    1. [PAFRANKL] Early Presbyterian Churches/Chambersburg
    2. Carolyn K. Shearer
    3. If your ancestors were married in the Lower Path Valley Presbyterian Church, the chances are very good that they also had their children baptized there. The only other Presbyterian Church in Path Valley was (and still is) at Spring Run. The church and county histories are rather vague on the issue, but apparently there was some early problems between the two churchs. I have noticed that families who belonged to one rarely show up in the records of the other. Outside of Path Valley, there is a Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring in Chambersburg, Rocky Spring northwest of Chambersburg, plus a couple of others. Records for all of these churchs are very scarce. Lower Path Valley, except for the marriages which are incomplete, start at 1851. Even then there are no baptisms. Kittochtinny has a few records for Falling Spring. In Cumberland County, there are a few records for Middle Spring and Big Spring, neither of which are complete. Gail - I have added to my Campbell text file since we last talked. Will send you an updated version if you like. Carolyn

    2. Bill Hawk
    3. Friends and relations, Jane Ellen MELL(1848-1925) m. George K. DUKE, 19 May 1869 at the M.E. Church in Shippensburg. They had three children, George DUKE, Nellie DUKE(m. MILLER) and another girl whose name I do not know(m. SALTSMAN). Nellie was living in Chambersburg in 1925 according to Jane's obit. There was also a grandaughter, Miss Ruth DUKE who was a teacher in the Normal School. Jane Ellen MELL was a sister of my ggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth MELL HAWK. Does anybody out there have a connection, family records etc? I have copies of obits and a letter written by Ruth to a cousin in MA at the time of Jane's death. Also have family record pages from a MELL-HAWK family bible, and memorabilia which was kept between its pages. -- Bill Hawk

    3. Peggy, I've got lots on Catherine EMERICK's husband's ancestors and their WERTZ descendants, and there are others on the Wertz surname Rootsweb list who are interested, too. And do you know about the Wertz website? I'd be interested in some brief information on her siblings. (Actually, this turns out not to be my husband's line, but I did so much research on them that I keep them in my files!) My Greencastle surnames include KUHN, BRUBAKER, HALDEMAN and LEITER. 1. [PAFRANKL] Fraternal Organizations
    2. There is a picture of an ancestor, Michael Clem, 1832-1899, who is wearing a tie tack of a crescent with a star inside the crescent.  Someone has said it is from an organization called, "Grotto."  I also have a black fez that belonged to another Clemm relative that is marked KORAZ 204.  The emblem has a tiger's head in the center, two crescents with stars inside on the left, and completing the circle on the right are the initials, D.O.K.K. I suspect these are somehow affiliated with Shriners, Masons, or something of that nature.  Could any of the list members shed any light on this and where could I get information on past members? Thank you, Donna

Anyone researching RITZ name that may have a connection to Solomon, my gr. gr. gr. grandfather? Need Solomon's parents names or any information that might be of some help. Thank you. 3. I have this in my Shearer file: Franklin County Will Abstracts, Will Book C, p 735. Will of Catherine BOHN, Greencastle, w/w 13 Dec 1824, w/p 17 Feb 1825. Sons: Valentine BOHN, John BOHN; daughter Elizabeth HEGE, wife of Christian HEGE and their children. Exec: Son Valentine. Witnesses: George Shearer and William Bratton. The date fits for it to be your Catherine Hollinger Bohn, but Elizabeth is married to the wrong man! Did a quick search to see how many Catherine Bohns there might be. No other in the Franklin County will abstracts thru 1826. Did find this York County Church Records, Christ Evangelical Lutheran, City of York Rebecca Bohn of Valentine and Catharine, born September 12, 1792, baptized September 28, 1792. Valentine Bohn of Valentine and Catharine, born September 5, 1793, baptized 1793. Adam Bohn of Valentine and Catharine, born November 1, 1795, baptized February 29, 1796. Anna Bohn of Valentine and Catharine, born January 23, 1798, baptized August 15, 1798. Lancaster County Church Records Blaser's Reformed Catharine of John Nicholas Hollinger and Catharine, b.
