I was down to the Ft. Loudon Cemeteries last weekend. The one cemetery is in very poor condition. About 60% of the stones cannot be read. and allot of stones are broken off. I could not find your Mowrey. I also looked in cemetery books in the Historial Society in Chambersburg and did not seem him listed, The books were written in the 1980's, so his stone may be gone by now. In the book-- FORT LOUDON SIDELIGHTS written by Harry F. Foreman, 1970, on page 28 in states Mowra (Mowery) The John Mowra land was connected with the James Smith land. Jacob Mower sold some of the land to John Beaver. Judy
Hello Fellow Listers: I just wanted to let you all know that The Perry Historians, a genealogical society located near New Bloomfield, Perry Co., PA. has recently published, printed and has for purchase a paperback book named: Geburts und Taufscheine: Illuminated Pennsylvania German Birth and Baptismal Certificates This is actually Volume 20-23 of The Perry Review. This is a publication that persons who were members of the Perry Historians during the years of 1995-1998 get as one of their membership privileges. Every year they try to have a volume of The Perry Review printed as a membership privilege for the members of that year. This volume happened to become more of an endeavor than what was thought and Harry Focht, the author continued to gather more and more taufschein information [actually 1445 translated taufscheins] and so, it took several years to actually finalize it. The taufscheins are from many counties in Pennsylvania, including Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union, York Counties. It is a wonderfully done book, containing 262 pages [index included] with both color - and - black and white photo copies of taufscheins. The cost is around $26.00 for members of The Perry Historians and around $30.00 for non-members [I don't have a pricelist in front of me at present]. If interested, you can contact The Perry Historians at their mailing address listed below - or - you can e-mail me personally at djzinn@pa.net The Perry Historians PO Box 73 Newport PA 17074 My apologies for advertising on the Rootsweb, but this is a wonderful additional resource for anyone doing genealogical research. Best Wishes.... Donna HELLER ZINN of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA. Volunteer / Director of The Perry Historians

Hi, I am looking for information on my third great grandfather, Peter Cushard. I would like to find his siblings and parents. I know he was born abt. 1800 in the Chambersburg area, and had a brother Henry born abt 1799 in the same area. He and his brother moved out of Franklin County in the 1830's to the Morrison's Cove area of Blair County. There they married and had several children. Peter was married to a Mary Horner, born about 1803. They had several children including my second great grandfather, Henry Cushard. After the Civil War, Peter, Henry and family settled in Phillipsburg, Centre County. There, Peter died on 7 Jan. 1889. I don't know when his wife died. I must think there are Cushards buried in the Chambersburg area cemeteries, and some information could be found. The only census information in the Chambersburg area is the 1850, and has an Elizabeth Cushard living by herself in the town. It is possible she is a relative, she was 63 years in 1850. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Warren
Benjamin is a very popular name in the Chambers family. Here is what I could find in Seilhammer's county history. Benjamin Chambers (4 Jan 1764 Chambersburg-27 Aug 1850 Saline County, MO) was the only son of James Chambers (5 Jun 1743 Falling Spring-25 Apr 1805 Loudon Forge, Franklin County, PA) and Katherine Hamilton (1737 County Tyrone, Ireland- 14 Jan 1820 Ludlow Station, now Cincinnati, OH). Benjamin married (1) Ruth McPherrin 27 Dec 1796. She was the daughter of Rev Thomas McPherrin of the Welsh Run Church. According to Virginia Fendrick, historian for the Franklin County chapter of the NSDAR, this Benjamin had only two children by his first marriage, one who died in infancy and the second 'was said to have lived in California.' Benjamin was one of the first surveyors of southeastern Indiana and the proprietor of Lawrenceburg after the failure of Vance. He moved to Missouri about 1820 where he lived the rest of his life. While living near Cincinnati he married 22 Jul 1801, Sarah Lawson Kemper (1780-22 Dec 1836) daughter