    2. I am looking for any information on a "Polly" Jones, daughter of John A. Jones, Sr. and Elizabeth Unknown. About all I know about her is that she married a MILLER and she was alive in 1840 when her father died. Anything greatly appreciated. Mike

    1. [PAFRANKL] MILLER in Franklin Co.
    2. I have a MILLER from Chambersburg PA. I cannot locate his parents. Andrew Jackson MILLER born Dec. 14, 1826. He apprenticed as a carpenter in York, and moved to Savannah GA in 1851. He married Elizabeth FORSCHT from York PA. Andrew had one brother that I know of: Samuel S. MILLER who was born in 1822, and lists York as his birthplace. He went to Savannah abt 1847. Are they connected to your MILLERs? Thank you, Susan Marshall EAlt117@aol.com

    3. Linda, All I know of my McDougal line is the following. Do you know of the below John McDougal born abt. 1832 Mercersburg PA. probably the son of a William McDougal of Franklin County PA.? Below is a genealogy report on him that lists all I know about him in the notes section. He died while visiting Columbus OH. The only ties I know he had in Columbus is in 1870 thru about 1872 or 73 he was in the Penitentiary there serving time for stealing. The crime happend in Monroe County OH. where he at one time resided near or in Camron. I know he is connected to these McDougals in Monroe County, OH., but have not been able to find out how. Pension papers say he was born in Mercersburg PA. See below. Thanks, I will try to help more later but will wait first for your comments and questions. Yours sincerely, Steve Pearson Descendants of John McDougal Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 MCDOUGAL was born Abt. 1832 in PA. or WV., and died January 15, 1881 in Franklin Co., OH.. He married (1) MARY JANE ANDREWS 1856. She was born Unknown. He married (2) NANCY JANE BAKER Bet. 1875 - 1879 in OH., daughter of HENRY BAKER and MARY MUNCH. She was born March 07, 1849 in Anna, Auglaze Co., OH., and died October 04, 1938 in Paulding, Paulding Co., OH.. Notes for JOHN MCDOUGAL: Source: Don Bird, my grandfather Ernest and grand uncle Charles Pearson. Also to note: Shirley (McDougal) Neiswonger probably is descended from the same McDougal line as John. This is speculated due to the fact that John resided in Monroe Co., Ohio and was a Blacksmith. All the McDougals of Monroe Co. were related and the trade of Blacksmith was common among them. Shirley states her feelings regarding John's possible ancestry; " ...If your John McDougal is the son of William McDougal that was born in Scotland in 1807. This William did not come to US until sometime in the 1820s...." and "...I still believe your John is the son of William that stayed in PA. while the rest of the family came to Monroe Co...." Time Line of the life of John McDougal 1831, 32 or 33 - Birth of John in Mercersberg, Franklin Co., PA. 1856 - Oct. 12th, marriage to Mary Jane Andrews of Cameron, Monroe Co., OH. 1861 - June 6th , enlisted in the Union Army at Sistersville, VA. June 19th, mustered in as a private, Co. E, 2nd W.V. Infantry. 1862 - States about June 6th, while at Port Republic VA, he contracted rheumatism, from lying out in damp cold weather. Affecting both his arms and right hip. July 7th, admitted to Ft. McHenry Hospital in MD. for Rheumatism. August 23rd, Examined by a Doctor and declared unable to perform duties of a Soldier. Sept 6th, Certificate of disability given and he was discharged from the Service. 1863 - Re-enlisted into the service as a sergeant Co. G, 4th W.V. Cav. At Hannibal Ohio on July 21st to serve six months. August 29th was mustered into Service, was stated as 31 years old. Company muster rolls from enrollment (July) to Oct 31st, he is listed as "present." Sept 25th, "absent" with remarks, " At Woodsfield OH. Recruiting for the Reg't, to return Oct 12th. " Company Muster rolls from Nov. and Dec. not stated as "present" or "absent." 1864 - March 8th , Muster out roll of company lists him as a "deserter" June 22nd , was arrested in Rochester, PA., near Pittsburgh by Wm. R. King. June 24th , was held in a military prison, known as "Atheneum" prison, in Wheeling, W.V. July 21st , was released from prison and discharged from the Service by order of Military Commander. Statement was, "The term of his service having expired" Residence stated as Parkersburg VA. ( Note: this is where he was during the first couple months of his second term in the service.) One of his known children with Mary Jane Andrews was named Hannah J. McDougal, who was born sometime during this year. 1869 - January 24th , 11PM, John commits breaking and entering as well as stealing items from a storehouse in Cameron Ohio that belonged to a Thomas Taylor. Feb. 16th , Indictment filed in Court at Woodsfield Ohio for Burglary and Larceny against John McDougal . Evidently John had an accomplice named "Frank Cooke, otherwise known as Frank Spoonover, (Skoonover?) late of the county of Monroe. .." Does this term "late" refer to him having been killed or died sometime between the robbery and indictment? John was convicted and sentenced to three years of imprisonment in the State Penitentiary and "kept at hard labor". His term then would have started February of 1869. Don't know how long it actually lasted. 