PA. (1711-1761). His wife was Jennet Stewart, and they had five sons and two daughters; John, Thomas, Joseph, James, William, Catherine and Margaret. Joseph, Sr., emigrated from Ireland to PA in 1731 and was instrumental in helping to settle the Chambersburg area. He and his sons were all military men and Joseph was a first cousin to General John Armstrong of Kittaning fame. His son, Joseph, is buried in the Rocky Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, near the Letterkenny Depot. The Joseph Armstrong farm is well-marked with a roadside plaque placed by the Chambersburg Historical Society of PA, just east of Edenville on the Chambersburg-Edenville Road. We have searched for many years trying to locate his burial place, but without success. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sally Armstrong Crown

I've come across a number of obituaries recently which I suspect are from the Mercersburg Journal in the 1870s and 1880s. They often refer to the location "The Corner". Does anyone know where this is? From the context it appears to be about 4 miles south or southwest of Mercersburg in Montgomery Township. Any thoughts would be appreciated, Jim Hoke Alexandria, VA