of Rev James and Judith (Hathaway) Kemper. They had eleven children: 1. Ruth (1802-1814) 2. James Kemper (1804-1821) 3. Israel Ludlow (1806-1807) 4. Sarah Bella (1807-1867) married Dr. George Penn 5. Joseph (b and d 1810) 6. George Washington (1811-1829) 7. Benjamin (1813-1814) 8. Catherine Judith (b1815) married John Cockrill Pulliam 9. Susanna Mary (1816-1822) 10. Ludlow (1819-1852) no issue 11. John Hamilton (1821-1877) moved to California Lots more on the Chambers family in Seilhammer's history, pages 1-18. Sorry, but I can not make copies, my book is very fragile. I will send a text file of wills etc to anyone who can read Word 97. Carolyn -----Original Message----- From: K. A little more to understand this interesting item: [Included the next one just because it was interesting...] BEATTY, SAML., Ensign, 2 Regt. U.P.L., Letter purporting to be the last will, "Miami River, fifty miles from its mouth." September 24, 1791. Letters February 11, 1794. Commission with Mr. Wilky (Wilkins), merchant, in Pittsburgh, now in Fort Washington. Mr. Brotherton. Major Butler. Mother. Joseph. Wit.: Alexander Power and James Beatty. Admin.: Alexander Power and James Beatty. The Dec'd was killed at Saint Mary's in the defeat of Genl. St. Clair, by the Indians, November 4, 1791. E. 316. Fort Washington is now Cincinnati, OH and the Miami River (now the Great Miami as there is also a "Little Miami R.) extends north from the Ohio River to Dayton and on northwest. Arthur St. Claire had a lot of trouble as an Indian fighter and his defeat(s) called for the campaigns of General Anthony Wayne which eventually ended in the defeat of Tecumseh and the Shawnee at Fallen Timbers and settled the Northwest Territory at the Treaty of Greeneville, (OH). More information can probably be found on Samuel and James Beatty in material associated with this campaign.
Donna, I have the listing in Price's Cem. for Michael Clem, d. 30 Sep 1899. It also has a GAR marker. A check of the Civil War Pension records would possibly give some information. Also buried in Price's is a Mary Clem, (suspect she is Michael's wife, but there is no indication) b. 20 May 1832 d. 23 Oct 1873. There are two sons listed: Calvin S., b. 21 Mar 1870 d. 3 May 1870 and Charles W., b. 17 Jan 1858 d. 8 May 1892. Found an obit for Michael: Said he was raised in Quincy Twp., Franklin, PA. Died at home of his son Andrew Dill Clem. Aged 68y-4m-20d. Died 30 Sep 1899, buried 2 Oct 1899 at Price's Church. Was a member of the Mormon Church. Leaves one son, Andrew Dill Clem and 6 daughters. Mrs. Schailer and Mrs. Hill, live in the west; Mrs. C.C. Thompson, Mrs. John Micener, Mrs. David Freeman and Mrs. Ambrose Rock, live in Quincy Twp.; Mrs. Frank Talhelm, lives in Waynesboro, Franklin, Pa. Found obit for Mary: Only said that she died 23 Oct 1873, aged 41y-5m-3d. Nothing else mentioned. Doesn't look like this is the father of Jacob A. The dates do indicate that Michael may possibly be a brother. In the History of Franklin Co., Pa 1887, there is mention of Rev. Jacob Price as one of the ministers of the German Baptist Church in Waynesboro, Franklin, Pa. There are some other Waynesboro Price families mentioned but none with your Jacob. There is a page on a Price family of Quincy Twp., in the Biographical Annals of Franklin Co., Pa, but no mention of a Rev. Jacob. There is a Jacob, b. 1804 and Susan Emmert Price, a J. Stover and Maud Funck Price mentioned. No mention of a Rev. Jacob A. Didn't help much, but did answer one of your questions. Wayne Mower
Hi Donna: Had we spoke before????? I'm currently doing research for someone who is also a great-grandson to Rev. Jacob A. CLEMM. Yes the church is Brethren! I believe it is also still in use. I don't know where the records are but would also like to know!!! The church and cemetery are just outside of Waynesboro, Franklin Co., PA. on [if memory serves me correctly] Rt. 316. I have found that Jacob A. CLEMM's father was Michael CLEMM Sr. - who was also the father of Michael Christian CLEMM Jr. buried at Price's Church Cemetery. How are you related????? Have you ever contacted Howard CLEMM of Dauphin????? He's the one I'm doing the research for. Jacob A. CLEMM was not initially buried in Price's Cemetery but in Young's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carroll Twp., Perry Co., PA. where his young son was buried. Hello, I'm looking for information on Benjamin Chambers and Ruth McPheirin. They were married December 22, 1796, according to the records of Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church, MERCERSBURG, FRANKLIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA John King, D.D. Did they have a son born in 1799 named Benjamin? When did Ruth die? Did the both Benjamins leave Pennsylvania in 1818 for Knox County Ohio? My ggg-grandfather and gggg-grandfather, both named Benjamin Chambers, came in Knox County Ohio in 1818. Family stories say they came from Chambersburg PA. I doubt that, but thought perhaps they came from another town near Chambersburg. Thanks for any thing you can provide. Kathy Gamble
