    3. Thank you to whoever sent the information of the Upper West Conochegue Church marriages being online. However, it looks like to me they are earlier than I need. Only going to 1816 or so. I need 1848 just before the 1850 census. Thanks again.

    3. Hi PA Rooters! We are planning our second family reunion to be held in the Chambersburg area in July 2001 and would appreciate it if someone in the area could give me the names of any restaurant (good restaurant) that may be able to accommodate up to 100 people for dinner! Last year we ate at the Mountain Gate Restaurant in Waynesboro and it was great - but I thought we might try another place this year. Your suggestions will be appreciated! Janet in Baton Rouge, LA

    2. Judy Vulgamott
    3. I have tried to fine information on the Union Reformed Church in State Line but could not find it in any of my Franklin Co. books. The nay church listed for State Line in the phone book is State Line United Methodist Church. There is an Historical Society in State Line that is fairly new, I have no info on them either though-sorry. Most of the Reformed churches in this area were started by the Germans Guide Edillon wrote: > Can anyone tell me what denomination the Union Reformed Church is? The church is located in State Line, Franklin Co., PA. Is it Lutheran? There is a cemetery located there. > > And would there be any church records showing marriages, baptisms, deaths, burials, etc.? > > Shirley Edillon

    3. I shall try to respond to your suggestions. At 03:16 PM 1/9/01 -0500, you wrote: >To try to answer some of your questions - >1. I am in the process of obtaining CDs from a genealogy service. they cover both Huguenots and United Empire Loyalists. This will be where I start the process for the Laurence/Gordon family. I believe the records you mention above are included in these CDs. >2. You ask about the full dates of birth at LDS. They may have come from >many sources: a Bible record, tombstones, death certificares, even a >pension record or land record such as the one above. Yes. I thought Bible records might be a possibility. I have contacted a submitter of this information. This person is recorded as living in Ecuador. The tombstones in Bookton Cemetery, Windham Township, Ontario, CANADA, have been a source for William Laurence and Elmira Laurence. They, also, give information for William Francis Lawrence, William's son. I am currently checking to determining which Sarah Gordon is the spouse of William Laurence. There are many, and they are in different cemeteries. She does not appear to be at Bookton Cemetery. However, they first started in Upper CANADA at Otterville. There may be a cemetery there that contains her remains. They were Methodists, so I must check Methodist cemeteries. She could have been Presbyterian, since here name is of Scottish origin. I may have to check that later. The pension records of those who fought for the British may contain something for William Laurence. Again, I shall check the CDs, when they arrive. >3. If you do not know, ten I shall have to ask them. They have early land warrants. Did everyone own property in Shady Grove? I am asking on the chance that you will know something. >4. I am curious about how to search for them. I believe Elmira may have died soon after arrival to Upper CANADA. I believe her mother may, also, have died at the childbirth of William Francis Lawrence. The abrupt trip by covered wagon from Shady Grove may have been too much for them. I really appreciate all you great help. Most sincerely, Howard

    3. To try to answer some of your questions - 1. Loyalists during the American Revolution were offered land in Canada after the war by the British government. I have not searched these records personally, but have talked to others that have. There was a form that they had to fill out, indicating their names, ages, loyalty to the English King, etc. The records are worth checking out if you have someone who moved from US to Canada during this time period. 2. You ask about the full dates of birth at LDS. They may have come from many sources: a Bible record, tombstones, death certificares, even a pension record or land record such as the one above. 3. Kittochtinny Historical Society does not have an email address but they do have a website - http://www.rootsweb.com/~pakhs/ . It is a link on the Franklin County site. Their mailing address is (175 East King Street, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17201) is available on their website. 4. The Franklin County Court House does not have email - at least not to answer requests for genealogical records. They also are a link on the Franklin County site. Check under "Franklin County Government near the bottom of the page. 5. The list of records available at the PA State Archives that I gave in a previous message are from the Archives site. I gave it at the end of the list. To repeat: http://www.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Historical_Museum/DAM/rg/rg47m.htm 6. I don't know why the sisters are not buried with the rest of the family. Were they married? If so they are probably buried with their husband's families.