1870 - Should be able to find him in the Census for the State Penitentiary of Ohio. This I intend to check on. 1871 - Nov. 12th or 13th , filed a Declaration for Invalid Pension, possibly from Prison? Indicates residence as Monroe County Ohio, and that he was 40 years old. No indication of who wife was. 1873 - July 9th , admitted to the National Military Home in Dayton Ohio. Diagnosis, rheumatism. Age listed at 41. 1874 - Feb. 16th , Filed another declaration for pension, stated age 42, resident of the National Military Home in Dayton OH., was a Blacksmith by trade. June 8th , Letter sent from the Nat. Military Home to the Commissioner of Pensions to forward all mail in regards to John McDougal who reside in Cameron, Monroe Co., OH. June 30th , Another declaration for pension filed, stated residence Monroe County OH., 42 years old, wife was Mary Jane Andrews, married on the 12th of Oct 1856. Says he got Rheumatism at Strawsberg VA. about the 12th of June 1862. 1875 - Oct. 12th , John wrote a letter to a Mr. Baker asking for his help in obtaining a pension. Dec 21st , John wrote a second letter to the same Mr. Baker, again asking for help. (See interpretations of both letters) 1879 - July 29th , Birth of Cora Belle McDougal in Shelby County, OH. Mother on certificate is Nancy Jane Baker. 1880 - John and Nancy "Jane" (Baker) McDougal are found living in Sidney, Clinton Twp., Shelby County, OH. Roll 1066, 1880 Census. The Military Home Historian said that many of the residents did and were able to take "leave of absence" from the hospital, and this was probably one of John's, perhaps visiting to spend time with his new daughter Cora. Interesting to note that John is listed as a "laborer" in the occupations section. The attitude may have been, "It's none of the census takers business that I am an invalid" - just some speculation on my part. Interesting to note that the 1880 Census states John's father and mother to have been born in Scotland, which supports Shirley's theory stated in the first part above. A conflict though arises in that the 1880 census also shows John to have been born in Ohio, whereas he states in his pension papers that he was born in Mercersburg PA. 1881 - January 15th , John died in Franklin Co., OH. Records indicate that he was not buried in the National Military Home's cemetery. Steve Pearson 401 Crescent Dr. Mt. Pleasant, MI. 48858 517-775-3548 Child of JOHN MCDOUGAL and NANCY BAKER is: 2. i. Patrick McCormick is in their Patriot's Index. He is referenced in the PA Archives "V" Series Vol. 6 page 284 on the Roll of the 7th PA Line for the Cumberland Militia commanded by Samuel Colbertson. A DAR application seems to have identified a daughter Margaret. I only glanced at the applications. I scibbled some quick notes. I may have got these wrong. David Findley (1793/4-9/22/1866) married Margaret McCormick (1796/7-11/2/1864) Their son ? David Findley (6/23/1829-1919) married Mary Ann McFeathers (5/7/1837-11/28/1889) married on 5/4/1854 Does anyone have any light to shed on these relationships? - Kevin Campbell (kevincamp@aol.com) PS - Here is some additional info on Patrick from The Annals of Franklin County give the following additional McCormick history (p54. "Forbes Road", DAR Library) The McCormick land belonged to the Allen Brown warrant of 1765 although there were settlers on different parts of this Brown land in 1754 or 1755. The houses now on present Route 75 on the McCormick-Gorman lands were not built until approximately fifty tears after the old places on the Old Road. The McCormick family was in Path Valley pretty early although the earlier McCormick land was "up" the Valley. Patrick McCormick served under Capt. Thomas McDowell in 1780. Robert McCormick served under Capt. McDowell also under Capt. Noah Abraham in 1780. "Mike" McCormick was working in Mt. Pleasant Furnace in 1812-1814. The Old Road passed through and near the McCormick land for a long distance.