There is no mention of Jacob North in the everyname index to Franklin County wills 1784-1826. Nor in Pennsylvania Wills 1682-1834. by Broderbund I did find this will which may be a clue: Cumberland County Wills:(Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834) JORDAN, FRANCIS, farmer, Juniata. April 14, 1804. November 26, 1804. Wife Catherine. Sons Amos and John. Dau. Elizabeth North. Son Jeremiah Jordan. Exs.: Sons Amos Jordan and John Jordan. Wit.: Abigail North, James Beaty, Isaac Craven. G. 84-85. I was interested in your Tulpehocken to Franklin County migration as I have several families that did the same thing. Went back to check my Tulpehocken records but found nothing on a Jacob North, or any other Norths nor anyone of the surname Buckmyer in four volumes of Berks County Church records. I notice that you mention Lebanon County - checked there also but found nothing. Here is information about Christ Lutheran in Tulpehocken from F. Edward Wright's abstracts: "Church Records: Selected Areas of PA, 1600s-1800s" Berks County Churches XXXII. TULPEHOCKEN (Christ), Marion Township This Lutheran congregation was begun by those members of Reed's church who lost control of the property to the Moravians in 1742 and built their own church a mile away. Tobias Wagner dedicated the new church and began a register in 1743. Glatfelter states that "this is the congregation usually meant when one refers to the Tulpehocken church." [Note: Members of Reed/Reith family that founded this church also migrated to Franklin County. cks] Pastors: Tobias Wagner (1743-1746), Nicholas Kurtz (1746-1770, absent June 1763-June 1764), Emanuel Schultz (1771-1809). Location: Christ Church, 1/2 mile west of Stouchsburg. Records: A translation has been done by Frederick S. Weiser and published by the Pennsylvania German Society as "Records of Pastoral Acts at Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg, Berks County, Pennylvania". There is also a Tulpehocken Church in Lebanon County, but no Norths in the records, and no baptisms between 1762 and 1765. Hope this doesn't discourage you, but at least it is a list of places checked with nothing found. Carolyn, Do you have any info on the JAMES BEATTY on the JORDAN will? I am looking for info on a THOMAS BEATTY who enlisted in the Rev. War c 1775-1779 from Franklin Co., PA. and later moved to Derry Twp., Indiana Co., PA., d 1822. His will leaves to wife MARTHA (LDS says a THOMAS BEATTY m MARTHA THOMPSON in 1775), his niece JANE DEEN (dtr of his sister) and SAMUEL BEATTY, no relation given. Was SAMUEL a son? Did he have other children, possibly a WILLIAM or MARY? Any help would be appreciated. Rosemarie Beatty Researching: Ferguson/Elliott, Davis/Waugh, Beatty/Duffy, Pickel/Straub and Smithson
List members, I am new to this list and am hoping someone can help with a few questions? Where is Price's Cemetery and is it still in use? Is it associated with a Brethren Church? Where are the records archived? My ancestor, Jacob A. Clemm was initially interred in Price's but for some reason, was reinterred in East Harrisburg Cemetery in 1904. He was a circuit rider minister and was married to Percilla Barnes. My information says that a Michael C. Clem, b. 1832, d. 1899, is also buried in Price's. I suspect that Michael is the father of J. A. Clemm but I am not able to document it. Thank you for your help. Donna Beinhaur Coulter Researching: BEINHAUR CLEMM SHELENBARGER WHITMAN
Carolyn, If you wouldn't mind, could look up the names of Maurer, Mowery, Mowrey for a John or Johannes Maurer who died in Loudon about 1827. He was married to a Martha Albert. His son, Daniel Mowery or Mowrey died in 1857 and is buried in Mercersburg. They were probably Lutheran or German Reformed. Thank you for any help you could provide.
