    1. [PAFRANKL] Looking for Mennonite records
    2. I've been trying to find the marriage record for my ancestors. They were Mennonites and after their marriage they lived in Upper Strasburg. Their names are Susan Gsell and John High. I believe they were married in 1859-1860. I am also interested in learning of any other High marriages, births, or burials in that area. Thank you for any and all help, Krista

    1. [PAFRANKL] Ellem family/Letterkenny Township
    2. I am searching for information about the Ellem family in Letterkenny Township, Franklin Co. In the 1860 census there were listed: Lydia, age 43, Margaret, age 17, Rebecca, age 14, and Mary, age 12. I think the name was later shortened to Elm. If that is the case, then Rebecca could be my great great grandmother, married to Enos Reifsnyder in 1867. If you have any information on the Reifsnyder or Ellem surname, please e-mail me. Thank you.

Daniel Hepper is listed as one of the early Sunday School Superintendents at the Lutheran Church. On p. 604, H. L. Hepfer is listed as a member of Stevens Post No. 317 of the G.A. R. On p. 529 W. J. Hepfor is listed in the Sons of the Veterans of the United States Army as picket guard, and on p. 352, Peter S. Hepper is listed as Commissary Sgt. of Co. L of 182nd Regt, 21st Cavalry. According to the "Franklin County Cemetery Locator", by James Houpt, Jr. the present Grindstone Hill Cemetery is also called Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. There are eleven named Revolutionary war soldiers buried there; Among the names are Cook, Hassler, Herman, Keller, Leap, Smith, Snider and Walburn. You should contact the Kittochtinny Historical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~pakhs/ to find out about church records. Hope this is of some help, Bill Hawk

    3. Dear Jean, Yes there is an extensive Coble family history, compiled some years ago. Ethel Coble Picking of Chambersburg published a booklet on them in 1966. I hope someday to find enough descendants to bring it up to date! I just checked the part I have onto my computer so far, and could not find your Abraham. The only Abraham Coble I had listed died in infancy in 1857, son of George D. and Charlotte Brake Coble of St. Thomas. Do you know what part of Franklin County your Abraham was inÂ… where his first children were born? I'm sure the Guilford Twp. and the St. Thomas Twp. Coble's were all related. We have their Coble ancestry traced back to about 1650 in Germany. Jacob Kobel, son of Johann Georg Kobel, emigrated in 1710. I have records on many more Kobel's in Germany that are probably related also, but I have not researched them to sort them all out - yet. Hope some of this helps, Carolyn Cell Choppin PAFRANKL-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > PAFRANKL-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 190 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [PAFRANKL] COBLE, Abraham 1790-186 [JEANFAZZ@aol.com] > #2 [PAFRANKL] probate packets - still [CWorstell@aol.com] > #3 [PAFRANKL] probate packets - still ["Carolyn K. 3. Donna, I don't remember the name of the Hist Soc there but be sure not to miss the public library. They have a room just for local history and genealogy called-I think-the Pennsyvania Room- which is a gem. Not only is the collection outstanding but thay have(or had) a volunteer librarian who must have descended from half of the families that ever lived there. Enos served in the civil war (PA volunteers regiment 107, Co. B). He enlisted in Shippensburg. He is the father of my great grandmother, Flora Alice, born in Orrstown, Franklin Co. on 5/18/1868. After the war he moved to Renovo, Pa to work for the railroad. I would love to find a record of his parents. Thank you.

    1. [PAFRANKL] probate packets - still exist??
    2. Carolyn K. Shearer
    3. Most of the probate packages for this time period still exist. They are available on microfiche at the courthouse in Chambersburg. Sometimes they are too faded to be read, so a clerk will go to the basement and pull the original package for you. The ones I have found have very seldom been complete - there will be an inventory, but no sale bill or vice versa. I was working on my ancestor Daniel Reisher last week - the distribution of the estate doesn't match the terms of the will. The only way that I could account for this is papers missing from the probate package. I have not had much luck ordering by mail. Like most courthouses they are very busy, never seem to get around to answering letters. Maybe someone else has had better luck with this. Cost when you copy yourself from the microfiche is 50 cents per page.
